New to D&D? I didn't know that was possible! I've been playing 43 years, need anything, one of us should be able to help.

I sent you an rmail Sword, it will be highlighted in red at the top of your screen, or blue under private messages here.

Well now, I got my B/X rules a few years ago off EBay. Only now getting down to trying to use them. Had a very brief game of AD&D last century, then 4th edition ...

Nooby/Sword, welcome to the game and to D&D in general.  It shouldn't be too difficult to find pdfs of the D&D basic and Expert rulebooks if you want to.  I'd long ago given up D&D for Advanced D&D (long ago name change referencing a long ago political and monetary fight among the game designers) but was still able to find pdfs for this game.

Depending on what rpg systems you're used to, you might find that D&D is pretty open ended, relying on the DM to make sense of player actions with very little hard and fast guidance from the rules.  That said, it's easy for a nooby as the DM has a lot of latitude to translate what you want your character to do into what the rules can work with.

Sword:
generally my characters arent me specifically, maybe at most some of my experiences

Same, same!  A lot of mine, like Anneth, that have showed up in other games, were built around Ability Score rolls.  Or, even Dungeon Master spell selections or secondary skills!

My sister found my B/Ex hard copies at a used book store.  I paid her back with the 5th Edition Core Rulebooks!  The rest of my collection was either found at used book stores, SOMETIMES bought from big box retailers (i.e., Books-A-Million, Barnes & Noble), or conventions/shows coworker runs.  Then, there's the online purchases...
I got my Forgotten Realms book signed by Jeff Grubb!

Real cool dude, too!  He's local to the area I live in.  I gave him a Print-on-Demand from DM's Guild to sign last year, and he seemed VERY distraught at the printing.  I said, "Well, I've gotta be pragmatic..."; I recall he just nodded and signed.  Kate Novak was at the first signing I went to, too!  She loaded my sister's F.R. novels and my Setting book with some ink, along with Mister Grubb.

okay so a few things to list off about sword's personality

technically he is an example of the extreme doormat(?) or empty shell trope
he does anything and everything you tell him to do without complaint, as its how he was disciplined into the war

he DOES have a different side to him that i might show someday but for now have a verbose traumatized guy or something

Room behind small door in ravine

What's the ceiling height behind the small door?  With Percy moving about, I was assuming that it's higher than the door was tall but wanted to confirm before posting that Gimrock tried moving into the room
