Looking for some help recoloring character pic in Photoshop

I've managed to do some recoloring, but I'm a complete Photoshop newbie and there are some things I just have no clue how to manage. This character is a Star Wars character, and is pretty close to my ideal, but I need a few colors changed.

Here is the image. I'd like her hair to be made red (a deep red), her eyes blue, cloak a dark blue, and pants either the same dark blue or maybe black. Or white. Not sure. Whatever looks best to your trained eyes. And the stripe on the side of the pants to be a lighter blue. Maybe the saber blade just a little bit darker blue?

All very much with a "please," of course, and a bigtime "thank you" to anyone willing to do it. rMail me and we'll go from there. This is the best I was able to do, but not sure the eye color is good and also I just couldn't get the other stuff to look any good.

I'm not a super Photoshop person and actually grew up on the Corel series products.

By the looks of your edited pic it seems you got most of what Ill suggest down already.

As suggestions:

Keep a safeguarded original.

Always work from an editing file separate from your original sources.

For the hair and eyes perhaps try cut just the head region to a new file. Then try colour replacement tools there. The brownish greyish of the hair is close to her clothes. The separate file might allow the tools you already have in photoshop to do just the hair and eyes. Then copy the changed data back to the editing file.

Fancier use of the tools can set a zone you are working in. This lets the color swap tools work in that zone without affecting those outside.

Try looking in the help or online for keywords like these:

- working zone
- edit region
- color replace

I gave it a go.  I use 'Colorize Photo Online' so there are some limitations.  If you like it, great, and if not, I amused myself for a few minutes. :-)

Thanks for the tips, Brygun. I'll give that a try, and just keep on practicing.

WOW!

*puts away gimp, photoshop, and everything else* - not gonna even try with my poor skills.

Well done, Shannara!

If you want to try, by all means, have fun with it. Make her blonde with blue eyes, perhaps, or whatever you wanna do. I mean, Shannara nailed it, but if you really wanna give it a go, I won't hold it against you. Try blonde or black hair, maybe? Or blue. Or whatevs. I am very grateful, though. It came out perfect.

Re: Looking for some help recoloring character pic in Photoshop

So I could use one more (well, a set of two pics) for anyone with the time and inclination. Then I shall forever leave the thread, so as not to be further tempted, but this last one turned out so great I'm very hopeful. While I keep trying to recolorize these myself, the results are just nowhere near as good yet (especially since I want to use them for character reference pictures here).

This one (the most important one) and maybe this one. Deep red hair, blue eyes, if you please (yes, it's kind of my thing). If you could make the tank top in the second pic a dark blue, like Navy or something, cool, but if not, I'm happy with whatever. Thanks for looking!
