Strange commercials

I'm listening to the radio today and a commercial for a weight loss program comes on. The speaker says it's the perfect Christmas gift and I'm thinking to myself... if I needed to lose weight, would I want this as a Christmas gift? Maybe, but there's at least ten other gifts I'd rather receive.

Anyway, please share here strange commercials and what you find strange about them.

Strange commercials

I once saw an add with a woman in a dress sitting on a glacier. It was a long shot, so you could only just make out her features if you looked pretty hard.

It was a watch ad.

To this day I still can't look at magazine ads seriously.

On a more commercial note, a local dental business showed an ad where a member of their staff had infiltrated a family's home and was being an obnoxious house guest, even drinking straight from the milk jug. And their message was "We treat you like family, but you don't have to treat US like family."

And local adds are always weird but... yeah. No.

I saw a magazine ad that was creepy and puzzling. A woman was naked on a sofa with a giant spider between her legs. I suppose it would have been cool, eerie reveal in a horror movie, but it was an ad for a leather sofa. What were they thinking?

Strange commercials

Don't know if they are still running, I don't watch TV ads much (that's what Fast Forward is for!), but there used to be a series of ads for casinos basically saying that your life was gray and boring unless you went to their casino, then all your problems would disappear and your life would have colour again.  *sigh*

Every Axe body spray commercial, ever.

Most are good for a laugh, though. :D

There's an ad I saw this morning on the metro about a guy who has tons of debts and dreams a giant cat is stalking him and is about to eat him.  Then he gets his debts consolidated and feels great.

Strange commercials

Adverts in general are pretty much weird all over, but for me I find the most incomprehensible ones are those for perfume and similar substances - there's always a load of weird imagery, with maybe an ocean or a strangely-shaped building or loads of trees, and usually a man and/or woman wearing little clothing. If there are two people then they tend to look at each other and act all seductive and stuff. If there's just one person they tend to be acting more sort of forceful, striding forward with confidence. Or still acting seductive, but with no-one there to react to it. And after about thirty seconds of this nonsensical weirdness, an image of the perfume bottle will be shown, together with a (usually) whispery woman voice-over saying its name. Quite what the preceding imagery has to do with a bottle of icky smelly stuff, I have no idea.

Any thing from the Purple Matress company is wierd and often misleading.
Especially this long one I see online staring a Mom Bigfoot. I actually watched it all the way through and found some of it offensive (nasty comments about a popular musical group being part of it).

I find the commercials for the Devour meals really creepy. However, I occasionally call someone a 'lunch spanker' just to mess with their head.
