RPoL pop-up reminder (to help curb [actual!] OCD)

I really need to step away from RPoL, but am having trouble. Most of this will fade in a few days when my medication is fixed to my system. There are times that are worse than others. Like now.

Is there a way to put a note, or reminder on my browser to tell myself not idly log into RPoL? Just a note to tell me how much I should or shouldn't. Technology is better than it ever has been, and is only getting better. Just a pop up that helps keep me on track.

If it comes to it, I'll contact the mods to help, but I loath to do that.

-_- I'll try not to make this a vent. I'm just really worked up, and this happens a few times a year, so an online tool would be good. Much better than annoying the mods to block and unblock my access. Which a "one or couple time thing".

OCD is really hitting me, after a bad run in on here.

Online pop reminders

Are you just wanting to stay away from it for a set time? You could leave yourself a remind in another program to tell yourself when it's been long enough, then just make a point of staying away until the reminder pops up.

Something like "it's okay to RPoL" a week from today. Then just go find something else to occupy your attention until it dings.

Would that do it?

I never try one myself, but a quick google search (browser extension stop wasting time) give some results for extensions that block a website after some time on it:

for chrome: https://chrome.google.com/webs...gcngdelahlfoji?hl=fr

for firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-...addon/leechblock-ng/

I didn't check if they work on phones and tablets.

I use the Stay Focused extension that MalaeDezeld linked to, and it's pretty great.  You can set a list of sites to block or limit.  I use it when i need to concentrate on a task.  It's enough to block Chrome for me.  It's a good enough reminder not to go online, even though i have Firefox, too.

For iOS, I use an app called Forest:  https://itunes.apple.com/in/ap...ent/id866450515?mt=8.  It helps me stay focused on the task at hand and not waste time.  It doesn't block sites (and it's not free), but it might be useful.

I use LeechBlock (which MalaeDezeld linked to) at work. It's pretty good from my experiences. I can't say I've messed around with the time settings, those.

Obviously, you know your body (and mind!) better than anyone, so if RPOL use is starting to interfere with your day-to-day activities of life in a negative way then I absolutely commend you for looking for a way to curb the behavior.

I would also mention, though, that sometimes a bit of escapism can be healthy.  If you've hit a rough patch and RPOL helps you get across it, give yourself permission to do what gives you some measure of peace.

There are Tomato Timer extensions for browsers that could be of help, to block certain sites when you need to focus.

For me, I used the unofficial RPOL notification app on Android.

It needs a little manual effort to block the public forums, so you only get notified of games you run/play in. But it means I can leave the website, and stop checking in on the site so often.

In reply to ShadoPrism (msg # 8):

That used to be my case too (RPoL hompage). I'm just too absorbed into checking it, and spending time just responding to non-game stuff.

I'll look into these programs, so thanks! I found just opening a layer of windows with a notice helped me. If I was on RPoL it was by actively going there, and when I would have to log in it helped to remind me if I wanted to.

I'm doing better now, just very nervous about finding a good fit for me in a game I don't GM. I have a few options, but nothing to occupy me at the pace I need them to. :(

Oh I know That problem well. I am in only one game and it post Very slowly. Like twice a week on average unless I just Happen to catch the GM online at the right moment. Have not really found anything else that has caught my attention gaming wise.
There is a reason why my catch phrase is OCGD after all.
