Thanks StarMaster

You allowed worlds to sparkle long after their suns had failed, you kept the light shining bright, you held the torch proudly and well.

I thank you.

While I didn't play in any of StarMaster's games, I heard about their passing through the grapevine. It's always sad to see someone go, especially those that leave things unfinished in the world (of course, who among us is ever really "done"?).

Those that have to carry forward in their absence, you have my sympathies and warmest thoughts.

I am sorry to hear this, i thought of Joining  some of the games, but my own  eat up time.. through the course of the years here. I have had at least 4 players pass maybe 5. some we hear of , because  someone thought  enough to inform us( maybe the player  had a request for that)..

Those of you who took part, should remember those  games, perhaps  start a 'spin off' of your won  to keep your group together? no one can dupilcate a GMs  cames, but they can making it  'the next step, and playing together  would help keep the memory alive.

Oh no. I just heard about this. I was in a game of his and I stopped playing for a while because of life situations, but I was still in the game. StarMaster, I wish you blessings upon your journey. Thank you for letting me play the character I wanted, even if it was an unusual choice, and for being an inspiration as a GM and roleplayer.

Blessed be, friend!

Fellow Human Beings ... Fellow Gamers ... Friends ...

It is with a saddened heart that I inform you all of the passing of Robert Rusk -- better known to many of us as StarMaster.

Rob passed in his sleep on Thursday morning, July 6, 2023, at approximately 10:30am.  He had been hospitalized since early in the year due to complications concerning Cancer & associated surgeries.  He was 73 years old.

Rob was a Comics Fan Boy & fiction writer wannabe his whole life and came to Roleplaying in the Early Days of 1978.  It was my distinct pleasure to have met him, and gamed with him, since that time.

After his Retirement, Rob committed himself to the community he found in RPol, participating in over 20+ games, here.  He was an especial "softie" for GM-adopting abandoned games and working to keep them running, for the enjoyment of the Players.

He will be missed.

His roommate posted this in a game we shared. I was in 6 Traveller games with starmaster, He was a great man and friend.

I did not know StarMaster, but I greatly appreciate those of you who have called attention to his passing. I am glad to have the opportunity to honor him, and his life, and his contribution to gaming, in my own way. I hope others will join me, whether they knew him or not.

Godspeed, rest in peace, see you on the other side.

I am so sorry to hear this.  For his friends, family, roommate, players, any and all he has graced with his time here, may your memories of him never fade.  While I never joined one of his games (that I can think of), he was a presence here, that is not in doubt.  I only wish we could do something to honor his memory, so he'll never be forgotten.

So, I'm going to ask.   Is there anything that can be done on the admin side?

Re: Thanks StarMaster

Damn... checking in on Rpol after a number of years and I am very saddened to hear about Rob's passing. I played in a game of his about ten years ago for nearly a year before my kid was born and I sadly set Rpol aside. But I loved reading his games even then.

A true architect of the imagination and a ceaseless creator of enjoyment for so many people that he never knew. There's something pretty awesome about an Rpol GM--not making things for one's friends but for the love of game. Rob did that with such energy and patience that Rpol has become lesser for his passing.

Hats off to those of you seeking to pick up the torch. And may he finally find and visit the stars he sought for so long.

Re: Thanks StarMaster

In reply to Hunter (msg # 9):

I will say, having never met Rob, I think it speaks to my own approach of my passing, that there will only ever be one StarMaster. Part of the bittersweet nature of the one account policy is that no other user shall ever have that name. His player has logged off, but the user handle will not lose its grip until RPoL goes down entirely. To me that is a quiet reverence. I certainly won't say more. I didn't know him. I truly missed that.
