Greetings!

Hello there!

After waiting for a really long time (the activation email took several days before it arrived) I finally got access to my shiny new RPoL account! You can feel free to call me Ryan, or my internet name, whichever you prefer. As to my experience, I've been roleplaying for about 12 years, Gamemastering for 10, and loved all of it.

I originally got my start playing Dungeons and Dragons with my older brother, but that was short lived. Shortly thereafter I became a frequent poster over on the Dead Frontier roleplaying forums and loved it. Had some great times, but eventually switched back to tabletop roleplaying because I found it infinitely more enjoyable in the moment.

Now I find myself coming back to forum roleplaying because I'm quite strapped for time! I used to run multiple games before my current job, but now I barely have time for the one. But I always have about an hour or so that I don't quite know how to spend, and figured what better way than to enjoy some old fashioned play-by-post?

Genre wise, my favorites have always been post-apocalyptic/dystopian settings, but a great idea is a great idea any way you slice it, so I'm open to anything. I don't often do fantasy, but have made exceptions. My favorite setting overall is probably Shadowrun, and I gamemastered that for about 3 years. Coincidentally, that is the game I'm running currently. Other games I've run include All Flesh Must Be Eaten, GURPS, Savage Worlds, and D&D 3.5e/5th.

One thing I did want to ask because I couldn't find it anywhere, is there an official RPoL Discord? If so, I'd love to join it for some instantaneous responses! Feel free to point me in some directions if either you're a gamemaster wanting to pitch an idea to a prospective player, or looking for a gamemaster. I'll be perusing in the meantime to see if there's anything interesting!

Greetings!

Hi Duton1,

The official channels for finding or offering a game are the Wanted - Players forum and the Wanted - GMs forum. You can probably find what you're looking for there sooner or later.

It's against site policy for a GM to post here or to Rmail someone with an offer of a game - to prevent spamming - so you're unlikely to get a bite that way.

Greetings!

I think the rMail policy is against randomly sending invitations to join games (which is, truly, spamming)...but I don't think it's a general ban on the practice.  I hope not, some of the most enjoyable games I've been in on RPOL were games where someone rMailed me and said, basically, "I've read some of your posts in the public forums, and I like the way you think and your general approach to gaming.  Would you be interested in joining this game I'm starting?  I want the right blend of players and you seem like a good fit."  I've got a few online friendships that started that way...

I 100% agree facemaker. I definitely don't think randomly messaging people to join a game is a good idea, but under certain circumstances where a player has done a lot of awesome things in games either similar or potentially applicable, I don't think a well worded and polite invitation specific to that player can mean any harm.

Also, I've definitely been looking into those places @Icosahedron, but with regards to my looking for an RPoL discord, I was looking for a place where one might be able to talk to the aggregate population of RPoL outside of the forums for a faster response and casual conversation.

Re: Greetings!

There is no official RPoL discord.

The whole point of the site is that you don't have to be online at specific times, many users have jobs or other commitments which severely restrict their free time (which is why they choose to use a site like RPoL) so only a relatively small number of users are here at any particular time of the day.
