Trapped in another world (our world)

I was thinking on how cool would it be to give a reversal of the usual "modern people go to another medieval fantasy dimension" by having things go the other way around. A party of four or five adventurers -even stereotypical adventurers- follows a great evil to our world, bonus points if it isn't to LA or NY, then hilarity ensues as they have to deal with unexpected and weird things from cars and computers to even the changing standards of society.

I'm open to any D&D edition for this (but I would prefer if the DM was a little lax with me to get my desired character if it is done with 5e, or just have vanilla non-mythic and no traits PF if PF -no PF I have a strong PF curse-) Though I could work with other systems if the DM wanted to run M&M -3rd ed, sorry can't get 2e anymore- or GURPS -a little handholding would be nice if the later-.

So, does anybody feel like running this one?

I would have to learn the rules, as I have only glanced at them, but if this gets started I would be interested in playing as well.

Hmmm, I would have to ponder this one.  I have thought of this topic a few times, but no real inspiration has ever popped up.  I have 5th ed and ADD. I would be tempted top play in it as well.

Isn't this the plot from Warlock? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098622/

Sounds interesting.

Have you considered asking for it in D20 modern/Urban Arcana. That gives you stats for the modern world, and can still allow for creation of fully function fantasy PCs

I could adapt, (I've  never understood the wealth system from Modern, kinda confusing. But with some help...) like I said I'm open to other systems, D20 Modern included.

In reply to LunarKitty (msg # 9):

Wealth wouldn't matter in a D&D to Urban Arcana conversion. New arrivals would start off at Wealth 0, and likely be confused by modern commerce, anyhow.

The UA book has some simplified conversion rules for bringing in D&D 3.5 characters. And the skill equivalencies are easy enough to work out (and may be listed in the back of D20M).

Let me put up an IC thread and see if there's enough interest.

I would be up to runing this.

great evil is not alone but has lieutenants and followers

Characters do not know the Great evil, but must figure it out once they arrived.

Non combat maps would be google maps (trademark)

Not starting in a big city, I can do that.

Do you want language to be a thing?

I will have a game thread soon.

here is the thread for the game, i am still building so be patient with the start.

to provide a base of operations and backup. i will use either "The Library" from the Librarians, or "Warehouse 13" as from the show.

i don't intend it to be a large plot item, unless you as the players wish to do so.

they will just serve as the means to run interference and explain away what the "locals" are not intended to see.

In reply to LunarKitty (msg # 1):

Not sure if this has been solved yet. For me this brings up thoughts of Enchanted. What would you think about making D&d versions of fairy tale characters that get sucked into the modern world? I see a bit of an opportunity for some comedy here, but perhaps the shift from fairy tale to reality brings with it some dark realism as well. I suppose this also crosses paths with Once Upon a Time as well. And with the card game Gloom (Fairy Tale).

Just a thought on how to tackle this concept.

OK, I've set up a site for the original request: D&D characters arriving in the modern world.

It's going to start using D&D 3.5 and end using D20 Modern and the Urban Arcana supplement.

Ok, let's try again. Bump. I'm looking for this kind of game, just with two precisions: small party and -if using 3.5/Urban Arcana- sorcerers get ported as monsters instead of using the conversion rules -so they remain innate spellcasters and not get saddled with a book-.

Let me think on this, I did it years ago in 1st ed.  But if I did it now it would be in GURPS (with some adaptations).

As an aside, there was a module printed in Dragon Magazine with a related premise.  A group of adventurers is sent through a gate to recover an artifact on another world (modern day London!).  It had some flaws but was interesting.  The City through the Gate was the title I think.  I'll have to go and flip through my Dragons to find it.
