Let's build a world that lasts
Edit: it's been a hell ov' a day for me, so I'm fixing some caught typos. What do you need from a GM for the Elvish Bard?
I'm basically newbie to D&D 5e. I know literally nothing about Xandria other than the name. I have no idea what to expect other than elves and bards being in it. lol. I am, however, reading you wanting to build a world up, rather than find a niche in a pre-established campaign setting. So that might not be a bad thing, and might be a plus.
I know 5e enough to cold read, and improvise. I know the very core basics of the system's necessities. I know how healing works with HD, I know about "Action" types being largely condensed to an action; just that, and the freebies you get either bonus or as "part of" your action. I also, of course, should say I am a long time D&D player, though certainly newer than old school. So AC, and HP, and saves are basically old hat and closer to 3e (when I started) than anything like THAC0, where the old school had a youth's lifetime to enjoy.
I have a love of Western (but also Eastern) fantasy games. Elves, magic, and medieval weaponry, all still excite me after all this time. Bards have always been an interest, since I love sharing music (though certainly not my own!) both receiving and offering.
What kind of posting rate do you want?
I can't post very often unless you catch me at the right time of day. Time of day is most critical. If I see red light pop up, while I'm on RPoL, and ask a question or state an action, and then see a reply, we'll get SO much farther than my maybe once a week crap-shoot. This is largely a good reason I follow solo games, as a GM, but still stick to group play (sadly) so there's more chance for even just ONE good connection. If I can find just one person who can post in sync, even once a week, then we could have well over 2k posts in a year. With a group, it ends up being closer to a quarter of that, with the real progress being when everyone is FINALLY in tune. I would love a solo game that had a communication out of character about projected "I'll be on RPoL on Monday" or "I've got a free day today. If you can be on in less than three hours, I could devote..." some amount of time to gaming; even if it's something where you have an hour here, and hour there, and then maybe two fifteen minute sneak posts.
My solo games have failed, because I simply can't devote much of the week to posting. Heck, there have been certain months I post once or twice, but had a solid 48 hours to devote to RPoL, only to have nothing to interact with.
Here's an idea: consider this a back up game. Nothing in my series of posting to elicit closing off other options. If you're busy, and it doesn't work, I hope we can just figure that out with no drama. If it works, it'll be happy serendipity.
You just have to ask yourself if it's worth taking a chance, and devoting to transparent communication of when you're busy and not.
In closing, my schedule is VERY and I mean VEEEERY erratic. I don't even have a set sleep schedule, because of my home life and health needs. So it's likely we will sync up better, and by that that I mean MUCH better, than two people who may have identical interest, but just have totally opposite on/off cycles with long term consistency. It can take me between 15 minutes and an hour to make a post. So there's potential, especially on the once on a blue moon dead days; canceled doctor's visits, emergency otherwise handled by a family or friend, broken down car, few hour heating/cooling repair; etc... I have, on occasion, had the pleasure to game with people on RPoL who've had some of these things happen, and we easily hit over a hundred posts in one day. It's also a great way to relax on those otherwise stressful days prone to provoke superfluous worry.
I hope you'll consider this.
Good luck! I hope you have fun in whatever you do on RPoL!
