Chapter 2.7: Exam 2

Sima had returned the next day to the same exact spot as instructed yesterday. Everybody made it and was present and accounted for. They were not ready to begin. The three stages had been disassembled and thrown away. The training grounds now looked like an obstacle course of some kind and many of the genin were curious. A bunch of jonin officers had been present as well and just before Sima said anything, they dispersed within the obstacle course tunnel, disappearing from sight.

Peering inside the tunnel, you can see how dark it is, making it nearly impossible to even see anything. It had a mysterious feeling to it and very cold air could be felt from within. There were many entry ways, just enough for a squad each to participate. It also looked like they had their own hallway, so it meant each squad had its own tunnel way without interaction with other squads.

Sima faced the squads at the front of the entry ways, facing all of them with an amused look. "Behind me is our famous obstacle course. Only the best genin only ever make it out alive. Normally, these are used for training purposes, but overnight, I have modified them to test your skills and abilities," he started to explain. "As you can see, not only is it incredibly dark, it is also freezing inside. The object of this test is to simply get through the course," he told them and a lot of smug faces appeared on the genin. He began to laugh. "Now, that would be too easy. The first one to make it makes it to the last exam," he paused for a moment. "And the last one to make it, is eliminated," he said and most squads began to panic.

"The longer you stay in those tunnels, you'll more than likely freeze to death. As dark as it is, you are unable to see the surprises waiting for you. Several Jonin officers await your arrival. You may even encounter other squads. The surprises are endless. The tunnel ways are also very narrow, barely leaving any of your elbow room. Be wise about your choices and tactics. A simple flame or single drop of water could be your doom," he finished and moved to the side, allowing the squads to line up in an entry way.

All three members post first. GM will give signal to begin to give you your first obstacle.

GM will also tell you when to begin.

Chapter 2.7: Exam 2

Nanami lines up "Both of you look past the rule of one of us being eliminated. The point of that is to turn us on one another. If we are to survive this we still have to work as a team. Remember there are always surprise rules and such that pop up. We all want to win." She pauses and smiles "If we fight each other, we will all lose. I don't mind it when we are on the straight away, when we reach that point. But until then lets help one another as much as possible."

Nanami thinks "Also be wary of using Jutsu in that tunnel, when the proctor said, a single drop of water or flame could spell the doom of us. We need to be wary of that. I am ready when you two are."

Chapter 2.7: Exam 2

Sigmund had rested perfectly well in the room they were given and he had woken up feeling fresh and confident for today's exam. Upon arriving, he noticed the weird tunnel looking passages. They hadn't been there before yesterday. He wondered how they got here today. No matter, he thought as he paid attention to the instructions. When the proctor mentioned the cold air, he just smirked. Their sensei pulled this on them in the very beginning so they knew the cold whether feeling. But they were also warned about flame jutsus and water jutsus. It didn't sound good and it didn't sound good either when he mentioned the one gets to advance and the last one is eliminated. Was it one person or a whole squad? He wasn't sure. He looked at Nanami who began to explain for them to work together and not fight against each other. He nodded his head. "We'll get through this. We've done something similar before, so we can accomplish this too!" he said excitedly.

Chapter 2.7: Exam 2

After the last exam finished, the team headed to the room where they would be able to rest until the next morning. They made their way back to the exam grounds and it looked completely different than it did yesterday. Everything was taken down and now they came face to face with...tunnels? She looked at them for a few moments before she heard their proctor come up and announce the next part of the test. When he started to explain what it was going to be, she couldn't help but think back to how similar it was to their sensei's test. Give or take a few more things were added, but nonetheless, it sounded challenging. She expected nothing less. When she heard him say that the first ones to get there would advance and the last ones there would be eliminated, Nori couldn't help but wonder if it was the whole team or the last person. Neither option sounded good, but regardless, when it came to their team, none of them would leave each other behind. They would get through this together. She turned her head and looked over at teammates before she nodded in agreement. "Let's do this!" she said with a smile and a pumped fist.

Chapter 2.7: Exam 2

Challenge 1:

Sima smiled as they appointed their leaders and finally spoke up again. "I forgot to mention one more thing," he said as other Jonin leaders started approaching each group. "Each of you will receive this bracelet that cannot be unlocked or taken off unless you have the key. This is your first obstacle and the key is in there. But there is only one key. You all must decide which one in your group can be released because let me tell you, these bracelets can release the deadliest shocks you'll ever experience," Sima began to explain and he saw the fright in everyone's face.

The Jonin began equipping and locking the bracelets on everybody's wrist. "You will enter the tunnels and come to a small box which contains your key. Once you decide who gets to be relieved, your other two teammates will experience a shock that will cramp them up for a bit. The longer they have that bracelet on throughout the course, the more severe those shocks become. There will be two other keys in the course so choose wisely," he said with a smirk as he raised his arm. "You may all enter the tunnels. Good luck," he told them as the groups began entering the tunnels to begin their first challenge.

Chapter 2.7: Exam 2

Sigmund was pretty concerned over the new rule and bracelets. When they entered, they felt the cold air immediately as they reached the room with the box and the bolted door. He was use to this cold though because their sensei's crystal rooms prepared them for this moment. He tried opening the door, but was unsuccessful. He looked at the box, opening it up and just looking at the key. He looked at his bracelet again, before looking at his group. "Nanami. Look at this key," he said, grabbing it and handing it to her. "What do you see?" he asked her.

Chapter 2.7: Exam 2

Nori listened to Sima tell them about the first obstacle and that they would be equipped with bracelets that could be unlocked with keys throughout the course. However, it seemed like they would have consequences the longer they stayed on. She wasn't too sure how she felt about that. She didn't want any of them to be hurt, but it may be inevitable. The proctor soon dismissed they walked through the tunnel to their first challenge. It was freezing, but nothing that they couldn't handle as they had already endured this with Akuma sensei. Nori stopped when they came upon a closed door and watched Sigmund try to open it but was unsuccessful. Her eyes drifted towards a box that he opened and like they were told, the key was there. She folded her arms across her chest and she looked over at Nanami.

Nanami takes the key from Sigmund "I can try a few things, keys aren't always what they seem. I can try using the Release jutsu, to see if something is hidden. It might even show something about the bracelet or the door itself." She makes the hand-seal and uses the release technique, the key firmly between her hands. Any Genjutsu affecting them in the general could be dispelled.

She then opened her eyes seeing if anything including the door and key had changed...

Chapter 2.7: Exam 2

Entire group feels shocks in their bracelets lasting for 3 seconds. Their arms tense up enough for them to fall on their knees.

A few moments later, they feel another shock which was intensified for another 3 seconds.

Another few seconds pass by and they feel an even greater shock for another 3 seconds, this time enough to cripple them.

The door and key are unaffected.

Nanami grumbles as she stands "I get it, this complicates things. The person without the bracelet on.. They can use jutsu freely, but it will shock those with the bracelets on. Thus why he warned against using Jutsu. So we will have to decide who uses the key, and we will have to be selective when we use Jutsu." She looks at Sigmund "Its your call Captain.."

Sigmund was on his knees, trying to recover from the extensive shocks with no preparation of it. He was confused though when Nanami explained about the jutsu use. He shook his head. "If that were true, why did we get shocked multiple times because of one jutsu use?" he asked as he got up and moved his arm around, trying to be rid of the tingling feeling. "It has to be something else, but thinking logically, a genjutsu would have been too easy," he began to explain as he held the key up and looked in the key whole of his bracelet. "What if this one key actually unlocks all of our bracelets and the other keys are just to throw us off?" he asked her cleverly, smirking at the thought of perhaps being right.

Sigmund had been on the floor at this point as he allowed the shocks to pass throughout his body. He panted as he recovered yet again. "Ease up. We'll be fine. There's gotta be a trick to this. I'll give it a go," he replied as he inserted the key into the bracelet and turned it. The bracelet fell off his wrist and hit the ground. Once it did, Nori and Nanami felt another shock. The shocks got worse the more they received. Sigmund was free from shocks now and he held the key out.

You hear the bolts on the metal door unlock. The door swings open, allowing access to continue on. Leader takes lead and then the other two follow.

Upon going through the dark hallway, he begin to notice the temperature has dropped a bit. You feel colder and your chest get a bit heavy. Because of the tight spacing, you feel a bit overwhelmed and anxious.

Continuing on, you approach another room and see a chair. Someone is in it and they seem unconscious for the time being. Due to the lightning, you can't really tell who it is and your surroundings are very iffy with all the darkness. They are chained to the chair and there is a table with a note:

"We need to know where the scroll is. Interrogate him for the answer. You have been provided an anti-truth serum and a truth serum. Use it at your own free will. Too much truth serum and he could go into shock. If he dies, you will experience a deadly shock yourself and won't be able to move on for awhile. If you are successful, he will tell you where the scroll is. Use any means necessary. You can give him three different doses of serum: Small, moderate, and high."

There is no way out of the room and it has yet another bolted door.

The combination should be enough to get the answer we need. This is not me overthinking it. But the trick might be them wanting us to use the serums. Either serum might kill him. So lets use out strengths to get what we want. I can use Genjutsu to adjust our visages, or our surroundings, or even his chains into things that would terrify anyone. What do you think Sigmund?"

I don't know what kind of test this is, but I want to avoid death. Lets wake him up and see if this works," he said as he took of his coat. He didn't want to ruin it because his spare is back home in Konohagakure so he wanted to preserve this coat as much as possible. He handed his coat to Nori. She was a support type of person so she could make herself useful by using her to hold his things for the time being.

Sigmund allowed Nanami to wake the man up. He took a stance in front of the man, not yet using his kekkei until the man was awake and fully aware.

Chapter 2.7: Exam 2

When Nori felt Nanami use her release jutsu on the key, a sudden electric shock went through her that caused her cringe and fall down to her knee. When the three seconds passed, she thought it was over but then another and greater shock went through her and then another, causing her to fall down onto her other knee. The shocking soon stopped and she slowly stood up to her feet once more. That hurt more than she thought it would. Her eyes drifted back over to Nanami and the key. She supposed it did make sense that they couldn't use any jutsu's with the bracelets on. That was why they needed to chose one person, so they could help their other two teammates. "I suppose that does make sense, but who's going to be the one to take theirs off first?" Nori asked before she heard Sigmund speak up, causing her to turn her head and look over at him.

A universal key? That really hadn't occurred to her. She was about to speak up and say something but then she felt another shock go through her, only it lasted longer this time and caused her to fall to her knees again. She wrapped her arms around herself and waited for that tingling sensation to go away before she slowly stood up to her feet again, but it proved to be a waste of time as another shock went through her when Sigmund's bracelet dropped to the floor. Nori growled. "Dammit." She gritted her teeth and watched him give the key over to Nanami. She expected another shock to go through her, but there was nothing. A sigh of relief escaped her. She wasn't sure if she could handle another shock like that last one.

When Nori heard Sima's voice over the intercom, she looked up at the ceiling. Looks like Sigmund was right. It was universal key. Her eyes turned to Nanami as she came over and unlocked her bracelet. She stood up to her feet again, but then she felt her friend take her hand and they took off running through the door that opened for them. Upon going through the door, they encounter a dark hallway and a sudden change in temperature. She felt her chest grow tight, but the three of them continued on until they reached another room. It was there that she saw a man in chair that looked to be unconscious. She blinked. What kind of test was this? It was then that she heard Sima's voice speak up again, telling them that they need to get the location of scroll from him by interrogating him with truth serum.

Was it really going to be that easy? It couldn't have been. Nori turned her head and looked over at Nanami. "I don't think we should hurt him to that extent. I know Sima-sensei said we could use any means necessary, but I don't think we need to go so far as to physically force the answer out of him. He still might not tell us anything," she said. "But I guess playing with his mind could work." She wasn't sure if she was even heard at that point as both Nanami and Sigmund seemed to be figuring things out between the two of them. It felt like she wasn't even here. They could probably do this on their own if they wanted to. Just that thought made Nori feel a bit discouraged, but she shook her head. She couldn't think like that. They did need her...didn't they? It was then that she felt something put into her hands and it caused her to look down. It was Sigmund's coat. What the hell? That very action caused her to deeply scowl and look up at him. What the hell did she look like to him? A servant? A coat rack? Was this all he thought she was good for? Nori gripped the coat in her hands and out of anger she tossed his precious coat onto the floor.

The room wasn't that big so their so called 'whispers' to each other could be clearly heard. He had turned around and looked Nori dead in the eye after witnessing his coat on the floor. "Stop with the damn drama already and grow the hell up, Nori. Maybe if you stopped standing around and actually started stepping up and doing something for once, perhaps I would start giving you more respect," he snapped before walking closer. Nanami was the only thing between her two comrades. "I don't need the drama here, especially during this race. I am not about to lose because some girl had some stupid crush on me. Get over it and grow up already. Leave the drama at Konoha," was all he told her before grabbing his coat and putting it back on. "You want to be a hot shot? Nanami as she stood behind the man as he awoke "About time, I give you another few seconds to clear your head." The last part of the statement wasn't just aimed at the man they were suppose to interrogate, but also at Sigmund. Nanami was growing tired of this feud between Sigmund and Nori, and it wasn't a crush thing something traumatic had to have happened between the two.

She let out a small, annoyed sigh, but she quickly changes her tone to be more firm "Nori-chan please stand in front of the man, since mister drama over there wants to be a lone wolf, and don't move until you see my nod. Just stand there glaring menacingly as the man wakes up. Leave the rest to me." This type of thing is exactly why she procured a few different medical supplies before they left from Konoha.

She takes a Syringe from her belt pouch and twirls it, waiting for the man to actually wake up.

Chapter 2.7: Exam 2

Upon hearing Sigmund's voice, Nori turned her head and looked him straight in the eyes. She was being dramatic? Really? Now she was pissed. "You don't think I haven't tried contributing to this team. I've put everything I've had into all of this since day one. You just haven't taken the time to notice! You're the one that tries to act like Mr. High and Mighty all the time and be the hot shot. You think that you can do anything in comparison to me because you've always seen me as the weak type ever since we were kids. You're not the only one that has trained and worked hard. I've done it, too. I've done nothing but try and get your respect. If you have a problem with my attitude, Sigmund, than maybe you should try and be a better leader because attitude reflects leadership. We're all supposed to be part of a team and respect each other, but you...you don't even need us. If it was up to you, you would do all of this on your own, but you need us because you can't do these exams without a team," she retorted with a solemn expression, knowing that it was true.

"And maybe you're right. Maybe there was a small part of me that thought I liked you, but in all honesty, Sigmund, I just wanted you to acknowledge me as a person. I wanted you to notice me and what I could do. I wanted your respect, but now that I look back on it now, I see that maybe I really was a fool for thinking I could get anything from you. Maybe I'm not the smartest or the strongest between you and Nanami, but I won't let you belittle me and think of me as someone that is only good at holding your coat. I am more than that. I've always been more than that and I'm tired of trying to prove it to you, Sigmund. I'm tired of trying to get my opinions heard, but am bypassed because of decisions that are being made for me. I try, Sigmund. I try my damn best to step up and you just make it seem like I've done nothing at all to even try. I'm not trying to be dramatic and I'm not trying to bring personal feelings into this because I, too, think, it's a waste of time. I also want to pass these exams just as much as you do. I want to pass these exams not to prove anything to anyone, but to prove to myself that I'm strong and capable of being a Chunin. I'm a much better person than you think I am, Sigmund. Maybe if you make the effort to get to know me at all, you would see that just maybe I'm a little smarter and stronger in more ways than you could ever be."

This was it. This was the moment that Nori would really be stepping up and showing how serious she was. This wasn't about being a hot shot. She never wanted that. She just wanted to be part of a team that respected each other like they were taught. There were things that she admired about each of her teammates and she would always have respect for their abilities and their ambition. Knowing Sigmund, everything she just said wouldn't even be taken seriously but you know what? She didn't need his approval. She didn't need his acceptance. She was going to pass these exams. When she heard the man wake up, Nori turned her head and looked down at him. "Rise and shine, mister," she told him with folded arms and looked over at Nanami. She nodded her head. She didn't need to be told twice. She stepped in front of the binded man in the chair. "We can do this the easy way or the hard way, sir, so I suggest you just cooperate or else my friend here will stick you with a needle and you won't like it."

She smirked down at the man. "You sure are acting cocky for a man being restrained to a chair," she said before she unfolded her arms from across her chest and reached out her arms towards him. She used her hands to wrap around the man's wrists that were restrained to the arms of the chair and put pressure down on them before she leaned in close to his face. "You have something we want and no matter what it takes, we will get it. You may be acting all tough right now, but you won't be that way when we're done with you." Nori put more pressure down on the man's wrist to the point where they could break. If there was one thing she had to her advantage it was her strength. She turned her head and looked back to Nanami. "Give me the syringe," she told her.

The man just looked at her and looked smug as they stared at each other. She continued threaten and he continued to just give her a smug look of interest. She had pressed down on his wrists and although she intended to break his wrists, he really didn't feel too much pressure on him. "You can break me and eat me for all I care. Over my dead body will you ever get the information," he snapped and spit in Nori's face and laughed.

Chapter 2.7: Exam 2

Nanami looked at both Sigmund and Nori "Seriously you two.. Before the third exam we are going to have a long talk, and all your doing is wasting time. So I am no longer going to waste time. Your bull shit is costing us precious time. So either get in the game or there's the door." The very angry stare gazes over the man in chains "You can think that all you want mister. Terror is something that I am great at inducing, especially when this drug is used.

She smiles evilly "This drug is made up of several extracts. The primary use is for this type of thing. This drug will increase all of your pain receptors in all of your nerves by a hundred fold. Even the slightest touch will cause agonizing pain. I don't have to hurt you, to hurt you." She wasn't making idle threats at all, at this point. She was entirely fed up with her teammates pissing matches. She pulled the captives head back, and injects the drug into the man corroded artery "It should take effect in about ten seconds. Sitting there will cause agonizing pain, touching the table will be agonizing. Your feet touching the ground will cause intense pain. If this isn't enough."

As she stands behind the man, making sure the man doesn't see her weave the hand-seals. She casts her Genjutsu over the entire area. The original room would actually appear to melt away revealing a hell like area. Fire, brimstone demons killing people. Even her teammates would melt away and become demon-like in appearance.

The drug would be taking effect by this point.

That guy over there is already set in his ways and he's not going to change his mind about what he thinks, so you're wasting your breath, Nanami," she said before she looked back down to the man in front of her. She stared down into his eyes as he spit in her face, but she didn't flinch. She just watched as her teammate injected the drug into him and grew silent. It was only a matter of time before he would start feeling the effects. "Just give it up unless you want to feel more pain."

The man just looked at them as they injected the syringe. He was willing to take pain. He closed his eyes as he screamed in agony. However, Nanami's genjutsu was not successful. The man had been specially trained in Genjutsu and due to the test, they made sure Genjutsu was not effective in the test. He continued to scream, but refused to give in. Unfortunately, the foreign drug caused a heart attack, which resulted in his death. He hung limp in the chair, his screams quiet.

Sigmund just watched as they terrorized the man in the chair. He allowed the girls to do their thing as they both stayed mad at him. At this point, he didn't care right now. He was too pissed off to care right now. He needed his space and time for the time being. They had injected the man with a syringe which probably wasn't the right way to go about this. He knew their spat probably just cost them this obstacle. The man had eventually started flailing within the chair and appeared to have died. He rose from the wall and was in complete shock. They literally killed him. Sigmund had no words for what just happened.

She looked up at the door "I love tests that are rigged." She looks at the man and pulls out the two other syringes. All of what she said and did took seconds. Once the man appeared to go into shock she took another syringe full of adrenaline, which clears and counters the other drug "No dying on us yet." She slams the syringe into the mans chest, right into the mans heart "And if this doesn't work, then it is rigged." She said as she looks up at the intercom unit.

What are you-" she began to say until she saw the man go into shock, causing her to take a one step back but then her teammate slammed the syringe into his chest. That action made her wince, but she remained still. "Wait. T-that's going to help keep him alive, right?" In truth, Nori was a little amazed that Nanami knew about how to do things like this. "Congratulations. After observing your tactics, you proved unsuccessful to gain the information asked for and even failed to execute simple instructions. The man presented to you needs real medical attention now after already killing him. The point of the test was to test your interrogation skills. Heading straight to violent methods is sometimes not always the way to go. You as a squad failed because none of you worked as a team as well. Enjoy the shock within the room."

The metal door from the other room swung closed and locked behind them. The floor began to charge up and in a matter of seconds, the entire squad and the man included received a 10 second long shock for failure of the obstacle.

Because even in ANBU you will still have a team most of the time."

To be honest, I can become strong without becoming a Chunin, its nothing more then a title. It won't stop me from learning, training, and gaining more powerful jutsu. But this is besides the point." She walks over to the man "I apologize for nearly killing you."

She takes out a vitamin, and chakra pill and eats them. She makes a sour face as she does. Eventually she swallows them. She takes out her bow and uses a healing arrow on the man to at least help him recover a little. She then moves over to the door frame and waits for the time to pass "Now we wait."

Nori turned her head and looked over at Nanami when she saw her heat it up and hold it towards the man's eye. "Um, Nanami. Wait. You really aren't going to use that, are y-" she began to say before she heard Sima's voice come over the intercom telling them they failed the test because they fight work as a team to get the information. She loosened her hold on the man's wrists and looked down at him. She lightly sighed, but before she could speak, she could hear the door slam and lock behind them. It was then that they felt an electric shock that coursed through her body. It felt like forever, but it only lasted ten seconds before it stopped. It was enough, though. She held onto the edge of the chair as she slowly stood up from the ground in time to hear Nanami tell them that her and Sigmund needed to put aside their differences.

It was just as she was about to say something that she heard Sigmund speak up and naturally he blamed it on her. "Of course you're going to blame this on me to make yourself feel justified. I think out of between the two of us, you're the one that needs to grow up," Nori said with a scowl. "I'm willing to take the blame and own up to things I may have said or done that effected our results for this test, but I'm still not going to let you think it's okay for you to belittle me and treat me like I'm beneath you, Sigmund. We're all in the same boat right now and not one of us is better than the other, but we're all part of this team and we all have strengths that we can contribute. As a leader, you're supposed to inspire Nanami and I to do better and as a team, we all need to bring out the best, not the worse, in each other. I'm willing to put everything aside and focus on what matters: passing these exams." Nori turned on her heel and made her way over to Sigmund before she stopped a few feet in front of him.

"Look, Sigmund. Ever since we were kids, I've looked up to you. You were strong. You were smart. And you were the most knowledge hungry person I knew. I was so proud to be your friend, but we're older now and although you choose not to be my friend anymore, I have to respect that. I am going to let go of the past and stand on my own two feet. I just ask that as your teammate, you treat me with a little bit of respect and make me feel like I am apart of this team. Don't just dismiss me and what I have to say because I do matter. If you can do those things, I will follow you as a leader until the end," she said and held out her hand to Sigmund. "Deal?"

She wanted to make up whereas he wanted to just be done with her. He felt he didn't do anything wrong. He also felt he had no need to apologize and seriously shake her hand for something incredibly stupid. It was two against one regardless. As she held her hand out, he didn't even move an inch or a muscle to even both bringing his hand up. He just continued to look at her, before he finally stood up, bringing his hands to his pockets and moved passed her. He walked towards the bolted door, placing his hand on it. Challenge 3:

It was only moments before the bolted door unlocked and swung open. The group moves forward onto the next room. Once they're in, the door immediately closed shut, the bolts locking into place. The one thing they notice as they enter is the temperature dropped and they could hear water, but the water isn't in the room, not yet anyways. On the ceiling a large tube was half way in this room where water could definitely fill this room up. Another opening in the wall looked like it connected itself to the other room on the other side allowed water to flow out of the room like a suction cup. Across the room, there is a metal plaque that lights up and has instructions once again on the metal bolted door.

"You better love water because you fishes may be swimming. This room and the other room are connected in terms of this challenge involving water. The water is extremely cold due to the cold temperatures so you may freeze to death. Injector chamber is this room and container chamber is the next room. The current status of injector chamber is at 0 of 3 million sangen. Container chamber is at 0 of 5 million sangen. Unstable at 4 million sangen. Pressure would rupture chamber seal, causing both rooms to empty out and you can safely move on. There is a control panel in front of you that works well underwater if need be. Be smart and don't drown fishes.

The control panel was right under the plaque and looking at the options, they had multiple options. It would seem there will be a pattern for this challenge and if done wrongly, they could drown and fail.

The first options are:
-Fill Container Chamber
-Fill Injector Chamber
-Or do nothing.

First thing we might want to do is figure how much water is released with each go of the lever. We need a total of four million to cause the seals to burst and the water to flow out. So I would suggest trying the one that floods the other room. Also if it is only so much with each go. We can use our water walking training to stay dry for a little bit. This room maxes out at three million, the other room five million. So we have to reach the four million range. But then there is this odd -Do nothing- lever.. Its very curious. It may be whats stops the water flow into a room."

Chapter 2.7: Exam 2

Nanami ponders "Well here is the only issue I have with what he said. He said four million would destabilize the seals. But if it was only four million on one side that would be to easy. We could fill the other room with four million and solved. Well enough theorizing, we are not even sure how much water is released when we use this control panel. So start with the other room? Lets not completely ignore the -do nothing button.- It may be just a distraction, or it may be the key to our survival. So which one shall we try? This room, the other room. Or maybe even hitting both simultaneously?"

Chapter 2.7: Exam 2

Sigmund chose to just simply leave it to his hands since the girls didn't decide on any options on their own. Although he was leader, it didn't always mean he had the answers or that every time a situation came up, he had to be the one to deal with it. He finally sighed, going up to the panel, ignoring the nothing option because he was positive it did absolutely nothing. He clicked the option to fill up the Container Chamber. He heard seals or valves of some sort open in the other room and started hearing running water fill up the other room. It took a minute or two before the entire room filled up and new options appeared on the control panel with a status overview:

Status:
Container Chamber at 5 of 5 sangen.
Injector Chamber at 0 of 3 sangen.

  • Fill Injector Chamber
  • Dump Container Chamber
  • Transfer from Container to Injector
  • Nothing

Sigmund continued to stare at the screen before he spoke once again. "Now we know filling either room will fill it up all the way. At some point, this room will need to be filled up and with the cold already here, that water will definitely make us go hypodermic. We'll need warmth afterwards right away or we won't make it," he explained as he turned around to them, waiting for any suggestions or ideas.

Nori watched Sigmund go up to the panel and click the 'Container Chamber' before she heard something click open and rushing water. She turned her head and saw the room beside them began to fill up. It took a minute, but the water filled up the entire room and she looked back down to the control panel. New options for them to pick from appeared as well as an update telling them that the container chamber was filled. Well, they all knew what the first option would do and it would be kind of pointless to go with the second option since they just filled the container chamber. The third option with transferring water from the container to the injector seemed to be the only viable option at this point as they couldn't just not do anything. "W-well, Nanami can always use her heat to warm us up again, right?" she said and turned her head to look over at Nanami and then back to Sigmund. "But we just need to fill these chambers up to the point where the seals will rupture, right? We might not even need to be underwater for very long, but our bodies should be able to tolerate it because of sensei's training. It's really mind over matter. We can't let the cold get to us."

Chapter 2.7: Exam 2

Nanami leans against the wall thinking as the other room filled up "That -Do nothing- button is really bothering me. I keep going over the past tests in my mind. Everything isn't as it seems. I would rather try the do nothing button when we aren't under water. So far nothing is put there not to be used. The first test nothing was as it seemed, the second test was exactly like it seemed. There is no pattern."

She pauses and listens to Nori "Yes I can warm us up in a hurry once we aren't wet, and if need be I can use my wind jutsu to gives us a little more breath. Still I would rather know it does nothing, then us find out when we are trying to hold our breath and not freeze to death." Nanami looks at Nori and Sigmund "If there aren't any objections I will test the -Do nothing- button." Unless told to stop she will push the -Do nothing- button. If either of teammates oppose it, she wouldn't..

Sigmund had nothing to say. Nanami had her eyes set to test that button. He was positive it did absolutely as it said whereas she was sure it did something else. he felt like the option would mess up the screen or even shock them, but he suppose he was willing to take that risk a bit. He gave her a thumbs up as his vote, waiting for the aftermath of her choice.

Nori wasn't too sure whether or not this 'do nothing' button would actually do anything, but it could very well be the key or it could be like what Sigmund was probably thinking and actually do nothing. She turned her head and looked over to Nanami. "I guess it's worth a shot. What have we got to lose? There's a fifty fifty chance of it actually working," she said. "Go ahead and push it."

"So it really didn't do anything," she said and looked up to her teammates. Nanami chuckled "Well good we know what that does now. Its the button you push to check to see if we meet the requirements. The screen said processing, and now there is a fourth option. Now we can transfer between rooms. So right now its one of two things. We need to lower the other room to four million. Because it isn't possible to get four million in each room, so we may just need to lower the other room to four million, and then try the nothing button again, unless it breaks the seals on its own when we do. So the next step is we need to get ready to get wet. Now it will be up for vote. Do we transfer between the other room and this one, or do we fill this room? My vote is for transferring to this room. Sigmund, Nori?"

Chapter 2.7: Exam 2

Sigmund merely shook his head as he contemplated with the options and Nanami's suggestions. He had remained quiet most of the time while they were in this room. While the girls gave senseless votes and unnecessary button pressing, Sigmund had been standing there figuring it all out in his head. He walked right passed them both as he looked over the options and decided to take matters in his own hands now. He clicked the option that said dumb container chamber. He heard the water be released from the room and it seemed like a faucet had stopped running after a minute or two. He glanced at the screen again once both chambers read they were both empty.

"While you two ladies make senseless votes, I believe I figured this out. I advise you both hold your breath because it's going to get pretty nasty in here and very cold. Prepare yourselves. Oh and also, I'll be taking point the rest of this exam. I have no more time to waste. I'm pretty sure other groups are way more ahead of us," he explained as he hit the option to fill the injector chamber, their room. Water had began pouring in, making their feet wet, then ankles, knees, waist, torso, shoulders, and finally their heads. The entire room was filled with cold water ans just before the water hit the ceiling, Sigmund took one big deep breath and waited for the panel to process and give them more options.

Nanami grinned "About time, I was starting to get bored." More or less stating that, that was the whole idea. To push Sigmund to actually do something. She had it mostly figured out, but couldn't let the -Leader- sit around and do nothing. So she annoyed him into actually taking the role. Nanami took a deep breath and activated a small layer of chakra to cover just under her skin, prolonging the freezing to death chance. She also knew if absolutely necessary she could make a small pocket of air for them that would give them another breath to breathe.

Nanami uses the door frame to keep herself close to the control panel, also watching to see what happens next.

Chapter 2.7: Exam 2

Their chamber room had filled up and the three of them held their breath long enough for him to be given new options and the status of the rooms.

Status:
Container Chamber 5 of 5 sangen
Injector Chamber 3 of 3 sangen.

Once he read over the status, he clicked continue and it prompted new messages. He he scanned quickly, swimming while holding his breath. He felt his body start getting numb from the cold water. It didn't help that the air had began cold as well. This definitely was something more intense than their sensei had put them through and he wasn't liking it. He only hoped Nori pulled through once the drained of water. His options popped up.

  • Dump Container Chamber
  • Dump Injector Chamber
  • Nothing

He quickly pressed dump container and even though he couldn't hear the water be drained in the next room, he knew it was done once the screen changed.

  • Fill Container
  • Dump Injector
  • Transfer from Injector to Container
  • Nothing

He transferred from their room to the container room. The room began draining and filling the next room. The moment that process started, he swam up to the top, gasping for air as he continued to kick his feet below him. The water continued to drain and he waited until it was completely drained and he was able to touch the ground with his feet. They were incredibly soaked from head to toe and he began to shiver. This was NOT what he had in mind.

Status:
Container Chamber 3 of 5 sangen.
Injector Chamber 0 of 3 sangen.

  • Fill Container Chamber
  • Fill Injector Chamber
  • Dump Container
  • Transfer from Container to Injector
  • Nothing

Once he caught his breath, he looked at them once again. "We're gonna have to fill this room up again," he warned as he shoved his hands under his armpits. "Nori. That fire. Now," he barked as he began to shiver some more. They needed to warm up again before they started to fill the rooms again.

Nanami makes a handseal and a small circle of flame goes around the outer edge of the room "This will take care of the warmth-h." She was cold none the less "Have to be careful on how much heat the fire prduces. We could warm up to quickly and cause ourselves to pass out, or become sick really quickly. Thats why its along the edges. So we can warm ourselves till we are comfortable and ready to move on. Let me know if it gets to hot." Nanami walks over to one of the lines of fire and sits down humming like she usually does "Good job Leader."

The girl takes several deep breaths, as if practicing to control her breathing for when they go back into the frigid water.

Chapter 2.7: Exam 2

(Hey guys. I am so sorry for the wait. It's just been a tiring week for me.)

Once the water had filled up the chamber, Nori held her breath and swam in place until Sigmund emptied it. She planted her feet on the ground and automatically folded her arms across her chest and tucked her arms away to keep them warm as she shivered. The water was a lot colder than she thought it would be. When she heard him say that they would have to fill the room up again, she slowly nodded her head and hugged herself a little more. Once Nanami made a ring of fire to keep them warm, Nori slowly walked over to her teammates and sat down beside her. She held out her hands in front of her and began to warm them up by the fire. "T-thanks, Nanami," she said in a trembling voice. "I-I hope we don't have to face anyone, either, but we may not have a choice." She looked over towards the closed door off to the side. "I just wonder what other kind of challenges there are going to be."

She stands up, raising her arms and takes her shirt off revealing a workout style undershirt. Nanami smiles at them.

"The shirt was weighing me down a little and it holds onto to much water." She sits back down and places a hand on each of their shoulders "Ready when you two are, even though I hate the thought of another swim in that frigid water. So fill this room up and then flood the other room, causing the pressure to go over its maximum, forcing the seals to break? Does that sum it up Sigmund-kun?"

Chapter 2.7: Exam 2

Nanami looks at the other two and nods "Lets begin.." But before stepping up to the control panel, she gives her teammates each a reassuring hug. With the hug they would feel a bit of Nanami's chakra flow into them. Suddenly the cold from their skin fades.

Nanami wasn't going to let things end here, she most certainly wasn't going to let things go on the way they were either. She was concerned about Sigmund and Nori. She had little knowledge, and anything she tried to do to help backfired.

Nanami turns to face Sigmund and Nori and simply smiles a soft  smile.

She turns to the control panel she presses the button to fill up their room again. The water begins to flood the room, this time it seemed slower. With the external layer of chakra she applied to her teammates they wouldn't feel the cold for a few minutes.

The water was up to halfway. Nanami stood there like a rock. She was waiting for something bad to happen. It seemed like nothing would. The water was up to the ceiling, they began to hold their breath.. Nanami swam back to the control, she hit the button to push water into the other room. The water filled the other room. Then something that caused her to worry happen. Even with the other room filled, this room started to fill back up.

She looked at the screen it said it was processing. She was confused this should have triggered the seals to break.

Nanami sat there for a brief moment. Then she remembered the do nothing button also brought up a processing screen. She slams her fist against it. Suddenly there was a release of pressure as both the doors burst open letting the water rush out.

The water moved quickly taking them through both doors and into the next room or area. Nanami was breathing very hard as air started filling her lungs again "Well doing nothing was the answer in the end.." She started laughing and smiling, happy to have survived that.

She stands and looks around surveying their new surroundings.

[Private to GM: Added a little drama with the seals not breaking, and the Do nothing button having to be used. Made for a good punchline at the end. I hope that is ok?]

One box on a table. The box looks like the same from before.

The door behind them slams shut.

The door in front of them is already locked and closed and has a timer of 10 minutes counting down.

Contents of the box:

Perhaps a scroll, perhaps not.

Challenge Note:

Decide who opens the box or who doesn't. If contents contain a scroll, decide who gets to use it. If contents are nothing, it means you failed to interrogate the jonin back from challenge one.

Depending on your decision, GM will decide the rewards or consequences of your actions.

Chapter 2.7: Exam 2

Sigmund was relieved the water trial was over, but they still had another room and he sighed in frustration. He wasn't pleased that they still had to drag on this exam, but he felt they were close to completion. Once the group entered the next room, once again the door behind them slammed shut, however he noticed it must have been a brand new door because the other one was somehow blown off. He shrugged it off and noticed the box on the table in the center of the room and noticed a timer on the other door of just ten minutes. A note was simple and had read that there could be a jutsu on a scroll for only one person's use or they could perhaps leave it.

He was honestly a selfish person and would vote for him to use it, however that wouldn't be a team captain kinda thing to do so he remained quiet and just thought to himself. If anybody deserved a new tactic, it was Nori, their weakest of the bunch. He read the note again before turning to the girls. "Nori can have it. She needs it the most," he commented.

And we all have our strengths and weaknesses. If there is a scroll in there Nori can have it. But not because she is the weakest, because it would be enjoyable to see her put up a good fight against you Sigmund. I did mean everything I said before about you being strong."

She pauses..

"I do hope to get the chance to fight against one of you in the finals. Win or lose it will be fun!" She started to become a little more upbeat thinking about the battles to come. She walks over to Sigmund and leans against the wall near him "The jutsu may be a trap too. Personally what fun is a jutsu if you didn't train it and make it your own. Being given it would defeat the purpose, and any rewards offered in this place seem to backfire."

Chapter 2.7: Exam 2

Nori was thankful that the whole water challenge incident was over. In all honesty, could it have gotten worse than having to swim in below degree temperature? At least they were able to move on now. Once they entered the next room, there was a small table with a box on top of it. None of them knew what it was at first until they got close enough to read what the note had said. Her eyes skimmed over it. "So there's a fifty fifty chance that this box may or may not have a scroll in it. Why put it here if it has nothing in it?" she said aloud before she looked up to the new door with a timer. She folded her arms and tucked her hands away to keep them warm before she looked up to her teammates. When she heard Sigmund mention that she should get the scroll because she needed it, Nori scowled but decided not to say anything. She had good reason to believe he only said that because she was the weakest. She let out a sigh and looked away from him.

"If there is a scroll in there, I will be happy to take it if you guys are insisting that I do. It's just...why would they leave a scroll here for us to take and then give us a timer to see who gets it? Did they think that we would fight over who deserves it more than the others?" Nori asked and looked back up to the two of them. "Who knows? Maybe it doesn't matter if we succeeded the first challenge or not. There could be a scroll in there or there couldn't be a scroll in there. I think it's more based on the idea of thinking like a team and deciding who would best make use of the scroll if there's one in there. However, we don't even know what kind of jutsu it even is to begin with. It could be completely useless to all three of us."

Another is wait till the last second and then open the box. Or not open the box at all and see what happens."

She stops roaming for a moment "I mean so far this entire thing has been a team challenge, you would think it odd only one person gets the prize right?"

The team took up the whole 10 minutes to deliberate about a simple box. Because they were the type of team to just sit around and talk and not take action fast enough, the timer reached zero and the box remained closed. The final door swung open and a Jonin had entered the room with some blankets for their warmth. He looked at all three of them. "I'm surprised none of you opened the box. However, your team is the last one to complete the trial," he gave them the bad news, practically claiming they were the runts of the bunch. After handing out the blankets, he left the room.
