Breakwater By Evening
Massilia is well known for the great lighthouse, the Pharo, named after the even bigger one in Alexandria. It can be seen for many miles at night. There are also lesser lights, which are just magical lanterns hung on poles, set out every night in key places.
They line the breakwater every night, to prevent boats from crashing into it in the dark. Each evening, a group of young lantern tenders, all human, set them out.
The combination of the light shining down from the Pharo, and the lights on the poles, make the breakwater fairly well lit. Breakwater Harbor, and the Breakwater itself, form the favorite outdoor night spot for many Masillians, and as the sun goes down, food and drink vendors, and street entertainers, begin to appear.
It is especially popular with the lower classes of the city, because it is free and accessible. The wealthy prefer the secluded waterfront on the south side of the harbor, but for the rest of the city, the Breakwater is the favorite place.
Tonight there is a street performer with a monkey, and a vendor selling a weak fruity wine concoction, and another selling bread and cheese snacks. The monkey attracts a lot of attention. And this is where people are gathered, quite a few, of varied walks of life.
There is also a squad of Orcs, huddled together at the south end of the Breakwater Harbor, trying to look important.
