Mark All as Read

Hey there,

I follow several games in this website; however I'm not a member of all of them; in the past it was possible marking everything as read regardless of being a member of the game or not, and that's not possible in the new site.

Is it possible to restore such function?

Thanks!

Assuming you're referring to the "Mark all as read" function not working, you may need to clear your cookies, and log back in again and do the "Mark all as read".

Typically it's a cookie issue when that function doesn't work.

I started having an issue with that today as well for a single game that I lurk on. I have been using the responsive site exclusively for the past year, so it should not be carry over from the old site. To make sure, I cleared the rpol cookies. I still can not get the mark as read to work. There are no threads that I have access to with unread messages, but the game insists there is something new, and will not clear it.

If this happens to be a game that you've viewed on both mobile and desktop versions, try marking all as read on the mobile specifically.

I've been having intermittent problems for a few days where I'll read something on my mobile, then when I look on the desktop it's flagged as new, but hitting 'mark all as read' on the desktop isn't clearing it. Hitting that on the mobile -does- clear it on both mobile and desktop (for me, at least).

For my case, I only use desktop. Single computer, single browser (firefox).

From out of left field and undoubtedly a long shot ... do you have third party cookie blocking set up in Firefox ?  Thinking perhaps you'd specifically allowed cookies from r.rpol.net, but it might now need plain ol' rpol.net ?

I've been testing the feature on different devices and browsers, but it won't work. I also cleared the cookies and repeated the tests.

And answering to the latest question, I don't have any special set-up in my system.

I remember the old website used to "forget" that certain threads were already read when entering the dashboard from another device, but I think this isn't the same thing, because in the end you could mark all as read.

In reply to Skald (msg # 7):

long shot, but actually reasonable target for me. I have been known to 'tweak' settings like that that have annoyed me someway. But no. There is no block or override entries configured.

I think this is the 'other' problem (not cookies), where a thread that I do not have access to has a new message, and mark all as read is ignoring that thread (since no access), but the main page is still seeing the unread. There were a few posts about that recently, and it was supposed fix. The difference here could be that I am a lurker in that game.

If requested by the devs I could post a link to a game here at rpol, that gives me such error.

Mods specifically request you not to ! <grins>  Against site rules to name games outside of Wanted ads ... as previously it was most frequently abused by overly eager GM's looking for yet another spot to advertise their games.

But there is a  right way to do it - please send an rMail referencing the problem and with the name of the erroring game - to start off just tick the To/CC Moderators box & hit compose and we'll pass on those details to jase.  :>
