Visible Character Sheets

OK, I know this is a niche request, low priority, let me just state that at the outset. I am not saying that Jase needs to get to this in the next update, but I think it could be something that would be easy to change at some point:

Have a toggle which makes character sheets viewable to game members, ether for the whole game or preferably for each sheet.

I know, there are workarounds that can do this fairly well, putting the key info in the profile and things, but it would be useful in some situations. As an example, there are many GM's who don't want anyone who is not part of the game seeing what is going on, cuts down on unwanted applications and things. Adult games are another example, the profile is public so you cant put anything of an adult nature in it. The reason that a togele for each sheet is preferable is that way it is possible, when combine with existing toggles, to have some sheets visible while not allowing players to edit them. So, if this is not a huge coding problem can we throw it onto the bottom of the docket somewhere? (Yes, I know the docket is like 30 pages long, as I said, low priority.)

Re: Visible Character Sheets

Not quite sure I understand what you are asking for there - do you mean have the option to make them viewable to all players in the game?  As opposed to just the player and the DM as it is now?

Re: Visible Character Sheets

There's already a way to do this if the GM desires - create a public thread for character sheets, and copy and paste.

Re: Visible Character Sheets

And, with that method, you can select a group which is not visible to non-members, and conceal the sheet from some players and not others by using Private Lines in the posts.  If you post the sheets as yourself, then the players will not be able to edit them.  If you post them using the players' characters then they can edit them.

Re: Visible Character Sheets

+1

I would like to see this, and I've been complaining about it in games with open characters for a long time. I know it can be more or less accomplished either by putting the sheet in the Description or with threads and so on, but since that's also true even for sheets that are private to the player and GM, why do we have the functionality at all?

While the kinds of complicated access that bigbadron mentions probably wouldn't be easily feasible with the sheets, I think having basic support for the two most common options -- GM and player only, and everyone can see them -- would be really nice, and probably a pretty simple thing to code.

Re: Visible Character Sheets

Wouldn't use it myself, but it wouldn't worry me if it was there, so I guess that's +0. ;>

In the interim, along with Shanarra and bigbadron's suggestions, you might consider ...

a) hosting the character sheets on your own webpage, so they're all visible to players who follow the links.  Editable only by GM, though.

b) post the character sheet in the character Description (with pre tags around it to preserve the formatting).  Viewable by everyone from the Cast page, and editable by both player and GM.

Re: Visible Character Sheets

We currently use the workaround of having a public thread.  +1 to this idea.

Re: Visible Character Sheets

The thread idea works well enough, I think, but I can't really remember an occasion when I wanted my character sheet visible to other players.  Certain parts of it perhaps, but not the whole sheet.

Re: Visible Character Sheets

That would mean +0 from you, Brianna, wouldn't it?

+0 from me anyway. It seems useful and easy enough to implement, probably, but as I don't use the character sheet feature anyway...
