There is nothing more frightening than being plucked from your existence to be dropped into a game for the gods.

But that is where you find yourself, deep within a labyrinth of tunnels with no way out by mortal means (magical or otherwise).

24 characters chosen by the gods facing off against each other within a network of inescapable tunnels.

The more people that die the stronger you get. Last man standing wins.

You come suddenly to your senses and find yourself standing on a floor that is like nothing you have seen before, perfectly smooth stone-like yet different somehow, surrounded by smooth walls that run a good 30 feet straight up into a ceiling of similar material. Every twenty feet or so along the wall a torch burns in a bracket and you can see that the tunnel walls run straight until they end in either a corner or abrupt wall. All of your equipment, possessions, and gold are near to you but it seems odd in this place.

"WELCOME COMPETITORS"

A voice booms out from nowhere and everywhere at the same time.

"YOU TWENTY FOUR HAVE BEEN CHOSEN BY THE GODS TO ENGAGE IN A BATTLE OF MIND, MAGIC, AND MUSCLE"

While the voice booms you take some time to collect your things and prepare for whatever this is. Maybe you look around but you don't see anyone else for the moment.

"THOUGH YOU ARE MERE MORTALS, ONE OF YOU SHALL SURVIVE THE OTHERS AND ASCEND FAR MORE RAPIDLY THAN ANY OTHER HERO HAS."

Among your things you find two objects that you know never belonged to you. There is a gem that glows unnaturally from multiple facets, one of which is brighter and a different color than the others, and a map. The map looks to be of a giant interconnecting of maze-like tunnels and on it you see a dot of the same color that caught your eye on the gem.

"HOPEFULLY YOU ARE SMART ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND THAT YOU ARE ALL TRAPPED HERE WITHIN THE LABYRINTH  AND THAT YOU MUST FIGHT EACH OTHER TO THE DEATH UNTIL THERE IS ONLY ONE LEFT STANDING. EVERY MINUTE THE LABYRINTH WILL GROW SMALLER FORCING YOU TO FACE EACH OTHER OR DIE. GOOD LUCK."

With that the booming voice ends and not even an echo of sound can be heard.

As you've been moving around you realize that the dot on the map corresponds to your own location in the labyrinth but you've yet to discover what exactly the gemstone does. Regardless you realize that it would be wise to keep both of these valuable items if you are to survive whatever is coming.
