NWOD or COD which one is played more?

I realize I don't really have a preference between the two.  Is one more liked than the other, particularly in terms of mage games?

NWOD or CWOD which one is played more?

By CWOD, do you mean classic world of Darkness or Chronicles of Darkness?

chronicles of darkness.  not OWOD.  I updated and changed the title to just COD, I guess I didn't need the W.

Well, there aren't really the best metrics out there on the topic to be honest. The best we have is some very vague statistics from DriveThruRPG and Onyx Path, which both mention increased growth in sales from the CoD line. However this should be taken with a grain of salt given increased growth of RPGs in general as of late, and, well, the COD/2E books being newer. On this site in particular there seem to be quite a few GMs who prefer NWOD over CoD, but that does seem to be shifting over time. Most Mage the Awakening games I've seen on this site start as NWoD and end up switching to 2nd Edition due to demand. The fact that CoD has been less supplement focused in their business model also means many are loathe to switch due to 'less content' which is probably part of this divide.

That kind of leave us in a somewhat awkward transitory period. The new editions are out, generally better regarded, and overall more popular, but there are those who don't want to change since they have more supplemental information.

I'm more just looking for info on what people play on rpol.  I am working on a mage game to run, and I wanted to know if NWOD or Cod would attract more players.

I'd say CoD given what I've seen then. On a general level, the older a system or edition is the harder it is to find players. It's the same reason why 5E D&D campaigns get filled up very quickly while much older editions have a more limited play pool. Whenever someone's interested in Mage the Awakening on a casual level, they naturally gravitate towards the Newer Edition since, well, if they look it up on google 2E's the first one to show up.

That being said, if you prefer the older edition, that is a logical enough reason to go with it. Mage games in particular can thrive with a smaller group, so if you don't mind going that direction it's something to consider. I personally prefer 2E, but in the end it comes down to what you want to run!

I don't really have a big preference either way, since there aren't a lot of large conceptual changes.  my game idea doesn't really change at all between editions, either.
