IC: Beta Test of LitRPG Inspired Diceless System
Hi all, I wanted to check to see if there was interest in a game based on a custom diceless system that aims to recreate the feel of LitRPG stories. The game will be set in a fantasy world. To keep with the LitRPG tradition, PCs will be people from Earth who agreed to test a new fantasy MMO without reading the fine print, and find themselves transported to the fantasy world in new bodies.
This would be a test in two ways:
1) Testing the system itself to see what works and what doesn't work, where it breaks down, etc.
2) I've been off RPOL for about a year due to frequent migraines. They seem to have gotten themselves more or less under control now, so I want to run a casual game to see if I can get back into more RPOL activity without having them flare up.
For both of those reasons the game may have times when the game goes slowly, or is on hiatus for some time.
To give you a feel for the system, it's classless and characters get better by trying to do tasks. Many skills can be learned simply by trying the associated task. In fact part of the beta test will be seeing what skills come up in play so I have a list of skills and their effects.
There's a point economy aspect to the game as you burn characteristic points to perform above and beyond your normal abilities. This gives it a bit of a puzzle feel to working out how to succeed at encounters using the points at your disposal.
I don't need a lot of players. The system tends toward overpowered characters (as most LitRPG stories tend, too). I think the progression will be slow enough to be interesting, but that's one of the things to test.
