IC: An ICON game as Military Academy Students

I have an idea for an adventure in which the players are new students at a military academy during a time of political tensions between three nations.  The game would follow the students through their first year at the academy (over the course of four seasons) as they navigate their school work, social pressures, and practical field excursions to surrounding communities and cities during uncertain times.

This could work with a lot of different systems, but the one I like for this story is ICON by Tom Bloom out of Massif Press.  The game is currently in play-testing and is therefore available for free at itch.io by the author.

ICON uses a mash-up of narrative rules similar to John Harper's Blades in the Dark system and tactical combat rules similar to Dnd4e.  It pulls a lot of inspiration from games like Final Fantasy Tactics, Dragon's Dogma, etc. The system itself is still very much a work in progress, but as of now it's essentially content complete and ready to play.

Any interest in a game like this?  If so, I can put together documents for world info and character info and get things moving.  Thanks!

Provided the expected post frequency isn't more than a couple times a week, I'd be interested. I don't know the system but I'm always eager to learn new ones.

ICON is a system that I've been very interested in trying out! Solid choice to go with, and while I typically don't take to academy settings, military academy hits a different note, I think.

What sort of narrative tone/feel are you hoping for?

Great question! I should have put that in the original post.

I suppose the tone I'm looking for is fantastical but grounded.  It's a world of magic and gods, but the biggest things moving and shaking things are the people and the nations.  More serious than an average Saturday morning cartoon, less serious than a war documentary.  I recognize there's a lot of in-between there, and that can be a balance the groups finds during play.

I am not looking for something particularly grim-dark or dour. In terms of content, I usually aim around high PG-13 / low R for my games, pending the comfort level of the players, of course (this, I believe, would make the game Mature here). With characters in this game essentially equating to high school/early university students, however, I wouldn't expect the game to be particularly nasty or gory.

Bit of a ramble there - I hope I answered your question adequately!

Three potential players is enough interest, I think!
I'll get working on the game and post in Wanted - Players when it's ready to go.  Thanks all!
