V20 elders in a modern era game

I had a thought come to me about a possible game idea, and I was curious to see if anyone had any ideas for it, or possible ways it wouldn't work.

The game would follow a small group of elder kindred who awaken in the modern era, coming from an unusual torpor.  They would be confronted with a time period they have no knowledge of and a city already fully populated with vampires who have no knowledge of them.

The idea would be to explore the difficulties individually powerful vampires would face in a world that is far more capable of killing them than ever before.  Even elders can die to packs of vampires, or concentrated gunfire.  So they would have to basically try to find a way to survive before the city discovers who they are, and comings howling after them.

Was thinking characters in the middle elder range, not methuselahs but definitely centuries old.  Maybe cap disciplines at 6 or so, but allow them to be from a variety of eras and locations.  Sort of envisioned a viking gangrel and an Arabian lasombrah next to a crusader ventrue or a renaissance toreador.  something like that.

I also considered some sort of blood magic at play that keeps them working together, like an enforced vaulderie or something along those lines.

Sounds like fun especially if they predate the Camarilla and Sabbat. Count me in

I like the thought of this.  And I have the V20 book at home, which makes it easier.

Potentially interested, there is some interesting roleplaying potential here.

I think one thing you'd have to do is strictly enforce skill rolls for any technological item, interaction, or understanding. Like no matter how smart the PCs are, they aren't going to understand how cell phones, let alone smart phones, work without some time and study.

I also think more abstract descriptions of technological items would be helpful to enforce a separation of character knowledge and player knowledge. If we the players aren't entirely sure what you're describing/saying, it'll be easier to portray our characters that way as well.

Just a few ideas to contribute.

That sounds like a really neat roleplaying challenge.

One advantage they would probably need (either right away or as their first order of business) is a common language, probably the one that's spoken where they awaken.

It could be that they each separately fell prey to a magical trap that held them in stasis until this present release, either because someone took it down or it simply wore out. It might or might not have been intended strictly against vampires.

I already have a plan of how to do it.  I wasn't sure if I was going to commit to run it.  My main problem now is how to devise the stats to make the players powerful but still vulnerable, equal but with room for a wide variation among them.

If you are still puzzling over this plan I am both interested and have considerable experience both playing in and running high powered games with in some cases dozens of elder characters.  Any questions you might still have about power balance I am sure I can help you work through but in a general case avoid the temptation to hand out extra freebie points, instead hand out large quantities of XP, likely in the 250-300 range for the power level you are looking for.

Another good trick is to only allow 50% of that XP to be spent in any one section of the sheet, this will almost always be disciplines, the other 50% scattered about in various sections.

Following V20 rules, elders xp given at start range from 250 to 600.

I'd be interested in playing as well.

Still down for this if OP wants to run it! Maybe 300 xp at the start, but also with a restrictioon of not being allowed to take dots in any "modern" skills (such as computer use, obviously, but also maybe no more than a few dots in something like medicine), and maybe saying no more than six dots in anything?
