Labyrinth Lord Sandbox HACK?

I am an ancient role-player, an old fart in this gaming world. I saw our rules go from paperback pulp books to now hard-cover masterpieces of stone. I used to have all the rules prior to 1990 memorized in my head. But then the bottom fell out of rpg and I moved to New Orleans (where they role-play in the streets). Since then played skeletal rules like Risus and FU, Donjon and “The Pool”.

Yet I am feeling an old school renaissance for my B/X Red Box, otherwise known today as Labyrinth Lord, so does anyone here want to once again embrace and perhaps ‘love’ The Keep on the Borderlands? Using Labyrinth Lord as a constellation?

I want to emphasize that this will be a very rules-light version of the 1981 rules.

I could be interested, if the posting pace is not too harsh (like 3-4 times at day).

Played some nice LL and S&W games in the past, but never B2! :)

I see it as a game that will be fantastically casual. Surely us that played in 1981 have lives that always demand.

The same is true with rules. I come from sandbox free games so I believe if you have to look up a rule; it's a rule you should not use!

I'm extremely interested. I'm too young to have ever played Keep on the Borderlands, but I have read it. Don't know if that would be an issue.

I've played in several OSR games here on rpol and really enjoyed all of them.

To get back to everyone, my further thoughts. We have four players and I am really pointing toward a story oriented adventure, not a lot of dice, not crunchy at all. With a very relaxed posting rate, I am thinking 2-3 times per week. To solve this I usually create a thread with character development or fan fiction.

Once again I must stress, any rule you have to look up may not be a rule you should use.

Game?

Fine for me.

More than rules I am more picky towards bookkeeping.
Not a big fan of encumbrance, in terms of equipment.

But I can live with that.

In reply to RPGuru92 (msg # 12):

Not even the ceiling has fans of encumbrance.

They say they live under small mushrooms in misty woods, but they exist.

In my own hacked game I use to simplify a lot:
- weapon damage for class (light/medium/heavy)
- only special ammos are counted, normal ammos go to 0 only after a series of missed hits (usually 3 missed hits and your quiver is empty)
- general adventuring equipment a la Dungeon World
