Sort of. I wrote the game based on a combination of inspirations from GTA V and Saints Row 3-4 (although more 3 than 4). I have a bunch of parody names for a number of places. A thing that annoys me is that I will cue in on a name for something before some other thing takes it. I ran a game centered around the Sands of Time far before Prince of Persia ever latched onto it.
I digress. The first parody locale is called Broad City (had the idea for the name before the show because Chicago is apparently the City of Broad Shoulders). It's a bit of a combination of Las Vegas and Chicago. Frank Ridley even let me use a picture of Honest Gil as the President of Murica so long as I didn't use the words Honest, Gil, or Fulbright because those could be latched onto by represent.us, but he still had the rights to his image (more or less).
Broad City is the most relevant locale, but there's also Fort Patton (Knox) Lala City (Sort of
all of Urban Southern California, not just Las Angeles). I also have generalized caricatures of areas in the Deep South such as New Orleans (Nawlins) Florida and its indistinguishable beach cities, and of course, the part of Nointernetland I grew up in, Arkansas (although good on me, I've been living in one of the Internet capable Interstate Towns for about 7 years now). I don't have a name for the state or city of New York yet. Might do for one if a player's history puts their origin there.
So yeah, Murica is the nation the game takes place within--Sort of like regular America but with higher kill counts on their murderous/hate crime/negligent manslaughter sprees--But the game doesn't particularly care about that. The idea is that the players are anti-heroes à la those video games.
These rules will be followed though, even if you don't necessarily follow them to a t when you play the noted video games:
quote:
if a game exists for the sole purpose of describing or playing out graphic sex in conjunction with crime, cruelty, or violence, it will not be permitted. Likewise, games are not allowed which exist for the sole purpose of the graphic depiction of:
- crime and gore;
- ethnic, religious, or racial intolerance;
- sexual assault;
- torture;
- dehumanizing murder; and/or
- the abuse of children.
That is to say that while violence and death will be a part of the game, we're more likely to treat it like a joke/parody/testing game mechanics than glorification of it or social commentary.
