Lamentations of the Flame Princess (LotFP) is a roleplaying game from the Old School Revival wave (a streamlined re-imagining of the early editions of D&D), geared towards horrific and weird fantasy adventures in the vein of Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, Clive Barker and so on.
I'd like to run a short game set in a pseudo-historical 17th century Europe, during the Thirty Years War. You'd play as mercenaries, deserters, misfits and social outcasts, who roam the war-torn land in search of riches. The game would have bleak, grim atmosphere, with mature themes (but not adult).
The system is easy to learn, and the book is available for free (
