Eclipse Phase 2E

I gained access to the playtest rules for the second edition of Eclipse Phase thanks to the kickstarter, and I'm itching to try it out.

I start by saying I never played the first edition, and don't know the setting (aside from what I gathered from the available material), and I'd like to play the introductory adventure presented in the Eclipse Phase 2E QSR.

If the test goes well, I will gladly keep the game going.

Eclipse Phase isn't really a great setting to jump into without doing your research.  It's weird in a lot of mostly awesome, mostly horrifying ways.  I'd really encourage you to read up on the setting a lot before you get into it.  There are some good podcast series from RPPR and others that can help, too.  The fact that the PDFs for first edition are all free under creative commons also helps.

It doesn't really leap out at you from the books, but Eclipse Phase often wants to be "Delta Green in space".  There are other ways to run it, often by focusing on Pandora gates, cloak and dagger type spycraft, or by turning it into Shadowrun on Mars but most of the published scenarios lend themselves more to that slow CoC-esque creeping horror vibe.

Personally, I'm always interested in EP, but due to some personal issues I won't be joining any games until late next month.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look them all up.

I have many sources of inspiration myself for the game, and I played CP2020 and CoC many years in parallel, wondering many times how merging the two would have worked.

I'm still studying the setting a bit with what I find, but I thought diving into the game is the best way to get how it works.

The eternal lament of EP is that it's really, really hard to get into because the setting is so complex.  You can probably get into it by playing it, but you'd have to be a little careful how you set the game.  There are parts of it that are very CP2020 and parts of it that are entirely not like it.

At a minimum, trawl through this page for stuff like "10 Things You Should Know About Eclipse Phase" and similar stuff that's meant to help people get into the game quickly:

http://www.eclipsephase.com/resources

There are also half a dozen published modules available (again for free under creative commons) that can also give you some insights.  Just ignore the mechanics and you'll be fine.

Eclipse Phase 2E

Depending on the depth of your background in Sci Fi literature Eclipse Phase is actually quite obvious as the conglomerate of ideas from several of the more popular classic and semi modern sci fi settings.

If you know most of the parts putting together the whole from the information provided in the playtest and introductory adventure should be fairly easy.  That said if you come to Sci Fi primarily through TV, or other games then a bit of research will be a good thing.  All the first edition eclipse phase material is available for free on the company web site and the setting data should be exactly the same in 2nd edition.

Either way I would be interested in seeing how the new system fixes some of the problems with the first version and how those fixes actually play out in a game.

Eclipse Phase 2E

I've been studying a little following your suggestions, and I think I'm starting to get the feel of the game.

I've been enjoying the 1E book a lot, and I'm toying with an idea for a campaign.

As soon as I finish putting down the introductory scenario, I'll post an ad for the gane, and I'll notify it here as well.

I'm glad to see there's some involved interest. And to answer Hendell, I've a bit of a mixed sci-fi culture from TV, literature and comics.
