IC: Dog Town RPG

For those that haven't heard of Dog Town RPG (which is free on the publisher's/creator's website), we're talking New York 70s gritty crime rpg. Think of things like the well known GTA game serie, tv shows like The Wire or movies like Heat, Scarface and the likes. I've been curious about trying out DT for some time, but I've been held back by some of its flaws: it's custom-made "split system" is a little difficult to run table top because it involves lots of math. On the other hand, I think it would work well as a PbP.

The gist of things would be the following: characters would start as down on their luck felons who are either just fresh out of prison or who have really hit the gutter. I'll run a short scenario so we can all get used to the system and try things out, and if fun is being had and interest is there, I'd be game to open up the world to something more sandbox-ish.

It goes without saying that the game would be Adult since we'll be dealing with very grim subjects and themes.

No experience would be needed with the system or the game itself. I'm approaching this as a teaching experience for myself and the players... and a very long writing exercice :)

So, anyone interested in being a lowly criminal trying to eek a living in a fictional New York 1970s? Heroin, coke and bad Vietnam flashbacks for everyone garanteed!

IC: Dog Town RPG

I've requested Dog Town or something like it a couple of times on RPoL, with no success, so I'm interested. That said, the system is clearly one of those that can only be played as-intended by one person on the planet - its creator. Wrangling the rules is an uphill battle all the way.

It does seem so, but every time I pick up that RPG, it strikes me as a crap covered diamond ;) I know there's a really nice nugget in there somewhere. And concerning the system; I like the idea behind it, but I think the book could have REALLY done with a few proofreader and a proper editor. There's lots of typos in the main rule section, meaning the rules themselves don't actually work if you follow them ;) But yea, I think I've got a good enough handle on the system to run it.

Odds are, we'll run a very short scenario first to test things out then I'll open up the world to something a little more sandbox-ish; work in something that will probably be half rpg, half "strategy" game.

If everyone's still interested (all 3 of you who expressed interested) I'll start setting things up.

I'll set up the game thread today so we can all start to discuss some things. I'll post the link here.

Re: IC: Dog Town RPG

here we go: link to another game

I've started building up the threads. It isn't quite there yet, but we can at least move the discussion there.

See you on the flip side!
