A sorcerer, warforged, and guy with immovable rods ...

... walk into a bar ...

Been thinking of a zany fantasy game where we just have fun with it, and maybe poke fun AT it. I wouldn't want it to be ALL about humor, but semi-satirical, like the Robert Aspirin Myth books or the Piers Anthony Xanth books. Those still had the whole questing thing, but they had an irreverent, humorous angle to them as well.

It would require the right players. Humor always seems tough, especially on PBP, and I think I'd want to do this one a bit more sandboxy, which is ALSO tough on PBP.

Would keep the rules on the lighter side. Needs to be open-ended, so maybe FATE?

Thoughts? Interest?

I second that system recommendation.

Yeah, I can see how risus for the tone. It tends to get a little too zany though, I don't really like the mechanic, and I've never seen a risus game get past the first scene on rpol. The latter may speak to the difficulty of pulling off the kind of thing I'm talking about.

I feel like 13th Age is appropriate for a fantasy based comedy game. Simplistic rules, run it with or without icons (can just reskin them to be more comedic or just make all their background into myth & rumor. Who said the Three aren't actually a man behind a curtain?) The One Unique Thing is already primed for comedic things.

At least that's my two cents.

I'm not sure if the game is still out or available, but, Tales from the Floating Vagabond was a mix of everything.

In reply to Mrrshann618 (msg # 7):

There's a quickstart adventure available for the forthcoming new edition. It's not free, though.

Re: A sorcerer, warforged, and guy with immovable rods ...

I find that most of the games that try to incorporate the interesting and or quirky things directly into the system mechanics actually detract from the players ability to just have fun with the setting and interpretation of it.

It might be better to use a simple and direct set of system mechanics like D&D 5e and just have the world elements and RP style be pushed a bit in the less serious direction, then if you need system mechanics for something they are (at least on an OOC level) clearly understood and simple with an obvious mechanism for use.
