Ondrea realised what was going on "STOP STOP, DON'T SEND ANYONE ELSE DOWN IT'S NOT SAFE."

Stoney disappears from sight but not sound as he rolls, bounces, and swears during his decent.  An ominous *CRASH* of metal signals that he reached the bottom, whether in tack or not is unknown.

OOC: I know at one point Larz had a torch light, but I thought he gave it to one of the smaller lads because he needs both hands for his sword.

In reply to Larzander Gunderzen (msg # 237):

Larz placed his frame in between the thing and his friends with his sword drawn. "Any bright ideas? Or hack and slash until the things is dead?" he asked. Though his words seemed light-hearted, the tone in his voice said the barbarian was becoming increasingly more angered with their current situation..

OOC: Larz working himself into a rage beast.

Re: The Northern Passage

Without warning, the slick, jet-black entity whipped several of its protuberances toward you.  As you quickly discover, it was a test strike, checking for weaknesses and is easily deflected by Larz swirling his sword around.  The next time it moves in, it may not be such a calculated move.

Ondrea whipped out her hammer in a downward swing towards one of the tentacles. She seems to hit home, but it is hard to tell if she has wounded the thing given its spongy nature.

Ondrea Avalor rolled 23 using 1d20+6.  Attack.
Ondrea Avalor rolled 20 using 1d10+10.  Damage.

If there is enough room, Stoney stabs at the ooze with the to of his hammer.  Clearly his small arms weren't long enough to connect with the "black ooze of decimation".

Hit AC 9...assume a miss.  Didn't roll damage

Re: The Northern Passage

Stoney indeed misses his attack as the blob like creature retracts its pseudo-appendage as he swings.  Ondrea manages to connect with a sickening *SQUISH* but the strange creature appears unfazed (to be fair, it has no face of any kind so judging a reaction would be near impossible).  As she pulls her hammer back to striking position again she hears a strange hissing sound.  Glancing over, her eyes go wide as the section of hammer that connected with the beast was bubbling and foaming; small bits of metal could be seen falling from the face of her now deeply pockmarked weapon.

Re: The Northern Passage

Trying to connect with her weapon again Ondrea seems to miss the first and potentially the second, it is hard to know with this beast. She was ready to drop her hammer once it became unusable and to draw her sword from it's scabbard.

Ondrea Avalor rolled 9 using 1d20+6.  Attack 2.
Ondrea Avalor rolled 14 using 1d20+6.  Attack 1.

Ondrea Avalor rolled 20 using 1d10+10.  Damage.

Stoney unphased by Ondrea's dripping hammer, again tries to poke at the black death with the end of his hammer. Once again his arms are shorter than he anticipates.

"Maybe I need to take a drink before trying again."  He mumbles under his breath.

Rolled even worse this round.  Hit AC 14..does that hit?? Did it?  Did it?

Re: The Northern Passage

As Ondrea and Stoney attempt to hold the creature off, Larz focuses his attention on the tunnel they entered through, hoping for signs of a handhold of any fashion.

Both Ondrea and Stoney connect (AC 6 so Ondrea only hit with her first attack) with enough force that the creature seems to splatter, leaving two small puddles and the original larger one.  As they pull back, both of their hammers are foaming and hissing, more chunks of metal falling off and leaving the hammers' service marred deeply.  That's when you notice the treasure horde is suffering a similar fate as cups, helmets and coins begin to melt and ooze together in small, golden pools.

Ondrea will try and grab what she can now the threat seems to be gone. If she sees any weapons she will make a grab for those or just handfuls of coins or gems.

In reply to Ondrea Avalor (msg # 247):

Shouting up to those above them.
"It appears the black thing is not alive anymore.  "Define alive."   Stoney says to himself.

Stabbing it a few mor times with the flat top part of his hammer.  "Just for good measure, I want to make sure this thing is done.  After all my hammer is nearly finished.  One more good swing and the head could fly off the handle."

Once assured the thing is dead, Stoney carefully looks around for a new weapon, or something to remember this battle.
"I have heard rumors of acids, or gel's being sentient, but never have I seen one in person, nor do I hope to again!"  Taking a moment to breather, and take a long drink.

"Now lets find a way back up, or through the black ooze of death.  You coming down?"

As Stoney and Ondrea attempt to locate some sort of foot or hand hold to begin climbing, Larz draws their attention as he begins to shout...

"Somebody figure out something soon...the damn thing isn't dead!"

Turning around, you see the three separate "puddles" are all beginning to move and form into three different black blobs.

With a quick jerk of his head, Stoney sees the ooze, and grabs the rope. double checking that everyone down here can make it out on their own.  confident they can, he starts up.
"Lets go!  Boris hold on tight!  Then he starts up the rope, as fast as he can."

If you needed any rolls to climb up the rope.

Ondrea covered the others as they began to climb, she watched the puddles forming and the tried to use a torch to burn them while she waited for her go on the rope.

"Come on up!" Boris additionally braced the rope, knowing that there would be additional weight. The silk rope could take 700 pounds of weight, he didn't think Stoney and the others would be too much for it. He hoped.

Re: The Northern Passage

Stoney, given his height and weight, moves rather quickly up the rope, allowing Larz to follow rapidly.  As Ondrea turns to take her place, one of the smaller puddles lashes out at her, wrapping itself firmly around her left boot.  Almost immediately the smell of burning material assailed her nostrils as the boot itself begins to dissolve and slide off in pieces.

Ondrea moves a way from the puddles as fast as she can and once everyone else was on their way or at the top of the rope she starts up as well. Once at the top she looks at the others "Where to now ?"
