Be Still, Oh Silent Night

In reply to Ondrea Avalor (msg # 104):

Stoney is slow to rise.  Not sure where the adventure will take him, he wants to enjoy the comforts of a warm bed as long as he can.
Waking up, trimming and making himself proper, he decides to mumble some prayers.
Prayers to many of the Gods he has learned about through is studies while training.
Grabbing his gear, he sets off to breakfast with the group.

"Morning.  I don't know about you, but I didn't sleep well last night.  I fear I might have caught a sickness.  Sweats, dreams, etc.  I could use a good breakfast & drink.  Boris, in the light of day, you clean up and look like a proper little person!"
Grabbing a fistful of food, and not mining his manners shovels some inches mouth.
"What did I miss?"  Mutters barely understandable, with the food in his mouth.

In reply to Stoney Applesmith (msg # 105):

Pain and lack of restful sleep had Larzander in a bit of a mood. The large warrior stumbled down the last stair or two into the common room but managed to catch himself before he face planted. Righting himself he stood for a moment trying to make sure his feet were indeed under him.

Convinced that he was alright he walked further into the common room and right up to the bar. "A pint if you please." he said addressing the female innkeeper, laying a sliver on the bar. When he had his ale he took a long drink and wiped his mouth on his sleeve.

Then he turned to see where the others in the group were sitting and walked slowly to the table. "Morning all." he said as he was about to sit down. Seeing Ondrea the barbarian scrunched his forehead. "M'Lady" he said, attempting a proper bow,   before taking a seat.

"I feel like a caravan of wagons rolled over me." he said taking another long draw of the ale. "Too many dreams to sleep, it's going to be a long day."

In reply to Stoney Applesmith (msg # 105):

Ondra has begun to play with the handle of her hammer, before adding.

"I to did not sleep as well as was to be expected, but it had been a changing few days."

"So Mr Underhill wishes to join us for the hunt and I would be glad to have him along, shall we depart after breakfast ? I need to collect my arrow's from last night and Mr Underhill mentioned some caltrops so while we undertake that task perhaps Laz and Stoney could search the bodies we left on the road ?"

She looked for someone to take their order for breakfast or she approched the bar to see what was available.

In reply to Larzander Gunderzen (msg # 106):

Boris nodded thoughtfully at her story. He sensed that in addition to her beauty, she seemed like a genuine and honest person. It was inconceivable that she would try to make a fool of him for amusement or some other purpose. What was going on here?

Had something happened to rob his memory? Had he forgotten a sea voyage and being shipwrecked on a foreign shore of Outremer, then making his way through the forest. The problem was there were no gaps in his memory that he could tell. And periods of forgetfulness usually involved a blow to the head, but his head felt fine.

A spell might have been cast or magic used on him to make him forget or alter his memories. It was possible, he'd heard, but he was no mage. But such magicks were powerful and expensive, no one would want to do that to a nobody like him!

"I shall take a look at this map when I can, friend Ondrea. Maybe I am no longer on Outremer after all. Maybe I'm on Earth! Somehow I doubt it. Thank you, fair maiden. Where I come from women are not allowed much independence. I can see that's a pity and a crime against God.

"But yes, let me speak to the innkeep. Let's get some food and then be off. I hope simple fare like peas porridge and milled oats are to your liking."

Getting up, he spoke to the innkeep as he banked the fire to arrange some quick food for the trail.

Having spoken with Captain Rasmir the day before, the inn is more than happy to supply you with some dry rations and smoked meats for the journey.  As you set off you find the morning sun blaring across the land.  Any fears set in place the night before quickly dissipate as the warm of the sunlight washes over you.  As you approach the gate, you see it is already swung wide open and the town guard have begun lining the road and treeline with soldiers as several others are busy gathering firewood and loading it into the burning pit.

Larz finished his ale and grabbed a hunk of cheese and a piece of bread and stood to head out the door. "I'll meet the lot of you at the gate after I go to the temple and get healed up." he said before shoving a hunk of the bread in his mouth and walking out into the day light.

After he had been healed he went back to the inn and grabbed his gear and strapped his sword on his back then headed to meet the others. Finding them near the gate he strode up obviously feeling much better. "Well I see everyone made it." he said grinning. "What do you say we go hunt some Goblins."

Filling his pockets & pack with food, enough for two, if he is allowed. After all he is a Halfling, and has a reputation for eating he has to maintain.  (Oh and dont forget re-filling his wineskins.)
Waits for the rest of the party, at the bar.
In passing when they walk by on their errands, says to each.
"Let me know when it's time to go, or if you have any news.  I will stay here, as a central contact point for the party.  If you need something done, I can find someone to do it, or do it for you."
Not ambitious to find out where or why he was brought here, simply resigned to the fact the Gods wanted him here.  When the job is done, or he is dead, they will return him.
"Another drink bartender, please."

Boris nodded. "Thanks, I don't think there's much I need in the way of supplies or gear. Very generous of Captain Rasmir to supply the rations."

He went to find said Captain to have a look for himself of this island.

Ondrea raises her hand in greeting as Laz approaches. She is now clad in the familiar half plate and is holding her hammer in both hands. "Well I think I will begin looking for my arrow's while Mr. Underhill looks at his map."

She departs through the gates and begins to search for here errant possessions in the long grass and the surface of the road. She will also pull them from the corpses and give the trees a scan should a white Fletch shaft be sticking in them.

Larzander made his way to the larger goblin bodies and pulled the large hunting knife from his right boot and severed their heads from their bodies. Then finding suitable saplings to make pikes he barrowed one of the woodsmen's ax and made three pikes. Carrying the pikes and the severed heads to the edge of the woods the barbarian set the heads on the poles and set the upright facing the woods.

"That ought to send the Goblins a message." he said admiring his handiwork, as he  waited for everyone to get their things ready to go.

"That's if the bloody Saracens can read!" deadpanned Boris. He was wearing a small backpack over leather kurbil armour, armed with a short sword and buckler. Frowning in disgust, Boris removed a caltrop from the instep of one of the dead. "Oy vey! Such a nasty foot. This will probably need to be boiled."

Putting the last of her retrieved arrows back in her quiver Ondrea set about searching the bodies of the fallen goblins while Laz went about his grizzly business. Should she find anything worthy of further investigation she would call the group together to show them.

Aside from on overpowering stench, made that much worse by Larzs' handy work, the slain goblins and...other dead beasties, possessed nothing of any value or use.  The goblins weapons, as was typical, were mostly rusted chunks of metal with jagged, gouged edges.  When all was said and done, the town guard ignited the fire pit and began tossing the bodies into it with relish.  Captain Rasmir informs you that the majority of the tracks that they've followed seem to run primarily WNW but on occasion they have found a small handful that run NE.

"The Great Southern Forest is a wondrous place but it is unparalleled in its ability to swallow people alive.  Keep your wits about you at all times...that is no place for the weak."

"Well thank you for your help good captain it is much appreciated." With that Ondrea walks to the edge of the woods that the goblins appeared from the night before and looks for the heavy foot prints of the larger beasts in the ground.

If she is able to spot a trail to follow she will let the others know. Gripping her hammer tight with both hands she is eager to make their first foray into the forest and uncover whatever secrets it may hide.

"Fair Ondrea, hold up a moment. I think our friend Stoney is at the tavern. I think he might like to come with us, yeah?"

"Captain Rasmir, I heard you have a map of this island? May I see it later?"

Larz reached out his hand to the Captain. "Keep your watch over the flock Captain. We'll see what we can do about thinning the wolf population for you a bit." he said grinning. "Keep an ear out for my war cry, that means the buggars haven't got me yet."

When the barbarian heard Boris comment about Stoney he shook his head. "Boris, would you go fetch the little drunkard and tell him to step lively or he'll miss the fun. We're burning daylight. If he doesn't hurry up he'll get left behind."
