Be Still, Oh Silent Night

In reply to Boris Underhill (msg # 4):

Hearing the commotion, Stoney is staying near Ondrea's side.  Not wanting to go towards the river of growls, and screeches, until he hears that single word.  The word that everyone understands...."Help."
With disregard for his own safety, Stoney hops down away from higher ground, and dashes towards the door.  "Let the little man in...let him in, he is good folk."
Not knowing if he is good or not, but most Halflings tend to be good to other halflings at least.  "It will be nice to be able to look someone in the face, and not at their chest."  Although chest high does have some slight advantages, with the opposite sex.

As you watch the halfling race down the road, his pursuers suddenly burst into view.  From behind him 6 creatures emerge from the dark...without a doubt they were goblins.  Gibbering and shrieking they raced after the stranger and were gaining with each step.

With seasoned skill Ondrea slightly lowers her bow and lets loose the arrow. She did not watch its flight notching another shaft instead and again aiming for the group of goblins as the first arrow struck home.

Then she moves her aim slightly and picks out the next closest goblin to the fleeing halfling.

Ondrea Avalor rolled 22 using 1d20+3.  Attack arrow.
Ondrea Avalor rolled 9 using 1d8+7 with rolls of 2.  Arrow damage.

In reply to The Powers That Be (msg # 6):

Glancing over his shoulder, Boris was again shocked and confused. "Goblins! Where did you come from?" After the Great Cleansing War of the Red King, all such unclean races had been exterminated, extirpated from the rich lowlands of the Marches. No orc or goblin had been seen in these woods for a generation at least! What's going on here? he wondered.

Stoney is now at the gate, waiting for the halkfing to huslte and get in.
"C'mon, hurry up!  Make those little legs move faster!"

Knowing that fear of death is a good motivator, other things also help motivate half folks.
Shouting so the little man can hear.

"We have warm food & good ale!  If you ever want to taste it, get in here and be quick about it!"

OOC: I've drawn a crude map, it's under Group Map 0

As you begin to open the gates, Captain Rasmir orders his men into formation, creating a flesh and metal wall immediately behind the door.  As Larzander races forward, he sees the first goblin come howling into the torchlight.  It made it three steps more before an arrow drilled through its' chest.  As it twisted and fell, you could see several inches of the arrow protruding from the creatures back, dripping a vicious black ichre.  No sooner did its lifeless body slam into the packed-dirt road then two more goblins raced into view, showing absolutely no regard for their fallen comrade.

OOC: It will take another round before Larzander can meet up with the pursuing goblins, if you still wish to charge ahead.

As the other two goblins come into view Ondrea settles her sights on the goblin on the left. Drawing the arrow back on the bow string the last centimeter or so she lefts the arrow loose and feels it whoosh past her ear.

She then raises a third arrow and notches it, looking past the three goblins that have already appeared she sets her sights on the first group companions.

Ondrea Avalor rolled 12 using 1d8+7 with rolls of 5.  Damage.

Running towards the front gate & sliding into stop as the goblins come into view.  Watching one fall, and feeling inspired Stoney loads his sling.  A quick spin around his head he releases a stone at one of the goblins.  Unable to see exactly where the stone went he is certain it hit his target, and feels proud that he a skill like this!  Now loading a larger stone, to not wound the creature, but drop it.

Larz and the halfling race passed one another in a blur; the dust from the road being kicked into the air.  Raising his sword high, Larz aims for the closest goblin but before he can reach him, the creature, along with 2 others, howl and fall forward into the road.  Seizing the moment, Larz sinks his blade deep into one that landed only a few feet in front of him.  Removing his sword he gazes toward the next closest target.  As he locks eyes with the green menace, an arrow shaft lodges deep into it's neck.  Its' cold, black eyes staring into you as it collapses to its' knees and topples over (this leaves one remaining on its' feet and two slowly regaining their feet).  More sounds can be heard beyond your vision.

As the strange halfling dashes through the gates, Stoney turns to gaze upon his handy-work.  Spying several goblins down, either dead or injured, he feels thoroughly satisfied that he contributed in some way.

The arrow flies fourth as she spies another target, arcing towards the furthermost goblin from Larzander. It is at this point that she wonders if she should join the fighter as she nocks another arrow and studies the field of battle before her. It's razor edge catches some light either from the lantern of the moon and gives off a glint of death.

Larz didn't turn his attention from the goblins as the halfling raced by. His eyes were on goblins now and his blood was beginning to boil with the heat of battle. He stepped forward to meet the closest goblin. And swung the massive two-handed sword in his hand with all his might at his foe..

Sprinting the last stretch, Boris made it through the gates.

"I'm in! Thank the Half-Gods of the Riverlands, I'm in! Shut the gate!

"Thank you, my friend,"
he gasped to the short man who'd been urging him on. "I believe I'm safe now. I am Boris. What is this town? And were those, were those actually goblins?"

"Heh heh. Steady on, friend Stoney! This Larz fellow should be safe enough. I scattered some caltrops on the road in their path as I ran. It sounds like  Those goblins won't be coming any closer.

"And were those goblins? Really? I thought they were all gone from these parts."

He straightened up to see what he could out the gate.

The last standing goblin nearly flies off his feet backwards as Ondreas' arrow drills into it's stomach.  Collapsing to its' hands and knees, it crawls as quickly as possible off into the darkness of the distant road.  Larz begins to swing at the two goblins still on the ground.  As each one tries to rise to its feet, it is forced to abandon its attempts and instead roll to avoid being sliced in two.  Back and forth he swings at each in turn, but only managing to glance of one of their arms.  They clearly seem more concerned with getting away then continuing to attack.  Suddenly, a new sound emerges from the darkness.  The goblins freeze in place, their eyes now turned to the emptiness they had themselves emerged from.

Ondrea holds her shot as she sees the goblins turn their attention to something coming towards them from the woods. Waiting she tries to gauge the distance to her potential target while covering Larz's back as he returns to the wall. "Mr Halfling if you possess a sling it is sorely needed now, I think and that goes for anyone else with a bow or the like."

OOC: Are "called shots" available in game ?

Great, a 1"

Stoney hearing the call from Larz, grabs a rock and puts it in his sling.
Spinning the rock around Stoney also starts to spin.
Footing slipping on the ground, releases the rock and it flies off in who knows what direction.
Stumbling and trying not to fall on his stomach, he fails that.  Ouch! With a thud is the only sound heard, plus a small cloud of dust. Maybe he would have learned hi lesson about drinking so much, maybe he just needs another drink.

Are you kidding me, another 1?!?!
