Be Still, Oh Silent Night

In reply to Stoney Applesmith (msg # 76):

Taking his turn with the flask Boris agreed with Stoney. "There are many other Pagan gods out there. According to the Church most are demons posing as deities to deceive the unwary while some are true and holy. I wager your Pelor is the latter. But Jehovah is the one true God. Jesus Christ the Redeemer was his only begotten son, who died to forgive our sins, crucified by Pontius Pilate on Golgotha. You look scholarly; i you wish to know more, I can lend you my bible to read.

"I'm not particularly bothered by Pagans, just so you know. not like some people. I have traded among the various heathen peoples like elves, dwarfs, other halflings, and so on."
"

He seemed a little embarrassed by Larz's point. "Like any sensible traveller I would normally travel during the day. But I took a short-cut from the King's road on a game trail I know of to save some time and got lost in the forest. I was trying to find my way when night fell and a fog set in. Then those things attacked out of nowhere. I thought they were maybe brigands but much to my surprise they turned out to be goblins! They have been banished or cleansed from most Christian lands for several generations now so that was quite a shock, let me tell you! And the big ones, something seemed odd about them, with that black blood. Some kind of dark sorcery or devilry is afoot around here.

"And again, where is "here"?"

Rasmir order his men to reseal the mighty wooden gates and with an echoing *THUD* they slam the cross bracing back into place.  The night air begins to calm and a silence returns once more to the woods beyond the gate.

"You've definitely got some stones on you there, good sir."

Captain Rasmir orders his men to bring water and fresh dressings as he dispatches watchmen to other posts along the palisade.

Larz looked up at the Captain and smiled. "This sword isn't a decoration, and you're not paying me for my good looks." he said chuckling. "I just wanted you to know what you hired."

Then Larz looked over at Boris, "Besides I couldn't let the little guy over there face those goblins all by his lonesome."

The warrior turned back to Rasmir, "You thinking they're done for the night Captain? Or was that just a warm-up?"

"Most of the assaults are usually minor with only a handful attacking at any given time.  They seem more like they're testing our defenses most of the time.  But to be honest, I haven't seen anything like those three before.  I'll keep some extra posts on duty tonight in case they decide to come back in bigger numbers but they usually only strike once."

Muttering under his breath, to himself, almost as a reminder.
"Jesus Christ, hmmm."
Grabbing his wineskin.
"Larz my friend, you deserve this, the strong stuff from the undertaker."
Taking a sip before handing it over.
"Lets re-group at the bar, and figure out a strategy!"

Larz took the brew from Stoney and took a long pull from the skin. "Thank you my friend." he said handing the skin back to the little guy.

"Captain, unless you think we're needed here I think we'll do as Stoney suggested." Larz commented. "Tomorrow we're going to take this fight to them."

Bris took his now-empty wine skin back. "You're welcome, brave fellow! i should like to find a Church and give thanks to God, then turn in for the night. I should like to accompany you in the morning, perhaps I may find what is left of my poor mule "Bessie" and see if any of my goods remain. Not much hope of that, I am afraid!

"I don't think I've heard of any "Stragefellow Port Lad" before. I guess I'm really turned around! But no, I'm pretty familiar with the towns of the Riverlands."

He looked at the others. "May I ask who you might be? I am Boris Underhill, of New Jerusalem. Trader, traveller, wanderer, businessman. I have met Stoney's acquaintance already."

Climbing down from her perch and placing her bow over her shoulder Ondrea extends her hand. "I am Ondrea Avalor and it is a pleasure to meet you. As to where we are the port is part of an island so I would assume not part of your riverlands. We all seem to have been drawn to this place through the mist and fog."

She looks down the road to the village, a warm hearth and food would go down well.

"Fate!"
Coughs to clear his throat.

Looking at Ondrea while he speaks.

The barbarian warrior stood and offered a hand to Boris, "Larzander Gunderzen." he said reaching for the other man's hand. "I don't think we were properly introduced when you went whizzing by me earlier." he added smiling at his new friend.

Though the bleeding had been stopped by Stoney's healing, Larz was still injured and in considerable pain. "Come on Stoney, we have some drinking to do." Larz said putting his large hand on the other man's shoulder. "I have some pain I need to numb."

Excited for the bar, Stoney leads the way!
"Lets drink, and figure out strategies.  Nothing brings the strategist out in warriors better than a drink!"

Pray!  Oh ya!  Stoney will pray between drinks, and when he goes to sleep, and wakes up.
He will pray to Pelor, among other Gods.
Jesus christ, he has to learn a little more about before he prays to him.

OOC: Remember Stoney, you can cast the same spell multiple times before needing to rest/pray/recharge.  You can easily heal Larz up before passing out, if you memorized the Heal spell anyway.

In between drinks with the group Stoney has an epiphany!
Rubbing his hands together until they get nice and warm.
"Larzzzz.  Come over here, my friend."
By now he is several rounds deep into drinking. "Larzzz Shut your eyes."
Lays his hands on his back shoulders, as if to rub his shoulders.
"Close yours eyes, feel the warmth and light filling your soul."
Mumbling under his breath, rubbing his hands together faster, and then laying them on Larz' shoulders.
"Pelor, Cyrrollalee, whichever is listening to this puny little halfling.  Please grant your favor on my friend here.  He knows what is right, just needs the strength to continue, and fight for what is right and tureen this plane of existence we are in.  Bestow your healing powers on him, please."

If a God answers Stoney's prayer  healed 2 hp.09:43,
Today: Stoney Applesmith rolled 2 using 1d8.  heal larz.

Be Still, Oh Silent Night

The evening wears on but neither sight nor sound of the beasts resurfaces.  As the adrenaline finally begins to wane to individually head your separate ways to slumber.  Sleep comes easy but rest eludes you as every time you begin to doze off, nightmares of untold horror blast you into reality; pools of sweat forming around you and pouring from every inch of your skin.  Finally, but with great sorrow, the light slowly begins to appear on the horizon.  Dawn was quickly approaching, chasing the shadows back into the forest and lands beyond.

Ondrea is up with the dawn, though she could do with many more hours of sleep. The lack of sleep was somewhat expected given what had happened over the last few hours. After spending several minutes she rose from the end of the bed and donning a gossamer like gown and then went in search of some breakfast.

She greeted the others from the table as they made their way into the main common room.

In reply to The Powers That Be (msg # 101):

After saying his morning prayers, Boris went to find something to eat to break his fast. Halflings did tend to eat a lot! He was no exception. Wandering back into the inn, he spotted Ondrea. "Last night you were clad in the raiment of war! Quite different is this fetching gown you now have on. It suits your beauty much better, if I may be so bold!

"It was mentioned we are on an island. After not finding a proper church, but only temples and so on to local gods I am willing to believe I am no longer in Christendom. There are tales of seafarers who fetch up on heathen shores. But I wasn't on a boat, not that I remember, but in the forest. And not on any island that I know of, although there are such in the riverlands of course.

"That said, I believe some of our companions were intending to explore the forest a little? I'd like to accompany them, if I might."

Indicating the seat opposite with a sweep of her hand Ondrea thanks the little man for the complement before adding. "Thankfully they do not take up to much space. From what I remember of my own journey to the this place I was in battle before awaking in a field outside the village so I was lucky to have a change of clothes such as it is."
"The captain of the guard was good enough to show us a map of the island yesterday afternoon perhaps if you take a look it may bring back a memory or enable you to work out where we are, though I have not heard of this riverlands before and I seem to be having trouble remembering much about my own homeland or even its name, perhaps I hit my head harder then I though on landing."
