May I reiterate

The inability to remove yourself from a game is seriously uncool.

Just tell the GM you quit, and remove you from the game.

If, after one week, the GM has not removed you, you can rmail the Mods with the game information and they will make certain it is done.  I've only had to do that once, and it's effective.

Sometimes a GM will keep a person in until the admins actually step in to remove you from the game but they don't do that until ample time has passed

May I reiterate

I want the ability to remove myself.  In at least two games I visibly quit and they kept me on and I have to keep removing my sticky.  When there is a substantial philosphical difference, I should be able to remove myself.

I have put up with a lot.  This may be the final straw.  I am on many sites where you can extract yourself from a game without disruption.

The Adult policy at least has some justification to it.

This doesn't.

I remove  folks who are in active, or cause problems with other players. When a Player asks to be removed or says he can't play anymore?..i remove   him , after thanking him for the  'I quit' post.

Though I understand the 'ease' of  just quitting any time you want to bail. Its not  an overly big deal?  Maybe this isn't the site for you?

In reply to donsr (msg # 6):

It might not be.

I had put up with it with games that just weren't working but actual ic/ooc rudeness is a bit more than I can put up with.

I don't 'rage quit' but it should be my perogative to do so.

We'll see what happens with said game.

Removing a sticky is that much of a hassle?

I mean I get not being removed in a timely manner but the site is hardly throwing that game at you and making you read it.

Like people have said, there's a provision already for that. Not being able to remove yourself might have a lot to do with the moderators mostly allowing the GM control of their game as long as they stay within the rules.

The issue has been brought up repeatedly in the past, and the Mods have been pretty clear on their stance:

bigbadron:
In reply to Gluttony (msg # 1):

Only the GM controls who is part of their game.  Only they can add players, and only they can remove them.  We will not give players the ability to remove themselves from a game any more than we would give them the ability to add themselves to one.  If you want access, or to end your access, you need to speak to the GM.

Personally, as a GM myself, I would hate for players to either "hissy-quit" on their own or just passive-aggressively remove themselves from my games.  You want out?  No problem.  I won't stop you.  I don't understand GMs who won't remove the player, unless they don't know how without deleting the characters, too.

Excuse me but I remove it and it keeps coming back.  I also, quite frankly, find interaction with the admins less than pleasant.  It's their site, so their rules, but I find their requirements ridiculous so I'm done.

I'm a GM.  And I trust my players to remove themselves.

Bye.

You don't have to "Rage Quit". Just PM the GM, and ask to be removed from the game. Simple and sweet.

As for the why it is this way, it is so the GM has control who comes in and out of their games. A lot of people here put a lot into their games. So if someone just doesn't want to be in it anymore, it makes it easier on them to know you want to leave, and they can figure out what they need to do to continue the game without your character. If you had the ability to just remove yourself, then people and characters would just disappear at any time, and the GM wouldn't have a clue unless they look at the list on a constant basis and noticed a name had gone missing.

It is just respectful to let the GM know you want to leave, which is something a lot of us around here would rather be I would hope. If there is a reason that the GM doesn't remove you, like they have disappeared or they are just being a jerk. Then you have the Mods that can help after a reasonable time has gone by. But they do need to see you actually asked to be removed in a PM. Not just something supposedly obvious in a thread in the game.

yep..i had a couple  folks Bummed  out  and quit...I have   cut folks who were ruining the game  for others... I always  ask my new players to give me a heads up when they  wish to leave the game..i know my games aren't for everyone.

I will cut  that player who asks, right after I read the PM, and..after replying with a thank you.

to be fair?.. clicking a But to  not see the game isn't  a hardship.

Considering our Mods' reputations here, this tells me a lot about the problem and where, exactly, it lies.

RPOL isn't for everyone; at least you have those other sites you mentioned to play on.

And that is why you would never make it into a game of mine. Oh, and no swearing on these forums.

Agreed donsr, I have no reason to keep someone in a game who doesn't want to be there. So I would remove as soon as you make it clear in a PM. People sometimes might have some kind of fit in OOC and say something that they want to leave. But I wouldn't use that, unless they come to me in a PM. I want to make sure they really want to leave, and just not running their mouth.

And as for the Mods, honestly these are some of the best Mods around. They enforce the rules, which are there for reasons. And they don't pick favorites. They just do their job.

So will see you then, because if you just are here to cause trouble for everyone now. I doubt we will be seeing you around for long anyways.

Re: May I reiterate

yeah.....I played on E-Z Boards  years and years ago..best sites  on the net... anyone could open one, and set up, almost like here.

then some jerks  attacked  E-Zboards a  and Virused them up ( they should have their fingers  removed)

This  site  is  a couple steps above  those boards. And  its Good  , only the GM  can let folks in or kick folks out.

I would be wary of those other sites.( where ever they are...)

agreed Proph.. I don't see that guy being in too many games here... and we  may have some insight on why the   GM is ignoring his  plea to cut him?

I don't see how. If he's like that in his games, I'd be cutting him sooner.

As a GM, I don't want to keep people on that don't want to be there.

This.  Disruptive players only cause problems if allowed to remain after they've asked to be removed.

I'm thinking that the GM he's upset about either just hasn't had a chance to get to it (not everyone logs in daily) or they may not know how to remove someone (not all GMs have had to remove a player before).  I can't imagine anyone wanting an angry player to continue to have access to their game.

Yes, don't want to keep any trouble players around as a GM. And depending on how troublesome they are, sometimes added to the banned list.

That is the worst part though, if I am reading the posts correctly. It sounds like he said something about leaving in game, and not in a PM to the GM.

Re: May I reiterate

I don't want players there who  don't  like the gAme, or me, or cause problems  for other players.

I am blessed with some double chocolate brownie good Vets in my game they help folks, so if a rookie  comes  in and is a jerk, that player won't  be there long.

I enevr keep 'dead players' on my list. I only have  2  on  my one game, theyw ere charter members  and Good RP  folks..one, passed away, the other, RL claimed..i use them as   backround NPCs as  a tribute.

anyway...its a moot point. If you are gonna  open up a thread  just to whine  about not being able to quit?...then you have some issues.

Re: May I reiterate

I'll say this: I've only ever been mad enough to need a GM to delete me right now and it was a situation where the GM didn't want to accept that I wanted to leave. I made a point of including F-bombs in every single post I made in the game until they canned me because the game wasn't adult. I figured either the game would die or the GM would figure it out. I think I blocked that person. I might not have, but I think I did. I refuse to play God Games because of it. In any case, I haven't really been that mad about any other game. In a way I can see OP's need to ragequit, I just don't happen to feel it.

I just find it somewhat amusing that they're rage-quitting the site over the inability to rage-quit a game.

Re: May I reiterate

I think we've covered the bases here.  RPoL's position on this issue is clearly stated, and the reasons explained pretty succinctly in this thread.

It is not that difficult to ask the GM of a game to remove you from it, and if they have not done so within a week, drop a PM with a game link to the moderators asking us to do so.  Include a link to the PM where you requested the removal, and the whole process is usually quite quick and no discussion beyond request/link needed if a week has passed between the request to the GM and request to the moderators.
