Is there a way to mass download a game?

A game of mine ended but has fantastic writing that I want to save. Rather than manually copy/paste every single post into a text document, is there an easier way to save it in case it gets deleted?

There's the D/L Thread button, which should be near the top right of the page, if I remember correctly.

Edit: Correction, it's just "D/L." I'll admit, that button could probably be more clear (I'd have no idea what it was if I hadn't used it before), but that's what it is and where.

Sadly I have found that only works for games that you own. Is this by design?

Could you ask the GM to download it themselves and send you a copy (or upload it somewhere else for you to access)?

In reply to ColinBeck (msg # 3):

Yes, it is - the D/L link is intended only for GM use.

However, if you aren't the GM, you can use the All button to show the whole thread (as long as it's less than 1000 posts) then save it to your computer.  The only thing you'd be missing out on would be the formatting options.

If  the GM has made the choice, that only he/she could continue the game?...shouldn't  there be a safeguard , against folks stealing the game?

The responsibility for safeguarding his own game actually falls upon the GM.

If he feels strongly enough that he doesn't want anybody else copying it, he can easily switch the threads to non-public groups.  Then only the people with access to those groups can see them.

I can see  that. I had a player who was DLing 'to sort things out' but when he was cut from the game, I had to ban him, to keep him out of my game threads.

My DM just abandoned the game, with no warning, and hasn't responed to any inquiry for a good 2 months now.

Re: Is there a way to mass download a game?

been there Colinbeck..GMs leaving games happen as much as players  bailing. The first thing I check is how many games a GM runs, and How many are deleted..if there are too many, of either, I just pass on the game.

Having said this? It's nice to read, some of the past posts, but in the end? it was that GMs  game, whether he killed in, or RL too him away.

Re: Is there a way to mass download a game?

The GM has marked this game as containing personal and intellectual property.
If the GM leaves or deletes the game nobody else will be able to continue the game.

Followup question- If I get some of the other characters together, and we manage to beg another GM to start a new game, how much of the previous are we allowed to use? I assume us using the same characters that we invented and used in the last game is ok, but what about the setting? Can I use the general universe, or can I use the specific backstory and plot that our GM led us through, taking it on our own new path? Can we use copy/pasted info from the game so long as it wasn't the GM who wrote it?

I'm not sure how we define intellectual property in this particular instance, where the other players and I contributed heavily to both the story and the majority of the raw text.

Re: Is there a way to mass download a game?

it would seem to me, that any 'ideas' of the GMs are his... you are an RPer? You should be able to build your own world, close to what he had  , without  stealing his stuff.

I have been in gmaes that were  handed down to an active player, but  they don't seem to flow  as well, because  the new  GM doesn't have the same view... or as they say..'vision?

If you were to get folks from your game, and one of you became the  GM  for a 'spinoff', it would  flow as well from your ideas.
