Similar to boardgamegeek.com's google group, that's where they go when it goes down.

It could serve the same purpose and help you with the posting withdrawals.

Oh, you want something a little less crass...

Actually Paizo, the Piazza, RPG.net all seem like good coices.

I'm on was on rpg.net.  It's a hellsite.  reddit has its moments where a thread is lifted out of the sewer... but it's so rare I literally only go there to check on specific fansite that go down because they maintain a presence there.  For reasons I cannot fathom.

Granted it's not as bad as maintaining a presence on a chanboard...

I have heard good things about Piazo's forums.  Unfortunately it's D&D... and I loathe it preciousess, it burns ssssss.....

Re: r/rpol

Reading all these conversations, and what some of you accept from in social media platforms and discussion fora - is  completely different to what I would find at all acceptable...

I suppose that comes from being old, working with computers for years and understanding that I can live my whole day without any apps on my phone.

What that highlights is the great range of people who use RPoL (most of whom will never come to this forum, let alone one set up elsewhere) - And highlights the immaturity of social media as a technology.

I was almost tempted to set up a discussion board or even a chat forum on one of my  before anything like this happened again.   But then I remembered that RPoL has its own chat engine (Top Right of the main screen) that could already do that job ...  But we had all forgotten about it ...

*Old man goes off to reminisce*  Ah, back in the good old days when we had a community here and people used to use the chat engine to talk to each other .....

Re: r/rpol

It's not RPoL's chat. It's just a portal to ircstorm.net, which is an IRC server with many other channels. In my opinion (granted I last looked ten years ago) the people who run it are not the most customer-friendly. I put forth a suggestion a long while back that we move the chat to goodchatting.com instead, but that probably got lost in the sands of time...

Re: r/rpol

Indeed. As far as a chat medium is concerned - it is extremely mediocre :)  But it is an off-site medium that allows communication between RPoL members when the main site is down -  which is what people appear to be asking for.

It may be offsite, but it was 404ing as well.

[EDIT]
Because of course, it's not offsite.  The site being rpol.net/chat.cgi.

Although not, I suspect, when you have the chat client already installed  :)
