Talitha strikes hard then raises her shield in defense.
OOC: It just covers you

Faeli spurs her pony into a gallop and it streaks across the clearing.
OOC: Commanding your horse to gallop makes it move twice at +10speed. For a pony that ends up being 90' of movement for 2 actions.

Kaddock sinks an arrow into the side of the boar.

Tristen moves forward, bouncing a bolt off the boar's thick hide.

Arialis moves her horse forward. It bucks a little at approaching the boar throwing off Arailis' aim a bit. Still she sinks a blade into the side of the creature.

Razyll slowly starts approaching the battlefield.

Aldren and the mercenary move up to trap the boar and stab at it but the thick hide seems to turn away their spears and blades. The guide fires his bow but the arrows just bounce off of it.

The boar turns and its tusks flash gutting hitting the neck of Talitha's horse. It shudders and falls over, bleeding out onto the grass and threatening to pin Talitha under it.
OOC: Make a reflex save vs. DC 12 to kick out in time (Note the penalty of -2 to reflex due to being mounted so it is basically a DC 14 save). If you fail then you have to spend two actions next round getting yourself out from under it.

With the horse down the boar kicks forward, lowering its massive head and charging towards Tristen. Arialis gets a free attack on the fleeing boar scoring a long cut on its flank.
<orange>OOC: 8 damage
It ends up landing its charge on Tristen's side and pain shoots through him as a tusk pierces his leg. Tristen is able to stay conscious but just as the pain registers the boar flicks its head up, the tusks threatening to launch Tristen up into the air and out of the saddle.
OOC: Make a DC 19 Reflex save (21 due to the -2 to saves in the saddle) or get knocked prone as you launch out of the saddle. You can pick where you land though, one of the squares next to your horse.

Faeli pelts the boar in the head with a large rock.

Arialis moves in and sinks her blades into the beasts neck.

The boar's hide deflects Razyll's scimitar attack.

Tristen stabs his sword down as well opening a large wound.

The boar shudders and stumbles to its feet. It pushes back up and lashes its head around to gut someone with its tusks but it swiftly loses its balance and it falls to its feet once again. It's still alive but it no longer seems to have the strength to get back up anymore.

Aldren's got big dinner plate eyes as he surveys the damage. Two dead horses and a third that is badly wounded. The man who got trampled had his head exploded like a melon when a hoof landed on it so no chance of recovery there.

"By the gods, that thing was massive! If I hadn't invited you we might never have taken that thing down. I...I don't even know how to take it back. Any suggestions?"

Meanwhile the guide and still remaining mercenary are working to retrieve the body. It takes a lot of hands to lift up the dead horse but eventually the body is worked free.

Given the massive size of the boar it likely ways north of 2,000lbs. Possibly even close to 3,000lbs.

She turns to Aldren Foxglove "Mr. Foxglove, I think we should use as many horses as we can to move the body. Two horses are already dead and one seems quite beaten. If we use some more to move the beast the whole group will move at walking pace. there is no sense in being some of us riding, when we can ensure that we don't exhaust the ones dragging the boar. None of these horses were trained for this, and I don't want to have to pull the beast myself the last few miles because the horses can't anymore." She smiles as she says that last bit.

[1.04] Boared

It is decided to process the boar then and there so for the next hour those skilled at the hunt take turns hacking and sawing away. The tendons are like iron and the hide at times seems almost impervious to a skinning knife but eventually the group makes off with about half a ton of cuts.

When asked what to do about the dead body of his friend the mercenary just shrugs. He seems completely uninterested in any kind of burial although he does take the time while everyone is distracted with the boar to take the dead man's coin pouch and leather gloves.

Foxglove is a nonstop stream of chatter on the way back. He retells the story of the boar they just hunted no less than three times, each time embellishing it a little and by the time they break the treeline the boar was the size of a mid-sized dragon and each and every one of the party has a spotlight of brave heroism where they saved another from certain death. The boar had become a creature of uncanny and evil intelligence, stalking and toying with them. If their journey had taken any longer it seemed likely that Aldren would start to insinuate that the boar was secretly behind the invasion of Sandpoint!

That evening Aldren enlists the aid of several of the town cooks to hold a magnificent feast for not just the heroes but also for many within the town. It is clear that the guest list would exceed the capacity of the Rusty Dragon so instead the feast is pushed to the following night with a full day of preparations. The boar is prepared a dozen different ways: stews, chops, casseroles, sandwiches...it seems the list goes on and on as each cook tries out a different recipe. The mayor declares it to be a contest and the cooks, including Ameiko, go into furious overdrive trying to out do one another. It seems like this feast turns into a huge morale boost for the citizens who had their big celebration disrupted just a week earlier. The mayor cracks open her personal wine stores and the reds flow like water as the celebration goes long into the night. The town once again cheers the heroes for the meat as well as Foxglove and the mayor for organizing a celebration. It may have been put together at the last minute but the citizens of Sandpoint enjoy every minute of it. As the bonfire dies down a few villagers strike up instruments and play popular folk tunes until the fire fully dies down.
