More on Aaliria

Aaliria is mostly old forest with plenty of streams, waterfalls, and hills. There are villages in the wilder regions but cities are restricted to the more developed coast. Magical beasts are known to roam those forests as well. The land is known for hunting and fishing. The former kingdom is now under the rule of its theocratic neighbor of Ocel. They claim it is for the protection of Aaliria but everyone knows it is to mine a special magical ore found only 60 years ago.

The three counties
Adwys: Seditious old forest with rivers. This wild region is known for large and deadly wildlife. The anti-Ocel rebellion is said to be strongest here,
supported by supplies smuggled from Oloeri or Kerann, but
children and elders struggle to survive in these deadly forests,
so Adwys's communities are hardly thriving.

Craemwen: Prosperous coastal forest with rivers. It has a fortress, port, and roads. Rabbit Island, off the coast of Craemwen, has become an Ocel military training facility and a prison camp for Aalirian dissidents. Craemwen's people are otherwise treated well to convince outsiders of Ocel's good intentions toward Aaliria. Craemwen City is currently the wealthiest in Aaliria and the site of the governor's palace.

Lovell: Coastal old forest with rebel informants. It has roads and a citadel. Site of Aaliria's former capital, Brigswen, Lovell is the
worst-taxed region in Ocel-controlled Aaliria.

Factions of Aaliria
Order
The royal family of Aaliria, although in exile, still holds sway in Craemwen and Lovell and to a lesser degree Adwys due to its sparse population.

Ocel has a military presence and governors but minimal loyalty among the people. Most actions are facilitated with money or military enforcement.

Faith
Sadaya’s Love has full sway over the lands with no animosity towards other faiths. They believe in community, relationships, and life.

Ocel forces are required to follow the Temple of the Sky gods, a strict faith of authority and their conception of justice.

Trade
Brightwater Shipping has no meaningful competition on Aaliria. The trade house has origins tied to the royal family of Aaliria and stay loyal to those roots. They do not trade with with Ocelian ports and are often harassed by Ocel officials in Aaliria because of rightful suspicions of supplying the rebels. The Ocel governors allow them to operate only because the organization is a reliable source of taxes. Brightwater also has presences in the prosperous Elven kingdom of Arendaniel and the jovial laid back farmland of Ocia.

Magic
Magical education in Aaliria is by apprenticeships or local city universities.

The Eyes of the Dragon have the motto “Knowledge, Power, Secrets”. They are typically mages for hire. Their secrecy leads to suspicion especially rumors that they are agents of the leader of Kerann. The suspicions are offset by the knowledge they actively oppose the dark forces of the Maelstrom. They gain good will and potential new members by providing superior magical education.

Cultural
General interest bards are quite common but not particularly organized in Aaliria.

The Devotional Artists Guild exists to sponsor holy art, music, and theatre. They have a small presence in Adwys, a moderate presence in Craemwen, and a larger presence still in Lovell. They are also in Calirien and Ocel. They are particularly liked by the priests and leaders of Ocel. Unlike others they find themselves at odds with other cultural organizations including free bards.

The Benevolent Archive of Theological Literature open minded collector of stories and histories, especially as they pertain to the gods. They are lightly present throughout the Stalwart South. They travel and perform for minimal pay to raise the spirits of the people. They also established physical archives for the people.
