Sun AnYue is escorted through the yamen by a smartly liveried servant. It is a large, sprawling complex walled off from the rest of the town such as to seem like a village within the town. It also appears to be as well guarded as the town itself and Sun feels like there must be as many guards patrolling the interior of the yamen as there were on the town walls themselves.

Upon arrival within Qinxing, Sun had presented a letter of introduction and the invitation to a formal introduction with the magistrate came back within hours. Now here she is shown through the complex, past the beautifully appointed audience chamber, and into the private areas behind - rank clearly brings with it privileges.

The magistrate is already seated when you arrive; occupying one end of a large ornate table which is already laid with several platters of food. He doesn't rise as Sun enters, arguably a breach of etiquette but it has to be said gauging the difference in rank between your relative positions is tricky at the best of times and it is his town. He does, however, give a warm smile and invites her to sit to his right side,
