OOC Game Discussion

I figured we could use a thread for things specifically about what’s going in the game as opposed to the general chat.

Questions:
Is the lighter a zippo?
Is the canteen a boyscout type or the type you have whiskey in?
Are the painkillers NSAID?

The lighters are the zippo type, refillable, reliable, etc.

The canteen is the hiking or Boy Scout type. At least locally the other is called a flask.

I’d say you can choose. Places like the hospital usually have various NSAIDs as well as acetaminophen

There is a bit of a crowd here, so roll necessary for hospital staff. No other medic types are in the room currently though.

Okay, how combat normally goes. Everyone announces their actions and rolls all the dice associated, that includes to hit, speed, depletion, etc. Then any adjustments are made, like okay I want to parry or Dodge or whatever. Also CP or canceling out others’ failures or other mechanical things. And then everything is resolved in the order of lowest speed to highest. We will see how it goes online and may have to adjust.

An example combat with Jim and Bob vs Robert the Zombie
Jim declares he is going to swing with his baseball bat.

Bob declares he is going to stab Robert with a combat knife. He has no defense plans yet but if it becomes an issue he can chose between his party or his dodge.

Robert the Zombie declares he is going to maul Bob, hopefully going for a bite.

Jim rolls the percentile, 2 speed, and 1 depletion die. He gets a 23% which is 2 degrees of success, 8 speed, and a 2 depletion.
Bob rolls the percentile and 1 speed. He gets 67% with 3 degrees of failure and 4 speed.
Robert the Zombie rolls his dice. He gets 43% barely 1 degree of success, and a speed of 16.

Bob swings and misses badly. Bob’s player groans badly because he knows too many failures open him to special attacks. Jim with an 8 speed goes next and hits. With his two successes he decides to go for pure damage and boosts the damage from 1 die to 3. Rolling the dice he gets a 12, the game master declares that is enough to wound the zombie but it is still up. Robert the Zombie would hit Bob, who decides to try to parry. Since it is a second action it adds to his speed and difficulty, he rolls a 26% dodge, a success which he uses to cancel the success to hit him.  On the next turn the zombie will have a harder time because it is hurt.

Our current situation: It sounds like Ody is going to Intimidate which has a 4 speed and going to take an attack (which would be at the speed of his weapon plus the second action penalty of 1 die of speed and 1 die of difficulty). Simon interposed himself, he could just parry, parry and attack, or just attack.

So, do I roll Melee-Slashing, or Diplomacy-Intimidate? I understood we make one roll per turn regardless of the choice, but I could've read it wrong.

Technically it’s one roll. I feel like with two disparate actions it should be two rolls. And that will be my ruling unless I see people abusing it for extra successes.

So can I do two rolls, and use + from the better one to kick - out of the second one (because it's gonna happen XD)?

If not, no worries. That's always the problem with these kinds of abstractions when they're not so intuitive. We'll figure it out.

I am not sure what I'm supposed to roll at this point so if I can be told I will gladly roll and hope.

Simon is absolutely correct. It is a Command/Coax roll. I think given the case it is a relatively easy roll so just don’t fail by a ton and you should be good.

I will describe the results once the roll for Julius and the 2 rolls for Ody come in, but Simon with the huge hit doing a level 2 wound and change. As for Eric and Carmen I feel like there isn’t enough room for them to act this turn other than to position themselves.

And 56 for Melee-Slashing, I have 76 and the axe says plus 16%

06:10, Today: Odysseas Dallas rolled 56 using 1d100 ((56)).

13:12, Today: Julius Black rolled 66 using 1d100.  Command/Coax. – 66

My Command/Coax is 28 so I think I failed that pretty badly, unless I really don't understand the system

So your target was 28. 38 would be 1 degree failure, 48 would be 2, 58 is 3 degrees of failure, and 68 would be 4. Since you got a 66 that would be 3 degrees of failure. That doesn’t always mean you fail. They had reasons to believe your request and I decided you would need 4 degrees of failure to actually change their mind and make them stay in combat.
