Newly added player can't see their request-to-join thread

I just added a new player to a game, and they're taking over an orphaned PC.  The new player can see all the messages for the current character, but they can't see the thread with their requesting access message. I can, though.

How did this happen?  Is there a way to restore access to the thread for the player?

Silly question, but have they been added to all the correct groups?

Yeah seems that happens. I took over a char once to and my own rtj thread was gone but i could see the other players rtj thread.

It's a glitch that happens from time to time. You need to rmail the mods with a link to the message. They can straighten it out.

Actually, it's a bit of a "by design" bug.

When you request to join a game the access request is actually posted as your user account.  Normally posts are recorded under your character but as you don't have access yet.. well, you can't.  Until you're added to the game all private messages are posted under your user account.

When you're later added to the game your user PMs (there could be more than one) becomes your character PMs.

However when transferring characters this can't be done.  You need to inherit the entire PM database for the existing character, so rather than your user PMs becoming your character's PMs, you get the character's existing PMs.

Hope that makes sense.

If you reply to the original thread it might add it back to their list, but I suspect it won't.

Ah, I see.  OK, thanks, jase.  Any plans to change that in the future to somehow give players both their player PMs and their character PMs?

I don't think of it so much as a bug as an undocumented feature to conceal the user name of the original owner of the character.  Additionally in older adult games (pre the automated age statements changes) the original RTJ would have had the players date of birth (or month/year).

Yeah, giving access to someone else's rtj seems like a breach of privacy.  The best thing to do is copy over realvant information  unless I'm misunderstanding something?

I bumped the RTJ thread, and the player can see their RTJ once more.  Thank you, jase!
