Naya (Ayuush Sar'nai)

Appearance

Standing a little over five and a half feet tall, Naya has a trim figure exemplifying her compact power.  Her proud face and challenging green eyes are framed by long brunette hair that typically flows freely, restrained only by a circlet about her brow.  It is only for ceremony or battle that she wears more complicated braided stylings.

Naya favours loose fitting robes, shirts and trousers in bold colours of dark blue, white and rich yellow ochres, accentuated with adornment such as wooden or ivory beads and silver jewelry.  One such piece is always with her, a necklace bearing a silver pendant featuring seven stars grouped around a pair of eyes, the symbol of Selûne the Moonmaiden.

When garbed for battle Naya wears a suit of chainmail and a conical helm, with a round shield upon her arm.  Her favoured weapons are the spear, the longsword and the composite short bow, which she plies from the saddle of her light warhorse Spirit with great effectiveness.

Background

Ayuush Sar'nai, known as Naya to her close acquaintances, was khagana (princess) of one of the Horselord clans that rule the vast eastern grasslands and the stony hills of the Spine.  But when Naya was in her late teens political issues came to a head on the plains and with some deft political maneuvering and a few decisive battles Naya's family was sundered.  Those who remained alive were exiled, never to return in good standing with the clan.

Naya eventually made her way to the more populated centres of the continent and sought her fortune there.  Even a khagana was used to hard work so the challenges to build a new life were not overwhelming, but rather markers along the way to her return.  Skilled with the weapons of the plains - sword and spear, composite bow shot from the saddle - she made a name for herself.  But she was not all about battle, for she maintained her clan role as caregiver and sage as an acolyte to Selûne, the moon goddess.  In both these areas she excelled, gaining skill and wisdom as the years went by.

Now Naya finds herself well-placed in society, with worldly goods she could only imagine in her early days on the grasslands and friends and acquaintances just as powerful as she, or even more so.  Even so, there is the itching at the back of her brain that continually resides there, never letting her forget her end purpose.  To return to the eastern grasslands and open the eyes of her people to all the world has to offer them.
