Re: OOC Community Chat 5

No worries. A lot of people seem to be on temporary hiatus. At least, I hope it's temporary...

I am in the background preparing details of the adventure to make it a proper and engaging mystery to solve, as well as with some action and other PC skills, and also introducing members of the Syndicate and finding good pictures to use.

Re: OOC Community Chat 5

Ok, we lost both our new players before even starting, it seems. This means I'm not waiting for anyone now, but who is still with us? Tahldar? Renakaris? Shae? Kahan? Leo? Maybe even Borimer or Vegren?

I think we need to have 4-5 to make this work, and you will need to likely communicate amongst each other more, as this is a mystery and will have Syndicate people showing up.

Re: OOC Community Chat 5

Everyone: Hope you are doing well and had great holidays. I am back in action now--still working two jobs until I get my new hire onboarded, but a New Year's resolution of mine is to get my two active games back on track. I just hope I haven't lost anyone, though I couldn't blame someone for leaving due to my negligence with this game.

But onward and upward. You will soon have a wedding mystery to solve!

Re: OOC Community Chat 5

So sorry, everyone. I have had some major problems personally with my wife's health and professionally doing the work of 3 people while being understaffed. I am feeling it mentally and am so exhausted. I feel guilty about it, but I need to pause this game (which you probably already figured out). I hope to return to it, may need to reboot it, and so forth. time will tell. So sorry about this.

Ok.  I hope you can sort things out.  I've been getting run ragged caring for my son and keeping up with work.  I find I have little energy or desire to game with what little free time I get.

Re: OOC Community Chat 5

I have had time to reflect, and I am thinking of starting a new campaign on this world (with some revisions in the worldmaking). It would be starting as first level characters and involve political intrigue, mystery solving, as well as traditional D&D fighting and exploring elements.

Essentially, you would all start as students at an academy where the teachers were all (presumably all) killed. This starts one mystery thread that will extend through the game. There will be rumors of survivors in hiding, and people who will claim to be surviving teachers, etc., but in any case, due to your higher education and skills, the king has put a premium on your continued survival and assistance.

The first adventure would restart the one we had been working on with some tweaks. I really liked the mystery element to that but we never got that far into it.

Your current PCs could still be alive and "retired" or otherwise around to show up once in awhile--something we could work out--but you would primarily control the young students.

Does this sound like something you would be interested in?  Honestly, running a high level campaign was difficult because there were always tons of magic or other loopholes to get through every situation, and too much for me to remember. I'm getting old. :) I started playing D&D in 1980.

If any of you are into this premise, I would start to advertise for some players. I usually like to start with 5-7 becaus 1 or 2 inevitably drop out and become fodder.

Re: OOC Community Chat 5

Heath, it's great to hear from you. And I'm glad you are going to run another campaign.

Right now I have a lot going on and I won't have the time to invest in something new.  I don't want to start something I wouldn't be able to give it the time it deserves.

At the same time I could be available to run Talhdar part time if you'd like.  Assuming he'd be needed in any way.  Or NPC him as you see fit.  It'd be awesome if he were to carry on and impact the game in some way.

Re: OOC Community Chat 5

Everyone:

Sorry for my absence. I caught Covid, then the family got sick, then I relapsed, and now trying to recover from a cold while catching up with work and all the real life stuff.

Thanks for your patience.

To answer questions:
You will have the option to convert your current character or create a new one.

I would generally ask people to post 3-4 times per week, but as you all know, I am easy going about delays as long as you don't mind the story moving ahead a bit without your PC's input.

IF ANYONE CAN GIVE ME A FINAL COUNT IF THEY ARE INTERESTED, LET'S SET A TENTATIVE START DATE FOR APRIL 1. And then we can figure out the details and ask for more players in the meantime. i usually start at 5-6 players because inevitably, 1 or 2 drop out soon.

But i have to say this: I'm really excited about this background and world update. I've been thinking on it for a good year or more and have some good ideas that work best with lower level players.

Probably not too much of the "Save the World" or dungeon crawls anymore.

Re: OOC Community Chat 5

Yes. I always go max hit points at each level. It seems the most fair because rolling the dice for that could be super annoying iif you roll a 1.

I am also developing a slight change to magic rules so that they will work better in a PBP format.

Thanks, that's really nice.
Do NPCs get max HP too?

It'll be interesting to see what your magic change will be

Re: OOC Community Chat 5

We are using 2nd edition rules.

If you had a character on this game, nothing has to change except moving the level down to 1, along with the hit points, and related adjustments. We will also get rid of all but basic equipment. I'm hoping it's an easy transition.

Re: OOC Community Chat 5

In reply to Renakaris (msg # 451):

NPCs and most enemies also get max HPs. Level 0 NPCs will not.

The magic change will mirror what I suggested just prior to the game going dark. Mainly, instead of memorizing, casters will have something more equivalent to mana and can choose from amongst their various spells without having to learn it in advance. I find that is just too painful in this slow moving format. You may literally have to determine spells months ahead of time...
