A meeting of the minds

You begin following the path into the forest. You hardly go more than a few hundred yards before you spot some sort of structure ahead.

Looking a bit closer through the mist, you see that it is an old graveyard. It has been abandoned for a long time, probably for up to 100 years. Overgrowth covers tombstones, and many others have fallen over and cracked. There are sporadic small tombs scattered throughout. It is a very large graveyard.

Sark pipes up, "Oh, yes, I remember this place. Tarimar buried his failed experiments here." You notice that Sark is becoming more lucid over time, especially since leaving the caves where he was imprisoned surrounded by flames for 10 years.

Near the gated entrance of the cemetery, you see stones in a circle marking a place where someone once built a fire. It is covered with overgrowth and no one has been here in at least 10 years, seemingly consistent with Sark's comment. Next to it are a decayed old axe and shovel--probably what Tarimar used for burial. They are useless now. You are not sure what effect the Cursed Earth would have in a graveyard.

Just then, looking in through the mist, you see the figure of a man staring back at you from about 50 feet ahead of you. As soon as you see him, he turns and runs into the mist.\

"Should we follow after him?" Tahldar asks.  "We need to move with haste.  I'm not sure if we should bother."

OOC: Sorry, forgot there was a post to respond to lol

"We should be weary of him, but no, I do not think we have time to follow him," Kahan agrees as he begins moving through the graveyard.

Tahldar stops.  "I would like to go after him, what say the rest of you?" he says hoping to put it to a vote.

Following him and going deeper into the graveyard is essentially the same thing, so you start to go into the mists, following the trail that the spectral man took. But as he disappears into the mist, you lose him.

You notice that there is a main path through the center of the cemetery, with small paths breaking off every 20 feet or so to your left or right to go between the ancient graves in a checkerboard type of pattern. Everything is worn and hardly visible through overgrowth now. The overgrowth is quite heavy in some places, to the extent you wish you had a machete.

There are various stone tombs also scattered throughout the graveyard.

After about 100 yards, you approach what appears to be the center of the cemetery. There is a wall surrounding the center of the cemetery, though it has mostly crumbled with age. You are approaching north from the south and reach the old iron gate doors, which have now broken off and fallen to the ground. The graves here are arranged less formally than the ones at the other parts of the cemetery, and there is a small rectangular tomb to the northwest.

Tahldar suddenly raises a hand for you to stop. You hear someone casting a spell from in front of you, directly to the north.

Then you see three figures slowly approaching through the mist. They each hold a small scythe. You cannot see their details clearly through the mist in the darkness of night. Whoever is casting is behind the ones you can see.

Tahldar stops at the sight of men.  "We are weary travelers looking to pass through.  We mean no harm." he says loudly enough for them to hear in hopes of brokering safe passage.

The figures dart off toward the tomb to your left. At about the same time as Tahldar's statement, you hear the words of a man say, "We are well armed. Surrender your weapons and do not cast any spells."

"We wish you no ill will. We are simply passing through. If you do not attack us, we will continue on our way, peacefully," Kahan calls out, one hand in the air as his other continues holding his holy symbol out in front of him. They might not recognize the god the symbol represents, but there is no mistaking a holy man, especially in his garb.

(Kahan's form might not be clear because it is pitch dark and there is a heavy mist. Likewise, your group cannot clearly see the people coming the other way.)

Even as Kahan begins to talk, one of the figures launches the scythe in your direction. It lands harmlessly nearby, but before Kahan can use logic or finish a sentence, a man calls out, "I have not dined on blood today, but by the gods, we shall not fall to your evil magic!"

You see his form utilizing a bizarre whipsword. He whips it until it snaps into a straight sword blade. Then he holds it between both hands in front of him and begins marching toward you with no signs of fear.

"We mean you no harm." Tahldar says as he attempts to cast a spell to sway the man from wishing to fight them.

OOC: I will try charm person on the man with the whipsword.  Saving vs spell negates.  Range I think is 120 feet.

Tahldar talks and begins casting...

Another voice calls out in response to your first statement. It is a female voice, and you see the form standing by the tomb. It is a female Drow. "Passing through to where exactly?" she says.

Tahldar's spell fails.

Kahan looks to Tahldar and shrugs. "There is a gnomish village not far from here. We need the help of a healer there to craft a cure for the Black Curse, which we have all been afflicted with. Tell me, do you know of (whatever the name of that Drow man we found at the beginning of this storyline was)? He knew of our coming and tried to help us, but succumbed to the Curse before we could help him," Kahan asked, looking around to make sure this wasn't a ruse meant to lower their guard for an attack.

The figures stay back a bit, weighing your words.

The female voice says, "Where exactly is the village? By that I mean approximate bearing and distance. Tell me about this curse. How is it transmitted? And what doom does it bring?"

Kahan gives a rough approximation of where the village is, asking Geebo or Sark (if he knows) for directions. "I do not know much about the Black Curse, I admit. We are not from this planet. It is a long story, but if you come out of the fog we can talk, although I do not fault you for your caution, as I do not how how the disease is transmitted. We know of a cure, that is why we must return to the village, to find an elder gnome who knows how to make it with the ingredients we found," he explains. "We really must hurry, though, I do not know how much longer we, or the gnomes who are afflicted, will survive the disease."
