Well, you know how older folks feel about music. Everything was better back when they were younger. The stuff the kids are into these days is just noise! I imagine the same holds true for a lot of our more... fully matured gamers.

I'm sure. Like a Minecraft landscape. The farther way it is, the better it looks.
The human mind has selective memory and those games when things were new are now MYTHIC.
All the fumbling and confusion has been forgotten and just the high points are remembered.
This makes it very difficult for any new game to compete.

Back In The Day, everyone fumbling around trying out the new game was part of the group experience. Now it is just annoying.

list goes on..... In the  end...and? Again i have said this before,  a GM  should pick i  genre  he wants to play in...run the game how  he wants it run if he was the  player..give  some small input from players  for flavor, and...most of  all keep the game moving.

Younger 'butterfly' folks will always hop from game to game.. one of the vets here  said  'the new shiny"...

::chuckles:: that could be a thread all by itself?  There   are   generes  i have , that i have looked for, but  most of the GMs/DMs  don't  advertise... and some that are advertised, i happened not to pick the right selection to bring up games.

::shurgs:; that's fine though, sooner or later a game will show up that i am interested in, that also  fits  my personal parameters... until then, I cursive along as i am now.

My best friend and I are without a car. That's bad, but not what I'm venting about. She (my friend) had to work today, and needed a ride. So through some difficulty she got one to work. Well, no one would give her a ride home, and taxis didn't run. So she waited until 4 PM (she got off at 11 AM) and someone gave her a ride. They stopped at grocery store, and my friend was fine with that. She got some butter and waited for him and his girlfriend. Well, it was getting close to 5, so she called the guy, and asked "hey, how much longer do you need" and he replied "Oh, we left about an hour ago, we couldn't find you. Sorry" and hung up.

By then she was able to get a taxi, but it was so infuriating. She could have gotten a taxi @4 but figured her coworker would be better. So she ended up working at her expense; as she works two part time jobs. Her other job, which she had more hours at, is great! This one, however, really don't have the same cooperation. She was supposed to work Christmas eve, but couldn't. We had no car. They wanted her to take a taxi both way, which definitely would have COST her to go. It was ridiculous.

I get that they wanted someone to be there...but they had two people are stand by. Soooooo....I'm not really sure why they took five hours before they accepted "I can't come in". Anyway, just pissed me off. My friend is really agitated too. She was supposed to be home for lunch, and is just now eating dinner. :/

So the fam's under quarantine - no biggie, there's instacart to get the things we need! Right?

First experience, with the grocery store? No problem. Everything was there (or suitably replaced), and it was a pretty decent experience, albeit a costly one - but hey, under the circumstances beggars can't be choosers. Overall, positive.

...until today, when my infant woke up sick, and we were short on Infants' Tylenol. No problem! We have 2 more free deliveries and Instacart will do drugstore deliveries, too! So I place an order for 10 - only 10! - items, tip $20 to the person that's really doing me a favor right now, and sit back to wait.

Newsflash, Instacart shoppers: Infants' Tylenol is *NOT* the same thing as Childrens' Tylenol. Bringing me two bottles of Childrens' instead of the one bottle of each that I ordered is not a proper replacement (nor was it indicated as such on the order form).

So, now my spouse (closest to having their quarantine over) has to break quarantine to go get the baby his medicine, because someone decided to be stupid. I do not appreciate having to do something reckless, because someone else didn't pay attention.

Also, siderant, FFS why do literally zero delivery people put packages on the table that sits next to my front door, raised off the ground and under the porch overhang? Every, last, single, one of them puts the packages on the ground (sometimes with the added bonus of being directly in front of the door so that I can't open it), where they're splattered by rain instead of being dry on the table. Is this really such a difficult concept that I need to put up a sign that says 'Please put packages on the table?' Like - it's right there. Literally, right there, not 8 inches from the door. RIGHT. THERE.

Yes you have to put up such a sign. I got one next to both a bench and table in such a place. Prior to that I was lucky if they put it behind the wall and the space the bench is in. Cause delivery people tend toward lazy. A very few will knock or let you know they are there.
Now I use Instacart myself and have had the Stupid happen a few times. But for me its people who can't tell the difference between a Large frozen food item and the Family size (or worse LARGE FAMILY size). So far have not had much trouble getting the meds I ask for but other things, oh yes.
Example this morning I ordered breakfast via doordash, the lids on the coffee were not sealed, scalded my hands trying to get them out of the bag. THis mistake came from the people in the restraunt not double checking themselves (also left out my ordered cream and sugar).
Yesterday, same restraunt, sent me a slice of cheese instead of the chicken bisquet I ordered, no idea what was going through their minds there. (if anything really).

I'm lucky. I don't have a sign, but about half my packages make it to the small table next to my door, anyhow.

Unless it's pouring rain (or melting snow), of course, in which case they wind up in the puddle that forms in front of my door.

I'm finding a whole new, very subtle kind of stress in the pandemic... currently two my best friends have Covid, and a third friend has been exposed. The ones who have it are both morbidly obese, with some other potentially complicating factors. One is a hardcore anti-vaxxer, masker, etc. etc. The other is vaccinated and has had her booster. I'm a bit less worried about the latter one.

Then I get a call from my mother last night, and she says she and my step-father both have it (they're in their 80s). Given her rabid addiction to conspiracy theories, they're not vaccinated and have elected to use... less conventional treatments.

So last night my not-uncommon insomnia had a whole new thing to put on spin-cycle in my brain, and it was just a bit more agitating than the usual things. I got 2 hours of sleep. I'm awake now, but I really hate days when I spend the afternoon dozing off at the keyboard.

And there's still that niggling little bit of anxiety rattling around in my head, that is proving very difficult to ignore. :P

While it might not help, they are adults and are allowed to make their own, maybe misguided, decisions. Don't add personal guilt to everything else.

I have a close neighbor personally finding out that Covid is not "Fake News". Not easy to watch but you can't save the world. You can only help the world by not requiring it to save you.

That's not a problem. Yep, they're adults, and it's all their own decisions. I'll give them my opinion, but they're the ones living their lives, so they make the choices for them.

Doesn't mean I won't miss them if the worst happens. They're important people in my life.

Just found out this afternoon the friend who's had shots was also given the Pfizer anti-viral (her doctor had to hunt around to find a pharmacy with it), and said she started feeling better immediately after it started kicking in. She's out of quarantine on Wednesday. The unvaccinated friend isn't doing as well; she went to the ER and was sent home to take asprin and rest. Evidently, the anti-viral pills aren't widely available in our state.

And today the exposed friend started having symptoms. She's been vaccinated, but her booster was scheduled for today... not happening now. So, I've got another week or two on the emotional roller coaster, until this all shakes out.

There's a very great deal of mistrust as a result of the last election; and it's contributing in an unprecedented way to exacerbate the whole situation.   And it's not just the "conspiracy nuts" that share that mistrust; I know of at least one medical professional who feels the same way.

So, it's not quite the open and shut case it could be.

I also have the issue with packages being left; as a result of living in a questionable neighborhood and my door opening right to the sidewalk.  If I'm not here to get it, I usually don't; though the Amazon drivers at least know to knock when they make a delivery.

So, I have just had the dice rolling nadir of my existence.

Bit of context, I've been playing NWOD on RPOL for about eleven years now and I've maybe got about 7-8% of my rolls as 10s on their online roller, so a few fewer re-rolled successes than I'd perhaps average. Ho-hum, such is life.

Ironsworn has a system where you roll a D6, add your modifiers, and your success depends on whether you exceed either of the D10s that the game rolls against you. Exceed one, you get a partial success, exceed both, you get a full success.

Given we've just started out, my modifiers are all between 1-4, so the maximum I can hit at this point is 10, and if it's a draw, then I lose out. So I really want the dice roller to give me 9s, maximum.

I have five rolls to make to achieve my aim - Climb a ledge, circle round, jump out, stab a bloke, resolve the combat. Each has me rolling a D6 and the game rolling their 2 D10s.

Bearing in mind this is the same roller, and bearing in mind my 7-8% of historic 10s, my challenge rolls were  as follows:

1, 10
10, 6
9, 10
7, 10
10, 3

I am currently unsure whether to laugh or weep. But I also know that I'm not flipping a coin to decide, because my luck at the moment is something else.

I went to sign up for something a while back, I don't recall exactly what.   But when it wanted both my phone number and my birthdate; I was like...NOPE!  Shut that down.

I don't like having to practically give out so much personal information for what is otherwise an anonymous service...it's an enormous security risk, and the trend is only getting worse.  I don't want to trade my security just because it makes things easier for others, especially others who'd rather exploit it.

Mother's maiden name, where you went to school, the city you were born, name of your first pet. They _need_ these.

Well, basically, pretty much everywhere in the world at one time or another.

History repeats because it works out so well for the winners, usually. Fully 3 continents of the 6 with habitations (ie: half the world) are fully developed tody because of Humanity's need to take someone else's land.

Why is anyone surprised it's still going on? Especially those folks benefiting from it today?

Not surprised. Humans are involved. We do have a history of being aggressive.

Just disappointed that we spend so much time and energy pushing each other out of spinning the same old wheel when there is an entire universe to expand into.
