I'm curious if there are other fans of The Fantasy Trip hanging around? Hove you ever tried running a game using that system over RPoL?

beem a log time fan, i played in a few games on Yahoo, that others  ran as well.

I tried to  run   the game here  a couple times, but...i'm no good   with maps, so i tried to make in  a RP  game without the Hexes?

they players couldn't wrap thier heads  around it, so i switched to a D&Dish version, that had some of  TFT in it.... and finally i switched ovcer ot my own system which is  alot  simple and cleaner.

If there was a real simple and quick way to make hexboard  maps  and  change them, i think it would do great here.

A couple of map tools were mentioned in my thread "Miniature Movement in Skirmish Type Games Too Difficult?" that may be what you would need for TFT play.

For a "Wizard Duel" I ran (GURPS Fantasy) I grabbed the TFT Mega Hexes from the pdfs, made copies, tweaked one to be blank, and just "built my own maps using MS Paint.  It wasn't pretty, it wasn't efficient, but it was simple and relatively fast.  There are loads of sprite based furniture all over the web, you can also find hex-based map generators around, though I find they can be fiddly.

Going "Theatre of the Mind" route can be "easier" but it puts more work on you as GM to be impeccable with your descriptions.  The more detailed your descriptions, the easier it is to run and adjudicate.

Thank you for the feedback. :)

I remember seeing a pretty good text map of a hex grid in the Haven forum. If I ever decide to run this system I'll probably bust that one out. Maybe add some coordinates to it as well.

I'm not sure how you can run Theater of the Mind with TFT. It seems like the hexes are so baked into the system from Melee and Wizard that it would be very difficult to change that.

i just used  'yards' instead of 'hexes'. a couple players had   no problems, and  we sorta  doane  away  with facing.

But, you  have to  be firm on what they are doing   to get the same  feel.. D&D  does it?...TFT  shouldn't be  punished for being a Tactical RP game.

as a  side  note, i  was a backer for   SJ   brining it back..however, at my  age  i just have the massive box of really neat stuff and no one to play!

I backed it too, despite not liking it's... 'crude simplicity'.  But it's Evil Stevie's baby and I wanted to see what the revamp would look like and what I could mine from it.

But I'm really not fan of the system.  It needs some more levers, dials, and subsystems for me... but at which point it's basically GURPS and we already have that so...  ;)

Re: Any Fans of The Fantasy Trip Here?

yep..gurps is the child of TFT... i use my own ideas  off  that for my homebrew system i use in my games.

also? Darkcity games, if they are still around, is TFT with some  tweaks, still uses  hexbaord..the  guy who was behind it  was a Navy Seal, i talked to him on Yahoo a few times, when my sun made a run at  The Seals.. i am still a FB  friend with him

for  Spacegamer..the  mag for  Metagaming, i wrote  some stuff, but they were never published.

I  made a Multi-level, 'ever changing" quest for  Dark City games,  but  me  and the company's  editor didn't quite hit it off and it was sent back to be to 're-edit'... My  late wife was on the tail end of her  fight with cancer, so i never  did  resend it...

But?  i have played it  with my kids  and they were young adults  at the time, they liked how  some rooms cganged from game to game.

ahh well..this  is off the tack, but good memories!..wish it would have been published!
