Goodbye, sweet kitten

I lost my cat today. 13 years old :(. We've had her since she was an itty bitty kitten. She had been getting a little thin and hadn't been eating but other than that seemed fine then this morning she was in really bad shape. We took her in and that was that. It came so suddenly it really caught me by surprise.

It just hurts. I'll be fine but right now it is too much. I don't expect much sharing this here but I've found that expressing myself helps me process. Thanks in advance for any well wishes and sorry if I dumped a big downer on your day. I am trying to move through the grief as quickly as possible so I can get on to celebrating her life.

She would sit in my lap for hours just purring away while I pet her. She would patiently tolerate me bumping her as I typed on this forum which makes rpol a big reminder of her to me.

It's funny the things we come to associate with one another. I draw solace from the idea that the depth of pain that I feel in her absence is a mirror reflection of the years of joy she brought me.

Goodbye, sweet kitten

I totally understand how you feel. I lost one of my kits a year ago this memorial day.
Even now a year later I miss him and I imagine it will be the same for you and your loving kit.
Always sad when a companion passes away.
I am sending you some possitive thoughts praguepride, that you will have less stress for a time.

Goodbye, sweet kitten

It is sad they don't live longer.
I imagine they had a good life while they did.
There are many people who would exchange places.

Sorry for your loss. Just went through this around a month ago with our last female cat. Sad thing her and the boys outlived all their offspring. I still swear times I feel I hear her or look at one of her favorite spots and see her.

Goodbye, sweet kitten

Very sorry for your loss.  Pets leave a big gaping hole behind; my theory is that as time passes, the hole starts to shrink until all that is left is enough room to keep the happy memories of your pet.

Goodbye, sweet kitten

I'm so sorry for the loss of your family member!

We lost one about a year ago.  She had bad teeth when she came to us, but the vet didn't recommend surgery, they didn't think she had good odds of surviving an operation.  Then she developed diabetes and we lived with that for a couple of years, but suddenly something about the combination of issues escalated and she became so sick we knew we had to let her go, rather than let her suffer while we waited for her to die without intervention.  RIP Annabelle, we miss you, and I also think more often again of Speed Bump who left us many years ago.

It is possible to love again though.  Toby came to us a surprisingly short time later.  It was just too lonely here and with my increasing health issues I knew if we didn't get another cat while I was still sure I could care for it, I wouldn't dare try later in case I found out I couldn't do it.

Remember the good times, and that your pet knew she was loved and cared for.  They may only be with us for a short time, but in that time they enrich our lives - and provide entertainment!

Goodbye, sweet kitten

Our menagerie of felines has grown to ten over the years, all rescues, most coming to us as kittens.

We've been going through the slow decline of one our Beauregard for the past several months. He has a problem affecting liver, kidneys and intestines that prevent him from thriving. We keep hoping for a turnaround but... Fortunately, it hasn't begun to diminish his quality of life, so we just keep up his daily regimen of meds and enjoy him while we can.

Our Toby had a sudden aneurysm that took him in a matter of hours some years ago. Our Molly succumbed to a heart murmur after slowly failing for several years. It's always tough to lose them. But they are never really gone from our thoughts and our feels.

Best wishes.

My sympathies- we lost both of our kitties last year, and our Zaria was a similar sweetheart. The joy they bring is worth the pain they leave, but that doesn't make the pain any less.

Goodbye, sweet kitten

I've never had a cat, but have very fond memories of several that my friends have had.  The loss isn't the same when it's not yours...but it still hurts.  Hopefully, your cat is in whatever kind of pet-heaven there is, playing tag with the pigeon I rescued (who never fully recovered from a broken wing, which was how I ended up with him), and enjoying sunny walks through tall grass with my horses, and occasionally teasing my dog.  They've all held special places in my heart, and most of them were part of my life for years and years.

And, yes, talking about it helped me then...and still helps me now, even though I've been pet-less for half a decade...I just haven't felt like I could give a pet the kind of attention it deserved, no matter what it was.

Goodbye, sweet kitten

I just said good-bye to one my best friends' cats last Thursday. Rushed down after my PT and arrived minutes before the injections started. Pasqual wasn't mine, but he was still family, and loved demanding my attention when I was over. He'd had diabetes for years, but this spring started going downhill hard. He was about 18, originally a barn cat when she had a boarding stable. She took the two cats with her when she sold the place, and they became house cats. He was the last one.

My friend still has two, Catalina, a mutt Himalayan (who adores me, which makes her husband jealous!), and Solita, a cat that someone must have dumped in the desert nearby. My friend's husband slowly won her trust over a year, then this past winter started allowing her in "just at night, because it's cold out." Solita's now a housecat again. (And I avoid interacting with her; the hubby would get really bent if she ditched him for me the way Catalina does!)

I've currently got three at home, all offspring from the feral colony I used to have at my old house.

Goodbye Shadow Punkin, our sweet boy died on Fri.

A cool cat, who had the nickname Tickle Toes. We now only have his bro left.

I'll always remember Shadow and still find myself crying over his passing

I'm so sorry about the loss of your cat.  I lost my Timmy, my 18-year-old cat, less than a month ago.  It was very sudden, going from, "he seems a little off/odd, let's take him to the vet" to a terrible phone call soon after that there was nothing to be done.  He was a constant companion to both my husband and I, and we miss him terribly.

How old was Pumpkin?

We lost one cat last year in weird circumstances due to a dog attack, and another is old enough to worry about him every day. It sucks that they only live such a short time.

We lost Speed Bump to cancer when she was probably pre-teen, my daughter lost Molly at late teens, Annabelle was early teens but she'd had health issues for a long time
