I am noob?

So I joined about a week ago and have posted to 3 different player wanted threads seeking admission. I haven't gotten a response on any. My question is this, am I doing something wrong/can't get mail yet because I'm so new or am I just not getting responses?

Thanks in advance for any input.

I am noob?

Are you posting in the thread with the ad or are you going into the game and hitting the request access button.

GM's will never check their ad threads but the RTJ's come as a PM in the game.

I am noob?

In the advertising thread, there is an information box at the top, which contains a link to the game.  Go to the game, and look for a request access link.  That will let you send a PM to the game's owner.

Heya there and welcome to RPol, you'll find anything you want here and so many great games from freeform to about any system game you like.

Most GMs only check those ad threads once a week or even less for some so you will get sadly missed.  Either clicking on the game link or rmailing them is the best way to let them know you are interested. :)

A few tips for you are below:-

Make sure you turn on your rmail by going to the link at the top that is User preferences, there you will find some settings to play around with including the rmail one as that is how you and most GMs can talk.

On the main menu there are two forums you can find what you want to play in

Wanted: players At the top there is a link that is 'Search Games' and when you click on those words it gives you a more distinct search area for what you are looking for.

Wanted: GMs where you can make a post describing the type of games you are looking for and GMs check there for new players sometimes.

At the bottom of the main menu you will also find search link to find games and other good stuff.

So all I can say now is

HAPPY GAMING!!

You rmail GMs? I've never had a player rmail me for access.

Click the link to get into the game. It is the hyperlinked game title at the top center of the page "This is an advertisement for the game [hyperlink of the game's title]"

Clicking the hyperlink will take you to a public area of the game. Very often GM's will have a public facing "RTJ requirements" or "application requirements" thread that you can read and follow to know what they are expecting out of an RTJ (Request to Join, your application to the game).

There is a button in the top and bottom right corners that reads "Request access" it will generate a Private Message to the GM and you can send them a message. If they are a GM that has messed with all the buttons enough to find it their expectations for your RTJ will also be at the top of that page.

RTJ requirements for a game I ran looked like this. (Sorry this is the most D&D like thing I had in my tableau of still born or yet to be kicked off games.)
quote:
Desired Character Name: I'll assign you a generic one if you don't have it fleshed out yet.

High Concept: It should basically be your race and class, possibly put in a creative way. Gorilla Warrior is fine, Silverback Berserker is better.

Trouble: Something that gets your character into trouble. Could be an addiction, a disability, being old or young, enemies you made, people you know, entities you sold your soul to...

Role: This is basically what you do and extends to your role in the party. Defender of the Weak, Gentle Healer, Graceful Diplomat all make sense. It is basically ensuring that you are doubling down on one subset of your High Concept.

Your 'Swan Sorcerer or the Five Petals' could also be the party's 'Boisterous Frontman' or their 'Arcane Tinker'

Backstory: I understand backstory is tough with a custom world I'm happy to work with you on details. I'll dish out more character knowledge about the world if you are natively from far off. Leave some openings for other players to hook into you and to you to hook into them once you are added.

Experience: Mutants and Masterminds, D&D/PF experience. I am open to any and all comers but I still need to know so my messages are appropriate.

Posting Rate: The usual. I'm requiring about 3-4 times per week.

And an RTJ from a player would look like this.

quote:
Desired Character Name: Hopper

High Concept: Noble Gun Bunny

Trouble: Too nosy for his own good

Role: Ranged Damage dealer and Face

Backstory: Hopper is the heir to a merchant conglomerate of Hare anthros. He has been raised to be able to take over the company some time, and an arranged marriage is already in the works. However Hopper wanted to see the world on it's own to better understand how to make the company flourish. That and he had a calling for adventure. He had always been drawn to the technology of firearms, as it allowed his people an edge against the bigger and stronger anthros out there. So packing up a couple firearms he journeyed out to see the world.

Experience: I am a total noob but I really like this game concept

Posting Rate: I usually have time to post on Mondays and Fridays.

There isn't really a stigma against new players that I have seen. But GM's can be sticklers about their RTJ format. If you apped for one of LadySharlyne's games and didn't include a 3 paragraph writing sample then your probably would not get in. Although most GM's are decent enough and would probably PM you back saying that you were missing a component. But it might be in a week when they check the status of the RTJ's.

As for the Wanted: GM's section. You can post there (I do, especially for the niche systems) but don't get your hopes up. It's really a pre-interest check for the community to let GM's know that people might be interested in their wierdo game idea. The rate that W:GM's threads actually turn into games is really low.

Re: I am noob?

If you get rejected for a game you could politely ask for feedback? Not everyone will answer your request but those that do would give you a clue as to what caused them to reject your application.

Just remember that nobody learned anything from succeeding first time. Keep trying.

Re: I am noob?

Don't lose hope you will get there.

To Sir Swindle, I meant that if they got no answer with a request to join then they could rmail the GM from the Wanted Player Ad.  I have players rmail me before they rtj often by the way.  I am sure others do to.
