Longtime 5e DnD GM, new to PbP, hopefully player

Heya all,

now that I'm freer in my life (let's hope for a long time), I can finally try PbP and see how things go. Here's what you might wanna know:

I'd be willing to be DM, always am, but I have no experience in PbP so I'd rather start as a player in whatever system first.

I usually like focus to be on character and worldbuilding, but I'm not the best at keeping plots sensical, so take-notes players are always lifesavers for me.

As player, I dislike PvP generally, but will use it as story tool if appropriate.

I hope I get to create memorable scenes with you all,
and may the dice be with us

Longtime 5e DnD GM, new to PbP, hopefully player

Greetings and welcome to the best PbP on the web(of course that’s my opinion)!

A wise thought to be a player before a DM!  There are many system games and freeform games on this site.  To search there is a search link on the main page.  It’s user friendly.  Then the two biggee Forums are 1.  WANTED: Players where GM/DMs advertise their games when looking for players; 2. WANTED: GMs Wanted where players such as yourself can post a short description of what kind of games you are looking for.

What’s great about this site is you only need one login for this site and it lasts a lifetime.  Other sites make you have an email and login for every single characters you have.  If you have more than one login for this sight you will get banned.

Its a good time now for you to read the rules and be familiar with them.  Especially if you plan on joining any Adult games (Adult is usually still story based not sexually based.)

Don’t be afraid to ask questions.  The Community Forum is best fir that as more players will reach out to you with answers.  Someone always has the answer..  remember we were all new here once. ; )

You can join as many games you want and if it doesn’t fit your needs politely PM the GM and say so and they will remove you.  Just always tell them you are leaving.  Never Ghost/disappear without a word that’s just rude.

You can play as many characters in a game that the GM allow.

Don’t worry about how many games a GM has deleted because sometimes you try and it just didn’t take off.  A good thing to remember if you create a game and it doesn’t take off then at least you have tried.  So you try creating another and see how it goes.

Its best to treat each game that perks your interest by contacting the GM either with a request to join or an Rmail.  Sometimes you need to speak to site Admin and this can also be done in Rmail.

We are all here to have fun so start enjoying yourself!  Adult games have a one time two week wait due to web legalities.  That two weeks goes faster than you think too!

Happy Gaming!

If face to face roleplay is a firehose of roleplay, play by post is an IV drip.  Welcome aboard!

Fair warning these are not equally valid options. You are far far far more likely to see play if you go find a game than waiting for someone to offer one.

contacting the GM either with a request to join or an Rmail.

Similarly here. Send an RTJ, the site makes it very easy to add a character from an RTJ than from an rmail.

You do that by following the link to the game from the Wanted: players board and then hitting request to join up in the top right (or where ever it is in mobile).

But ya, like pdboddy said. PBP is typically fairly glacial in pace. My best advice is that there is very rarely a situation where you are posting too much.
