Re: bringing old and new together

That just sounds lame. I wouldn't go mucking about with the nWoD attributes and leave them as is. The only thing people want from oWoD is the setting and fluff, Everyone I know say the mechanics were horrible. Since Onyx Publishing came out with the God Machine Rules updates, all the gripes of nWoD mechanics seemed to vanish.

If you want to bring new and old together I'd start with one setting and try to bring it under nWoD rules. But that could be impossible.

Re: bringing old and new together

With the Onyx Path, cWoD games are getting updates and even new material.

If you want to convert cWoD to nWoD, there are translation guides available to convert characters from one system to to the other, and vice versa.  I am pretty sure Vampire, Werewolf and Mage have such guides, with others on the way.  Check DriveThruRPG.

Re: bringing old and new together

I just want to be sure I understand what you're saying. You're saying that right now it looks like this

Mental
Physical
Social
PowerIntelligence 1Strength 1Presence 1
FinesseWits 1Dexterity 1Manipulation 1
ResistanceResolve 1Stamina 1Composure 1

But you want to switch Presence for Charisma and change Composure and Resolve so it looks like

Mental
Physical
Social
PowerIntelligence 1Strength 1Charisma 1
FinesseWits 1Dexterity 1Manipulation 1
Resistance____ 1Stamina 1____ 1

If Composure and Resolve become Virtues, then what goes in the other two spaces for Attributes? And where does Courage go?

I think that swapping Charisma and Presence is fine if you want them to work the same way.

I also think Composure works as being the crosspoint of Social Resistance. It's your character's bearing and ability to avoid getting swept up in someone else's emotions. Same for Resolve being Mental Resistance.

Let me know if I'm not seeing what you see.

Re: bringing old and new together

Willpower always worked for anything along the lines of composure + ?

And apperance is often an important factor, sad true, but lot of vain people out there

Getting rid of perception is about as bad

The other alernitive would be keeping everything and adding a 4th physical stat like splitting stanima into two stats, one for taking hits and general body derabity, and the other for lasting power

Sorry, I'm still not getting what you mean.

If you want to use Willpower instead of Composure, then you could totally streamline it and go without Resolve (Mental Willpower) and Stamina (Physical Willpower) too. Kind of drastic, but I'm trying to understand how you use Willpower.

Presence isn't Appearance and you can take a Merit to improve a character's appearance.

You get your Perception from Wits + Composure or Wits + the appropriate Skill.

-- OWoD: a character with high Perception was Sherlock Holmes. He takes in everything all the time. Never misses a beat.

-- NWoD: you have the people that post in Community Chat about how much they hate bad grammar, but miss punctuation in the very same post. (No hate. I love RPoL's Community Chat and it takes all of us to make a community. ^_^ )

NWoD Perception can be easily tailored so a character would be especially razor sharp in some areas and lacking in others. I really like this. It works for the kind of game I like to play.

How do you like to play? I want to understand how your changes work for you. Head's up, I'm about to get ready for work. So if I don't answer you back in the next half hour, please don't feel ignored. ^_^

Re: bringing old and new together

Charisma is the same as preasence not apperance

And perception was also the primary stat for ranged attacks.

The threw out perception and apperance though so they could implement the whole power/finesse/resistance to make things easier

Personally I think cWoD was easy enough and didn't need simplified.

I've not looked at the god machine rule changes but nWoD has things I like that they added but the things they changed up I'm not so happy with. I just think there is a way to add the new ideas in nWoD with cWoD system stuff for something better

Size+stanima=health levels is rather brilliant from the STs side of things.  Hard to kill monsters usaly have high stanima and/or are big anyway... Instead of having to tack on artificial health levels it just has them already. I had artificially inflated a chars health levels to 20 with those rules though it would naturally be ~20 in his crinos like form.

I do like resolve and composure but I don't like ditching apperance and perception for it

That and the nice thing about going to a willpower roll instead is the number fluctuates

Of course getting those as Vurties that fluctuate would be a bit to much for some people, like the ones that see mummy or kindred of the east books and run screaming lol
