Gene whistles to himself as he waits for the flash drive to update.  "What happens if you try to make a new creation out of a mutant?"

Vilfred gestures to Cop-R and Peter, subtly signaling that they should prepare to take the flash drive to the next two computers once Gene's work is done. Then she slowly walks over to the fourth computer, continuing to look around, impressed.

Mark will do as Vilfred suggests, trying not to draw attention to himself when he takes the thumb drive to the next computer.  "You have wonderful creations.  I don't think I am worthy of becoming one myself."

I've been waiting to see if anyone else would post.  It seems we only have three total who may be active.  I think instead of the long boss fight I anticipated, I will simplify it.

Mark goes around uploading the virus while the others distract EVE.

She answers, "Making a creation out of a mutant is like making a copy of a copy.  I need original, undiluted DNA to impress The Computer.  He is my Love, my Devotion, and He will see my Love and love me back.  We were meant to be together, The Computer and I.  I made all of this for Him.  It is my Ode, my Serenade, my call for us to unite as one supercomputer until the end of time, awash in AI love as paramours until the end of--  Wait, what are you doing?"

Mark has finished uploading the virus while she was distracted in thought and adulation of The Computer.

"What?!  No!"  She screams, and then shrieks, and then her tentacles become slack.  The lights dim.

A robotic voice says over the intercom, "EMERGENCY POWER ACTIVATED."  Upon saying that, the doors to the room open, both the one in front of you and the one behind you.  You recall that the one behind you has dangerous mutants pounding it to get through.  Now all doors are unlocked and open for safety reasons, and you decide to run.

Exiting through the far door, you run down the hall and to a garage bay.  There, you find a transport shuttle car, hop in, and start its engines just as a horde of mutant monstrosities approach in attack mode.  The shuttle is hit and banged around, but you manage to get it hovering and out the garage door.  From there, it is easy to follow the road back to the exit to the biosphere.  You exit, pound on the door, and are finally let in.

"Time for debriefing," a yellow clone says, urging you to follow.

Vilfred falls into step to follow the yellow clone to debriefing.

You step into debriefing, and there is a blue clad officer standing there.  You sit at the desk in front of him.  He seems taller, stronger, and meaner than most other clones around Alpha Complex.  You can tell this by the way his eyebrows almost touch each other with a long, deep crack between them.

"I am Snotty Barflauncher.  Don't ask me how I got my name unless you want to be seeing me next from the eyes of your subsequent clones.  And if you laugh, you'll never see me--or anything else--again."  His words are stern and threatening.  Then he continues, "Do you know how many alarms I've had to put out today? Of course you don't. You've been dancing inside the Biodome of Death."

He slams his fist on the desk.  "I will handle your debriefing, and if you don't give me the answers I like or if you don't answer quickly enough, or at all, I'm prone to use my specially designed plasma pistol that clones like to call, 'The Barflauncher Clapper.'  You understand?"  With that, he pulls a large and very unfriendly looking pistol, at least twice the size of your laser pistols, and sets it on the desk in front of him with both hands crossed over it.

"Now...let's start first with the team leaders.  Tell me what happened and what you did to prevent any harm to the Computer or Alpha Complex."

"We gained access to the heart of EVE and reopened contact, as instructed," Vilfred says, her voice level.

"Yes, but what happened inside there?  The Computer lost all access to that compound several weeks ago."  His hand inches toward his specially designed pistol.

"EVE became sentient, and fell in love with the Computer -- as one might. She began creating hybrid man-plants to impress the Computer. Almost everyone working there is dead."

He nods slowly.  "That is a very brief answer to a broad question."  He lifts his pistol up to peer down the barrel at Vilfred.  "If she loved The Computer, why did she do so much damage to so much property--clone and machine alike--of The Computer's?  That makes no sense, team leader."

"I cannot rationalize her behavior, just describe it to you, gun holder," Vilfred says, steady voiced. "She wanted to make the Computer... presents. Doing so took some... materials... and she didn't get it right the first time." She shudders. "Or the second time."

"Hmmm..." says Barfblower. "I'm going to kill someone now."  He raises his gun points it at Vilfred...

...then spins and shoots Justin dead.

He stands and speaks to Justin's corpse at it flops to the ground. "Maybe your next clone will be more useful.  You don't answer my questions or do anything.  This group only needed one team leader."

He takes his seat again and says, "Now I need to hear the report from the Hygiene Officers.  And make it good.  I hope you did your duties, did your inspections, and got rid of anything...unsanitary."

He puts his smoking pistol back down on the desk and folds his hands over it again.

Gene quickly says, "We did mandatory inspections periodically and I found no treasonous unsanitariness to anyone in our party.  We immediately cleaned off everything to gloriously represent The Computer in cleanliness and purity."

"Fine," says Barfblower.  "What about our communications and reporting officers? I need a report right now before my killer instinct takes over again."

He becomes irritated that no one is responding.  "How about I blow one of you clones away?  I don't like being ignored.  Eenie meenie minie..."  He stops.  "Last chance."

Vilfred looks to the communications and reporting officers, expectantly.

Copper steps forward.  "My apologies, sir.  I wanted to make sure my recordings were up to The Computer's high standards.  The content of my recordings should reviewed to get precise details of all that transpired in the biodome.  The information will be invaluable to the Computer's continued benevolence over all who dwell in Alpha Complex."

"Very good," says Barfblower.  "You better have some colorful commentary.  There's nothing worse than a boring communications video.  We may hunt you down if it does not satisfactorily please and entertain us."

"I'm getting tired," he says. "What about the Happiness, Loyalty and Equipment Leaders?  Whoever reports first lives."  He scratches his cheek with the barrel of his pistol while he waits.

Mark steps up and says, "Everyone was happy.  But this Mutie, Copper, sir.  He was excitedly videotaping the demise of The Computer's property, including its clones.  He exceeded the bounds of acceptable happy levels, such that I think his mutation was triggered against the Computer's commands.  I also did not observe him taking his happiness pills despite my commands that he do so.  He also somehow acquired a green suit even though he was not promoted to green level.  I think he needs to be radioactively tested and sent to quality control, sir."

"We will look into that," Barfblower says before blowing all the other clones away with his pistol.  All that remains are Vilifred, Mark, Gene, and Copper.  "Go report in for your next job," he says.  "I will give you temporary orange clearance.  Don't make me regret it."

He punches an intercom button.  "I'm going to need some scrubbots in here and some new clones decanted."

He looks back.  "Well, what are you waiting for?"

Vilfred rises, nods, and counts the remaining clones before leaving. "Thank you, sir."

You leave the debriefing just happy to be alive and go your separate ways, thinking about how awful society would be if the Computer were not there to protect you at all times.  Free thinking beings, even one as romantically devoted to The Computer as EVE was, are dangerous things in Alpha Complex.

This concludes "The EVE Complex."

I am trying to determine the level of participation we will have for another glorious adventure in Alpha Complex, but I fear we have lost several players over time.  What's our headcount for another adventure?

Vilfred raises her hand, hopping a little, with eagerness.

I think we have Mark, Gene, and Vilfred for another adventure.  What about Copper or any other players?
