In reply to Bannacor (msg # 1):

I've only run 3rd and 4th and I gave my 3rd ed books to friends long ago.  So I'm not offering to run, just posting to start up a small conversation.

I have not wanted to invest in 5th ED HOWEVER, I do love the Greyhawk setting.

Were you wanting to do a Solo adventure or were you willing to group up?

If you end up going for 5E, count me in as another player. Especially if you're interested in running with other Rogues in the group.

Greyhawk Thieves Guild

I have always wanted to explore the Thieves Guild aspect in the Free City of Greyhawk and the surrounding areas. Thieves in a traditional adventuring party are little more then the find the trap/disarm the trap, sneak ahead and scout for the group. While there is nothing wrong with that, I was just looking for something different.

I think it would be interesting to rp a Thief or a group of Thieves working for the Guild of Thieves in Greyhawk.  But I am good with solo or a group in that setting.

While I appreciate you good folks responding, we have no GM, not yet anyway.

I'd definitely be in as a player, I even have a character in mind that will be something decidedly different for a thieves guild. As much as I'd be willing to GM, I just don't have the time at present.

Wow, we have a cast for a play without a Director. If this was a table top group,I would be tempted to GM this. But I stink at trying to run something RPOL for many reasons. Here is hoping someone comes by and picks up the gauntlet of this idea.

 Have a great days folks

I have been using second edition AKA Advanced Dungeons and Dragons since 1984. I only bought the fifth edition players hand book,so I could play in a now defunct FITH edition game.

I might be able to DM it for 5E, but I won't be able to get started on it for about 4+ weeks. I've got a lot of personal and business travel coming up in the next few weeks, and won't have much time to put anything together during that time.

I got rid of all of my old books after I got into 5E, so I won't be able to play or run it in any other edition.

Bannacor, what specific style of game would interest you? Are you wanting to play a "Sopranos" with swords and spells style game, that focuses on the mob-like aspects of the Guild of Theives? That style of play would focus more on rivalries between the thieves of the various quarters, perhaps, and the tension of being criminals among the law abiding citizens of Greyhawk.

Or, are you more interested in a heist style game, that revolves around the planning and execution of various robberies and scams - maybe akin to a "Leverage" with swords and spells. This might be more episodic in nature, and feature relatively fewer politics and consequences than a "Sopranos" style game.

Also, are you keen to see the use of the various NPCs outlined in the various TSR supplements? Or are you open to new NPCs, new Guilds, new 'history' of Greyhawk being introduced?

What are your favorite parts of the Gem of the Flannaes that you'd like to see brought up / portrayed in the game?

 Greetings,

To begin with, thank you for answering my GM wanted add. You ask many pointed questions, and I shall do my humble best to answer them.

I have been rping off and on for decades. And in all that time, I have been the GM, DM, etc., for the old gang, and the new group I hooked up with a few years ago. I finally burned out a couple of years ago, and laid my DM screen down for the foreseeable future. Now I just want to be a player, and enjoy that side of the DM screen.

The above was part of my answer to your questions. All you bespoke of is what I wish to experience in any potential game. The intrigue within the guild, and the thrill of pulling off “jobs” in the city, and perhaps other locations. And yes, to the established Greyhawk characters, or those of your imagination.

Having been a long time GM, I have perspective from that side of the screen, so I am very flexible in response to your questions. The GM has to enjoy the experience as well the player or players.

I would like to experience the city of Greyhawk as a player, both above and below ground. I think there is enough there to keep us busy. However, if you want to take the plotline out of the city from time to time, I am good with that. The skies the limit.

Thank you, for your time, and attention. Cheers!

Cool. Thanks for the quick response. Let me mull it over and see if I can come up with a good story hook.

What's the status of this game? Did the potential DM not work out or are you still looking for new players? I could DM but haven't read anything on Greyhawk in years. Somewhere in storage I have the boxset and the 2nd edition Greyhawk book which did have much for the city it's self aside from a few NPCs. The Falcom series of modules had the most officially published city details, yes? Or is there lots of stuff online? Is that Canonfire site still active and do they cover the city?
