Discworld game?

Discworld game?

Having just bought the Discworld RPG (which uses a trimmed down version of GURPS) I'd love to try out a game. Alas my GM-fu is weak so I'd be happier as a player.

I have a few ideas that could be fun:

Unseen University undergrads (or junior faculty for a higher powered game), dealing with general university life and politics, accidentally (or intentionally) summoned critters, getting sent on suicide missions research expeditions to exotic locales and so on.

New Age Retro Barbarians, normal citizens of Ankh-Morpork who decided the old fashioned barbarian lifestyle is due a comeback and they are the ones to do it (think Njel the Destroyer from Sourcery.)

Different city, same problems. A City Watch type campaign outside of Ankh-Morpork. Genua, Al-Khali or Hung Hung could all be fun or a non-canon town could be getting its first taste of proper policing.

All the news that's fit to print (and then some), based on The Truth, the PCs would be intrepid reporters for a new newspaper getting into all sorts of problems.

So, any GM interested in running one of these - or an idea of their own?

I can't run another game right now, but I will eagerly jump in to play if someone else is willing to take the reins.

Discworld game?

I might be interested in running or playing a Discworld or Discworld-like game. I'm unfamiliar with GURPS (though I know OF it). Would using something other than GURPS be a dealbreaker?

The official (GURPS) book has a lot of system-neutral advice for running a campaign, but it probably isn't vital.

Almost any fantasy game could probably handle the rules really - the early books have some overt AD&D shoutouts. The atmosphere and setting are more important.

Of course choice of campaign style helps - a group of barbarian heroes runs differently to a game that never leaves Ankh-Morpork which in turn is different to one based around a coven of village witches.

In reply to RossN (msg # 1):

My GM-fu is a spend force, but I'd be up for playing a DW game. I've just been re-reading the late PTerry's works during my lunch breaks at work.

Having just finished Monstrous Regiment (better than I remember it), I'd suggest using that area as a setting over Ankh-Morpork, as although AM is probably the best developed resource it leaves less room for shenanigains without breaking the established canon, which makes die-hard fans like me want to throw my Wizzards hat and the ground and jump up and down on it.
