Solo Game

Looking for a game where a player can play solo. Am willing to consider any genre, as long as it is rules-based.

Solo Game

That casts a wide net! :) I had an idea for multi-solo Exalted 2.5 game, that really turned out to be a few solo games I couldn't handle. I could probably do a single solo game in that.

I could DM a D&D 4e game, if you don't mind playing a couple characters. I'd allow you to pick up NPCs you travel with you, and adjust encounters to your party size, or advertise "too hard" challenges as just that, and leave the encounters optional (if you think you can take them, or have a reason of your own to).

I could probably GM a card based combat game, though knowledge of one of the card games I know would be required (as I'm just not very good at explaining rules, and am in fact rusty on some micro-rules I often have to guess at). The rest of the game, the story, the non-combat conflict, the exploration options (flight, invisibility, teleportation, opening a lock at a lock, etc...) would be handled with dX. dX is rules set, and if HERO is at one end of the mechnics spectrum, DX is as far the opposite (toward freeform) I go. Many have called dX not rules-lite, which should be fine if you prefer a rules set. It's very much a point buy system; and unlike every other entry I made, it's legally free to download the pdf. It was advertised as free from its inception.

Story could vary some, but I really stick to what I've done and so know best. Medieval fantasy, monsters and exotic sentient hominids, like elves and dwarves. Worlds that have tyhe trappings of medieval society (using oil lamps and candle, black iron and steel) but also magic as technology (it's not carbon tubes, it's adamantine. It's not titanium its mithril.). There's also (sometimes) infrastructures much like contemporary real life. You might have an illusionist guild for a major noble, to broadcast information. Some of these illusionists may even set up plays, often ones already known to reach people in their home. Then some may use telepathy to mimic radio and telephone systems. Things like that, that can be explained by a need and a power to suit that need. I tend to stay away from too much cheese or campiness, because unlike most of the people I know, I was "eh" about Pratchet's discworld. Still, many people I know love Discworld, and hearing about it, I can appreciate some of works and stories within; if not wholesale, then piecemail at least.

Motivations for your character can be one of few things. Your character can have a noble calling; like helping people against ill forces; anything from bully ogres, to tyrannical kingdom/church. Your character could have a more inherently personal mission for revenge, that could turn merciful or downright cruel depending on the c character. Personal missions could also being a heist, winning a love, or getting rich. Then there's the option to play a character with a grandioise ambition, someone on a mission beyond just them; becoming a king/ruler, becoming a god, committing a mass execution on a certain race or monster. This can be played in any color of heroism of villainy you wanted. It's fantasy, and solo, so the world could play to whatever power fantasy in this last case you were after.

If none of this sounds appealing, well then, that tells me something anyway. If you like any of what you saw, let me know. I'll try to check back here, but you can always Rmail me if you want to just touch upon discussion too intricate for this thread. I'll leave it up to you, and try to follow bumps/progress here too. :)

Would you consider running a solo Godbound game? :)

In reply to Kammerer (msg # 4):

Consider, maybe. I don't know Godbound though, so it's unlikely.
