The Expanse (AGE)

Just looking to get in on an Expanse game and wondering if anyone has any plans/intention to run an Expanse game any time soon?

I like the setting and tone of the game & fancy giving it a shot.

The Expanse (AGE)

I would love to see someone run through some of the published adventures (core book, Abzu's Bounty, there are a few others). That way the burden isn't all on them but it should still be an interesting time.

In reply to mesneaky (msg # 3):

I should have mentioned, that was pretty much what I was thinking. The most successful games I've been in on here have started with a pre-made adventure then progressed from there once the group has sorted itself out.

Same. Have just regained an appreciation for The Expanse in general, and like what I see from the AGE version. :)

Re: The Expanse (AGE)

How much is there interest in the AGE system specifically, or more the Expanse setting and themes?

While I'm far from ready to run a game, I have been working on a Cortex Prime setup to emulate the tone of the show (ie gameplay focused around politics, human drama, action, mystery). I'm mostly playing around with it for fun at the moment, but don't know if or when it might be playable.

I cant speak for everyone who's posted here, but for me its more the setting than the system.

Re: The Expanse (AGE)

Same here, the setting.
System used could just as well be W.O.I.N. for example.

Re: The Expanse (AGE)

Ships Of The Expanse is allegedly due in early March, and I have the rest of the books in the game line. There are ten (10!) published adventures at the moment. The six from Abzu's Bounty can easily build off the one from the core book, while the other three (from the quickstart, the Game Master's Kit, and a standalone) are otherwise unconnected. The game defaults to a setting between the first two novels, but we aren't necessarily limited to that. We don't even need to hew too closely to canon, for what it's worth. If someone thinks it would be fun to play a Babylon 5-style telepath, there's plenty in Modern AGE to fill that out. Prefer to play the crew of Rocinante? File off the serial numbers, reskin all the characters, and rename the ship Cervantes? Or does something else entirely wax your tadpole? We can borrow from Modern AGE as well as all manner of gritty sci-fi.

By way of warning, I tend to set my default game ratings to Adult. Not for anything more explicit than vulgar language and those very occasional moments when players experience a measure of their characters' discomfiture, more to ensure that everyone at the table is of a suitable level of emotional maturity.

Re: The Expanse (AGE)

I have not even read any of the published adventures.
I have tried GMing SciFi and always had felt uncomfortable of sorts. Which is why I don't attempt it any more ^^.
I don't really expect or demand a full-fledged campaign. Just step by step, using the published stuff and see how it works out would be perfectly fine for me. Everyone seems to think "just one adventure?" and seems to forget how long this actually takes in a forum game.
The thoughts mentioned are all very interesting.
For me the interest lies in the setting, preferably before or just at the exodus through the Ring Gates. I like the conflict of three factions. I have not even read any book after Nemesis Games.
I don't have Modern Age, not sure about the impact of telepaths on the setting, no objections though.
I would not like to play the books as Rocinante Crew, though.

Re: The Expanse (AGE)

I would definitely be interested in the setting (as a player).  Am currently working my way through season 5 of the show.

I had a very limited approach for telepaths in mind, nothing like the ubiquitous presence seen in Babylon 5. Even so, the notion of an agency for the registration and monitoring of telepaths could be a fun addition to the setting... with rogue telepaths fleeing to Mars or the Belt to avoid being registered and whatnot. A PC telepath would be part of a very small number of people with developed psychic abilities.
