One Piece Game

Hello. This topic is an itch that I could never quite scratch, so I figured I'll try to find the answer here. I'm looking for someone willing to DM a game that has as setting the universe of One Piece. It could follow Oda's story very closely or not at all, as I only care for the setting and the general feel of it. The system could be any that you as a DM consider could be reasonably adapted to fit the premise (I've seen this concept done in 5e with some heavy homebrew to account for the different One Piece races, haki and devil fruits, so I know that can work).

Looking forward to any ideas you all may have about this.

I've been thinking for nearly a decade about what system could work best to capture the tone and mechanics. I've hacked dozens of systems.

These days, I firmly believe OVA 2e would work the best out of the box. It has named fighting moves with room for variation and evolution, it has characters with quirks, flaws, and melodramatic tension. Since December, I had been meaning to try something with my local group before quarantine happened. We only managed a test session featuring a single PvP fight in a generic superhero academy setting.

That said, I'm uncertain how well I could run a game in any sense following Oda's storyline. The protagonists absorb so much plot and faction attention, original characters wouldn't have much left to play with. I think you'd have to ignore Luffy and set a game forward or backward in time with an original crew in another small-scale sea, somehow still inspired by the romance dawn of the death of the Pirate King.

While I've GM'd for a lot of systems, I've never run a shonen game, so I'm still trying to hone my skills to produce a story that feels appropriately epic/dramatic/feel-good like One Piece arcs tend to be.

I'd be personally fine with having a completely different universe, that borrows it's elements from One Piece. The game could have none of the characters of the manga, as long as the factions (pirates, marines, world government, etc), major locations (the 4 seas and the grand line), haki and devil fruits are still a thing.

You can put me down as interested in playing. Never played OVA but I'm willing to learn. I'm not really picky on the system.

I'd be equally satisfied playing in the actual One Piece world or an alternate setting/time. As long as the game feels like One Piece I'll be happy. For me that means starting small and eventually building up to a pretty epic scope, intense fight scenes, and also having both serious moments and silly escapades. Devil fruit and haki should also exist. Though whether we have access to them at character creation I'd leave at GM discretion.

I'd love to play as well! One piece is a fun setting and even if it's an alternative setting that's similar I'm down for it!

I'm interested, though I stopped reading around the end of the Dressrosa arc. I like the setting though.
